A family nursery and florist in Binningen

Blumen Senn AG, which also appears on its own site as Senn Blumen AG, is a nursery, florist and garden business in Binningen, in the canton of Basel-Landschaft. The about page says the family has loved and cared for this world "seit 1914" (since 1914), and it is now run in the fourth generation by Heiner Senn, a federally certified master gardener. The shop, with its own parking, sits beside the family nursery, and many of the cut flowers sold there come from that nursery.

For couples, the relevant parts are a wedding floristry service covering the bouquet, boutonnieres, car, tables and church, and a plant hire service that delivers, places and collects potted plants for a wedding.

A short history

The about page tells the story on a timeline. In 1914 Heinrich (IV) Senn and Susanne Schweighauser married and lived on Hauptstrasse in Binningen, growing vegetables in their garden that they sold in Basel every week. In 1918 Heinrich bought land at Paradiesstrasse 40, the foundation of the nursery that still exists today. A flower shop on Hauptstrasse was added in 1944, run by Amalia Senn and her sister Frieda Frey.

The third generation took over in 1982 and added a cut-flower operation on Leimgrubenweg. Heiner Senn joined in 1998 as a newly qualified master gardener after further training, and in 2005 the business became Senn Blumen AG with him in charge. The page adds that he trains apprentices and is vice president of the master gardeners' association of the two Basel cantons. Today, it says, 14 people work full or part time across the company's three operations. The page closes with the team's own summary: "Unsere Freude am Umgang mit Blumen versuchen wir in jedes Arrangement einzubinden", the pleasure of working with flowers is something they try to build into every arrangement.

Beyond floristry, the business offers garden design and maintenance, grave care, overwintering of potted plants in the nursery, and a business service with regular flowers for offices and practices. The office, run by Susan Häner, handles billing and staff matters and is reachable on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The wedding offer

The wedding page in the portfolio sets out six parts:

Bridal bouquet. Called the heart of every wedding and designed to match the dress, the bride's personality and the style of the celebration, "von klassisch-elegant bis romantisch-verspielt" (from classic and elegant to romantic and playful).

Boutonnieres. Small flower pins for the groom and the witnesses, which the page says symbolically link the couple with the people closest to them.

Car decoration. Flowers for the wedding car, which the page describes as a festive stage for the couple's first drive together.

Table decoration. Flowers, candles and colors to create the atmosphere of the celebration.

Church decoration. "Vom Eingang bis zum Altar" (from the entrance to the altar), floral decoration for the church where the couple say yes.

Other pieces. From baskets for the flower children to hair ornaments and individual decoration ideas.

The floristry overview page confirms the same range in one line: wedding floristry "vom Brautstrauss über die Tischdeko bis zum Autoschmuck", from the bridal bouquet through the table decoration to the car.

Flowers from the family nursery

The floristry page says the shop has a large range of cut flowers every day, "viele davon stammen direkt aus unserer eigenen Gärtnerei" (many of them straight from our own nursery), which lets it guarantee quality and freshness. The nursery page adds that the plants are grown seasonally and sustainably. For a wedding, that means the florist has part of its supply under its own roof rather than depending entirely on the wholesale market.

Hire plants for the day

One service is particularly useful for a wedding venue that needs more green. Under "Mietpflanzen" (hire plants), the offer page says: for a wedding, a birthday or a company party, the team creates accents with bamboo, oleander or olive trees, which it delivers, places and collects after the event. A couple who want to frame a terrace, an entrance or a marquee with large plants can rent them rather than buy them, with the logistics handled.

Delivery

The delivery page lists three zones, Basel-Landschaft, Basel-Stadt and Solothurn, each with its own flat delivery rate. Orders placed by 10.00 are delivered the same day; for short-notice deliveries, the page asks customers to call 061 421 31 24, and urgent deliveries can be sent through a courier service. The site also has an online shop for bouquets, arrangements, plants and cards.

Contact and hours

The phone number is +41 61 421 31 24 and the email address is 40@blumensenn.ch. Heiner Senn is listed with the same office number and a mobile number. Regular opening hours are Monday to Friday 08:00 to 12:00 and 13:30 to 18:30, and Saturday 08:00 to 16:00. The about page also lists special hours over Christmas and New Year, with the shop closed on 25 and 26 December and 1 and 2 January.

The site lists a long set of memberships, including JardinSuisse nationally and its section for the two Basel cantons, the master gardeners' association of both Basels, the Blumenring.ch network of florists and nurseries, and local business associations.

What the site does not settle

The site is in German and says nothing about English. It publishes no wedding prices, no lead time for wedding orders and no hire prices for the plants. It does not say whether the team sets up the church and table flowers on site, although it does so for hire plants. The delivery rates for each zone are not given in the page text.

Who it suits

Blumen Senn suits couples marrying in the Basel area who want an established, family-run florist with its own nursery behind it, and who would like the full floral program, from bouquet and boutonnieres to church, tables and car, from one place. The hire plants are a practical extra for garden, terrace and marquee weddings.

It suits less well couples who want published prices or packages, or who need English confirmed in advance. Couples marrying outside the three delivery zones should ask first.
