Blumen Ackermann

Blumen Ackermann is a florist in Bern whose shop, the Blumen Pavillon Ackermann, is inside Bern's main railway station. The company behind it is Blumen Ackermann AG at Bahnhofplatz 10A, and the site sells flowers online as well as over the counter. Its wedding floristry page describes a team of experienced wedding florists who provide flowers for the couple, the wedding party, special guests and the venue.

The site is in German. It does not mention English, but it does give an email address and an online contact form, which is how a couple outside Switzerland would start.

The wedding offer

The Hochzeitsfloristik page is a single paragraph. It says that among the many shades, textures, styles and designs, a couple will find the right bouquet for their big day, and that "Unser engagiertes Team von erfahrenen Hochzeitsfloristen" (our committed team of experienced wedding florists) will make sure the couple's vision comes through in every bouquet.

The page then names who gets flowers: the bride and groom, the bridesmaids and the ushers ("Platzanweiser"), special guests, and the decoration of the venue ("Veranstaltungsortdekorationen"). That covers the usual wedding list, from the bridal bouquet to flowers for the wedding party to the room itself, although the page does not break it down further or say what a typical order includes.

The same page shows two products with prices: 12 white roses with greenery at CHF 106.00, and 12 red roses with greenery at CHF 112.00. These are the only prices on the wedding page. They give a sense of the shop's price level for roses, but they are not a wedding package, and the page publishes no prices for bridal bouquets or venue decoration.

A shop in the station

The location is the main practical point. The contact page gives the address as "Blumen Pavillon Ackermann, Im Hauptbahnhof Bern", on the station's track level ("Bahngeschoss"). For couples and their families who are staying in Bern or arriving by train, a florist inside the station is easy to find and easy to drop in on between other appointments.

The opening hours are long. The footer on every page lists Monday to Friday 07.00 to 21.00, Saturday 07.00 to 20.00, and Sunday 09.00 to 20.00. The contact page lists the pavilion's hours slightly differently, with Saturday running from 07.00 to 21.00, so anyone planning a late Saturday visit should check. Either way, the shop is open every day of the week.

Delivery

The shop runs its own delivery service. The page on services says it delivers in Bern and the surrounding area with its own drivers, "zu günstigeren Lieferkonditionen je nach Gebiet", in other words on better delivery terms depending on the area. The site's own description adds that delivery is cheap around the city center. Specific delivery charges are not listed on these pages.

There is one firm rule, repeated in the header of every page: "SONNTAGS UND AN FEIERTAGEN KEINE LIEFERUNG", no deliveries on Sundays and public holidays. The shop is open on Sundays, so flowers can be collected, but not delivered. For a Saturday wedding this is unlikely to matter; for a Sunday wedding, or a wedding on or just after a public holiday, it is something to plan around, either with a Saturday delivery or by arranging collection from the station.

Paying and getting in touch

The site says customers can pay by any credit card through PayPal, which makes it easy to pay from abroad.

The phone number is 031 311 80 08 and the email address is info@blumenackermann.ch. The contact page has a form with fields for a name, an email address and a message. A shopping cart and customer account run through the site, so smaller orders can be placed online.

The site's menu shows its other categories: seasonal flowers, roses, arrangements and plants, and a picture gallery.

Using it for a wedding

Put together, the pages suggest two ways a couple might work with the shop. The first is a delivered order: the wedding florists prepare the bouquets and venue flowers and the shop's own drivers bring them to a venue in Bern or nearby, on any day except a Sunday or public holiday. The second is collection: the couple, a witness or a family member picks the flowers up at the pavilion in the station, which the long hours make possible early in the morning or late in the evening, Sundays included. The second option also suits guests who want to buy flowers for the couple on their way through the station. Either way, the first step is an email or the contact form with the date, the venue and the list of flowers needed.

What the site does not settle

The wedding page is brief, and a couple planning from abroad will have several questions it does not answer.

  • Prices. Apart from the two rose bouquets, there are no wedding prices: nothing for a bridal bouquet, boutonnieres or venue decoration.
  • Process. The site does not describe a consultation, a quote, a deposit or a lead time for wedding orders.
  • Setup. The page mentions venue decoration but does not say whether the team sets up at the venue and clears away afterwards.
  • Delivery area. Delivery covers Bern and the surrounding area; the exact limits and charges are not given on these pages.
  • Language. The site does not say whether the wedding florists work in English.

Who it suits

Blumen Ackermann suits couples marrying in or near Bern who value convenience: a shop in the main station, open seven days a week until the evening, with its own delivery service and card payment through PayPal. It is a practical choice for couples who arrive by train, for anyone who wants to pick up flowers on the morning of a Sunday event, and for smaller wedding orders such as a bouquet and flowers for the wedding party.

It suits less well couples who want a detailed wedding concept on paper before they get in touch, since the site says little about how wedding orders are planned. Couples with a Sunday or holiday wedding need to plan around the delivery rule, and couples marrying outside the Bern area should ask about delivery first.
