A plant boutique in Appenzell that also does wedding flowers

Florathek Mirjam Mock is a plant and floristry shop at Weissbadstrasse 102, 9050 Appenzell Steinegg. The homepage calls it "Die Fach-Boutique für Pflanzen", a specialist boutique for plants, and says it was founded in 2021 ("Die Florathek wurde 2021 gegründet"). It is primarily a plant business: indoor greening, planting for balconies, terraces and gardens, plant care, workshops and a small shop. Event floristry, including weddings, is one of its named services.

The homepage describes the shop as combining the art of floristry with the living world of plants, and it is candid about scale: the range of plants, floristry, pots and tools is varied and always changing, "aber kleine" (but small), and the shop section is headed "Klein aber fein" (small but fine). The site is written in the informal "Du" form and largely in Mirjam Mock's own first-person voice. The homepage states her aim plainly: to make it as easy as possible for anyone to create a personal garden, indoors or out, with expert advice and a good choice of flowers and plants, making the customer's world a little greener "mit einer Pflanze nach der anderen" (one plant at a time). It closes with the shop's slogan, "Mehr grün, mehr Leben" (more green, more life). That plant-first outlook is the lens through which she approaches event flowers as well.

Event floristry and weddings

The services page gives event floristry its own section. It lists the occasions: "Ob Geburtstag, Hochzeit, Firmenfeier, Jubiläum, Trauerfall oder einfach ein besonderer Tag" (whether a birthday, wedding, company party, anniversary, funeral or simply a special day). It says individually designed floristry frames each event, and describes the work in her words: "Ich kreiere stimmungsvolle Blumenarrangements, die Emotionen wecken, Räume verzaubern und perfekt auf den Anlass abgestimmt sind" (I create atmospheric flower arrangements that stir emotions, transform rooms and are perfectly matched to the occasion).

The section ends with the line most relevant to a couple: "Von der ersten Idee bis zum letzten Blütenblatt begleite ich Dich persönlich und mit viel Gespür für Ästhetik und Stimmung" (from the first idea to the last petal, I accompany you personally, with a strong feel for aesthetics and atmosphere). That is a promise of one person seeing the flowers through from concept to the day, rather than a team handing a job along.

The site does not list specific wedding pieces (bridal bouquet, boutonnieres, church or table flowers), does not show a wedding gallery and does not publish prices. Everything is agreed in conversation.

Consultations in person or online

For a couple planning from abroad, one detail on the services page stands out. In the plant care section, she writes that for individual questions she offers personal consultations "ob zu Hause, vor Ort in der Florathek oder digital" (at home, on site at the Florathek or digitally). The sentence sits under plant care rather than events, so a couple should confirm that a first wedding conversation can happen by video, but the option is on the site.

The rest of the business

The other services give a sense of how the shop works:

  • Innenraumbegrünung (indoor greening): choosing plants for homes and offices that suit the light, the lifestyle and the owner's taste.
  • Bepflanzung im Aussenbereich (outdoor planting): seasonal planting, long-term garden design and special plant arrangements for balconies, terraces and gardens.
  • Workshops & Beratung: workshops on plant care, choosing the right spot and creative design ideas.
  • Pflanzenpflege (plant care): advice on watering and feeding, a professional care service on site, and help with rescuing sick plants.
  • Collab-Partner & Freelancer: collaboration with designers, artists, event organizers and brands on events, pop-ups, set design, temporary installations and garden projects.

The collaboration line is useful for a couple working with a wedding planner or stylist. The site says she enjoys working as part of an interdisciplinary team, on set designs and temporary installations, and closes the section with "Let’s co-create!".

Opening hours and contact

The shop is open on Friday from 09.00 to 12.00 and on Saturday from 09.00 to 16.00, with further appointments by arrangement ("Weitere Termine nach Vereinbarung"). The services page carries a "Neueröffnung" (new opening) notice and a welcome from Mirjam Mock.

The contact details are:

  • Florathek Mirjam Mock, Weissbadstrasse 102, 9050 Appenzell Steinegg;
  • phone +41 (0) 78 870 00 53;
  • a contact page and an e-mail address on the florathek.ch domain.

With the shop open only two mornings and one afternoon a week, a couple should arrange any visit in advance.

What the site leaves open

The site is in German only, with a few English phrases ("let it grow", "Let’s co-create!"), and it does not say whether consultations can be held in English. It also does not publish:

  • prices or a minimum order for wedding flowers;
  • examples of past weddings;
  • whether she delivers and sets up at venues outside Appenzell, and at what cost;
  • how far ahead a wedding should be booked;
  • whether anyone else works with her on larger events.

The homepage uses "we" in places ("Mit unserem ausgezeichneten Fachwissen sind wir der richtige Ansprechspartner"), but the site names no one other than Mirjam Mock. The site also gives no directions by public transport and no parking information.

A first message should give the date, the venue, the ceremony and reception pieces wanted and a rough budget, and ask about language, a digital consultation and delivery to the venue.

Who it suits

Florathek suits a couple marrying in or around Appenzell who like the idea of a plant specialist designing their flowers, want one person to see the work through from the first idea to the last petal, and value the option of a digital consultation. Couples working with a planner or stylist may find her openness to collaboration useful.

It suits less well a couple who want a portfolio of past weddings and a price list before making contact, or a large installation that needs a team. The business is young and small by its own description, so capacity for a big wedding is something to raise in the first conversation.
