Hôtel de la Forêt

Hotel Chetzeron and Hotel de l'Etrier both put a star rating in their own marketing copy: Chetzeron's site calls it "l'hôtel 4 étoiles," and Etrier's page title reads "Hotel de l'Etrier | 4-Star Hotel in Crans Montana." Hôtel de la Forêt never spells its rating out in a sentence anywhere on the site, but the mark is there anyway, sitting in the hotel's own page title: "Hotel de la Foret - Crans-Montana (Hôtel de la Fôret S.A) ***". A 3-star mark against 2 publicly stated 4-stars, in a resort where Hotel Royal and Guarda Golf & Residences don't publish a category at all. That's the only rating comparison these 5 sites actually support, and it's a fair place to start with a hotel whose own website spends far less on weddings than any of the other 4.

The wedding page itself is short enough to quote whole. The English version reads: "We propose you a large sunny terrace with a wonderful view on the Alps, a restaurant room, and thus a large dancing area near to our cosy bar. Our experienced team will make available its experience and its knowledge to assist you in the plan of this big day!" That is the entire pitch, machine-translated roughness included. The French original says the same 2 sentences: "Nous vous proposons une grande terrasse ensoleillée, avec vue sur la chaine des Alpes, une salle de restaurant, ainsi qu'un grand salon avec piste de danse, attenant au bar cosy. Toute notre équipe chevronnée, mettra à votre disposition son expérience et son savoir-faire, afin de vous assister dans l'organisation de ce grand jour!" Underneath sits a boxed self-summary the hotel labels "Hôtel de la Forêt en bref" (Hôtel de la Forêt in brief): 60 rooms, a large lounge, a 150-seat restaurant, a bar, a south-facing terrace, and a wellness area. No brochure link, no wedding photo gallery, no named contact beyond the hotel's one general phone number and email.

A room the wedding page never sizes

Every other venue on this list states a figure for its own event space. Hotel Royal publishes 107 square metres for its single events room. Hotel de l'Etrier's wedding brochure gives 200 square metres for the Salle Principale and 60 for the smaller, wood-panelled Salle Traditionnelle. Guarda Golf & Residences states wedding receptions for up to 130 guests and cocktail receptions for up to 200. Hôtel de la Forêt's wedding page gives none of that: the "grand salon" with its dance floor and the bar next door are named, never measured, and the page states no guest limit at all.

The only room the hotel does put a number on is built for something else. Its seminar page lists a meeting room of 120 square metres, arranged in 3 layouts seating 45, 25 or 100 people, plus the restaurant, offered for group menus "sur demande" (on request) at up to 150 covers. Whether a wedding reception actually happens in that same 120-square-metre room, or somewhere else in the building, isn't something the wedding page says, and nothing on the site links the two pages together. What is clear is that 150, the restaurant's own seating count, is the largest figure attached to any guest-facing space on the whole site, and it describes a dining room's general capacity, not a wedding's.

No coordinator, no brochure, no price

Hotel Royal names "our events coordinator." Hotel de l'Etrier's copy promises "the privilege of working with our interlocutor." Guarda Golf & Residences runs a reservations address, reservation@guardagolf.com, kept separate from its general events line specifically for its apartment product. Hôtel de la Forêt's wedding page names a team rather than a person or a role, "toute notre équipe chevronnée" (our whole experienced team), with the hotel's one general phone number and email, +41 (0)27 485 91 91 and info@delaforet.ch, as the only contact given on the page.

On price, the picture is less one-sided than the smaller-and-cheaper framing suggests. Only Hotel de l'Etrier actually publishes wedding numbers: CHF 120 to 180 a person for dinner, a CHF 2,000 minimum spend on its poolside Open Bar, a full cancellation schedule tied to the date. Hotel Royal, Hotel Chetzeron and Guarda Golf & Residences, like Hôtel de la Forêt, publish none of that, only a number to call for a quote. The fair comparison isn't that this hotel is cheaper than the other 4; it's that it withholds a price the same way 3 of them already do, while offering even less structure around that silence: no per-person packages to eventually ask about, no named catering options, no cancellation terms to negotiate against. A couple gets a phone number and a blank page at 4 of these 5 hotels.

60 rooms, and not the smallest room count on this list

The smaller half of the brief doesn't hold on room count. Hôtel de la Forêt's own summary box states 60 rooms, more than Hotel Chetzeron's 16 and more than the 41 bedrooms Guarda Golf & Residences includes in a full-hotel buyout. What's actually smaller is what each room comes with. Every room here, standard and family, south-facing, or superior, is described the same way: a flat-screen television, a direct phone line, a desk, a safe, and a bathroom with a bathtub, toilet and hairdryer. Standard and family rooms take a double bed or 2 twin beds, or 2 twin beds plus a third single bed for a triple; some connect to each other, and a cot is available for children. South rooms add a balcony facing the Alps and come in single, double or triple occupancy. Superior rooms add a glazed veranda across the room's full width and their own south-facing terrace, in double or single occupancy only.

None of the 3 categories comes with a published square-metre figure, unlike Hotel Royal, whose event page states an exact size for every one of its 6 room types, from a 25-square-metre Standard Room up to the 75-square-metre Suite Royale. Dogs are the one place Hôtel de la Forêt does attach a number to a room: CHF 15 a night, in every category, on a page that otherwise asks a couple to fill in every blank by phone.

A sauna and a fitness room, not a spa

The hotel's wellness page describes "fitness et sauna" in a single space, offered as "un espace détente de remise en forme" (a relaxation and fitness area), with no pool, no treatment menu and no price list. That is the plainest wellness offer of the 5 venues here. Guarda Golf & Residences' full-buyout package includes a pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and gym. Hotel de l'Etrier prices an actual bridal package through its Spa L'Alpage, a body scrub, a 60-minute facial, manicure and pedicure for CHF 440, plus bridal makeup with a trial for CHF 120. Hotel Chetzeron converted a former ski-hut chalet into a massage and relaxation space in 2016. Hotel Royal's own wedding page makes no wellness claim at all. Against that spread, Hôtel de la Forêt's sauna and fitness room is real, but it reads as a general hotel amenity, not anything built or priced around a wedding day.

What the site is actually specific about

Set weddings aside and the site gets more concrete. Breakfast is a buffet, included in the room rate. Wifi and parking are both free, the parking "selon disponibilité" (subject to availability). The hotel states it is open all year, in contrast to Hotel Royal, whose own pages say it runs only from June to September and from December to April, closed roughly 3 months a year. Hôtel de la Forêt's other identity, printed across its homepage before any wedding content appears, is as a specialised "Hôtel Bike-VTT," a hotel built around a mountain-biking clientele as much as any other kind of guest, a claim none of the other 4 venues on this list makes about itself. The homepage also states the hotel sits 500 metres from the funicular connecting down to the valley, a proximity detail about getting to and from the property that none of the wedding-specific pages mention.

The postal address is Route de la Combaz 19, Crans-Montana, and the hotel's own contact page flags a real navigation problem: it tells visitors to enter Randogne into a GPS instead of Crans-Montana, because the hotel sits administratively in that commune even though it belongs geographically to Crans-Montana. An English wedding page exists at its own URL, mariages_en.html, separate from the French one, which is more than some small hotels bother with, but it reads as a direct translation rather than copy written for an English-speaking couple, "Your wedding at the mountain!" among the phrasing. Nothing on the site claims English-speaking staff the way Hotel Royal's materials describe "multilingual staff," or the way Guarda Golf runs a full parallel English site down to its wedding enquiry form.

The legal part none of these 5 venues can offer

None of that changes the fact that applies to a wedding at any Crans-Montana hotel, this one included: Switzerland only recognises a marriage performed at a civil registry office, so whatever happens in Hôtel de la Forêt's grand salon or on its south terrace is the symbolic half of the day, never the legal one. For a couple where neither partner lives in Switzerland, the civil preparatory procedure, apostilled or legalised civil-status documents plus certified translations, is a separate process arranged with a registry office, and it commonly takes longer to complete than it would for a Swiss-resident couple. Hôtel de la Forêt's own site never mentions any of this, which puts it alongside Hotel Chetzeron and Guarda Golf & Residences on that point; only Hotel de l'Etrier's brochure names actual town halls and a specific chapel for the ceremony itself.

What's left is a genuinely plainer option than the other 4, not because it's provably cheaper (nobody but Hotel de l'Etrier proves that either way) but because it asks less of a couple's imagination and gives less back in return. There is no coordinator to picture, no brochure to leaf through, no named chef, no priced spa morning. There is a restaurant that seats 150, a lounge with a dance floor, a south-facing terrace, 60 plain rooms, and a phone number. A couple who wants a low-key reception inside a hotel that would run exactly the same way without a wedding on the calendar, one already organised around cyclists and hikers rather than banquets, might read that as an honest trade rather than a gap. A couple shopping the other 4 hotels for a managed, staffed, priced wedding experience will find comparatively little of that structure here.
