A nursery on Lake Zurich with its own florists

Gärtnerei van Oordt is a plant nursery and garden center at Chessibülstrasse 19, 8712 Stäfa, above Lake Zurich. Its homepage headline is "Pflanzen & Blumen erleben in Stäfa seit 1933" (experience plants and flowers in Stäfa since 1933), and it welcomes visitors to "unserem grünen Pflanzenparadies mit herrlichem Blick über den Zürichsee", its green plant paradise with a wonderful view over Lake Zurich, where customers are advised personally and creatively.

It is first of all a nursery and garden business: plants for balconies, tubs, borders and interiors, soil and plant care, garden and terrace design and maintenance. Floristry is its own department in the site's menu, with a page for weddings ("Hochzeit") and one for funeral flowers. The homepage links a feature titled "Vielseitige Floristik direkt aus der Gärtnerei" (varied floristry straight from the nursery), and another on "Nachhaltige Pflanzenproduktion" (sustainable plant production), the nursery's own growing.

What this means for wedding flowers

The homepage does not describe the wedding service in detail; that sits on the separate wedding page in the floristry section. What the homepage does establish is the setup behind it. The florists work inside a producing nursery, and the site ties its floristry to the nursery itself ("direkt aus der Gärtnerei"). For a couple, that means a florist with a garden center's range of plants and greenery on the doorstep, and the option of potted plants and greenery as well as cut flowers for a wedding.

The site gives no wedding prices, packages or examples on the homepage. A couple should read the wedding page and then ask for a consultation.

A greenhouse for hire and events on site

Two items in the events menu matter for a wedding beyond the flowers themselves. The first is "Gewächshausvermietung", greenhouse rental. The homepage does not describe it further, but a greenhouse at a nursery above the lake is an unusual space for a small celebration or an aperitif, and it is worth asking whether it can be booked for a wedding, for how many people and at what cost.

The second is the nursery's own program: an annual program and news page, events and courses, "Music Days" (the homepage promotes Musicdays 2026), and a "Kreativmarkt" (craft market), with the next one announced for Saturday 19 September. The homepage also invites visitors to its "exotisches Schmetterlingshaus" (exotic butterfly house). None of these is a wedding service, but they show a business used to hosting visitors, and they give guests arriving early something to see.

Shop, delivery and garden services

The online shop covers flowers and gifts (flower arrangements, bouquets, roses, cards, sweets, wine and prosecco, gift vouchers and funeral flowers), soil and substrates, and plant protection and care. The nursery section of the menu lists balcony plants, tub plants, perennials and shrubs, houseplants, pots and accessories, overwintering of plants and a delivery service, and the footer links to a delivery-costs page.

The garden and terrace section offers advice and planning, terrace design, terrace service, garden service, a planting system and terrace paving. For a couple marrying at a private house or garden on the lake, a garden business that can plan and plant a terrace as well as supply the flowers could be a useful single contact; that would need to be discussed directly.

The site also has an "Über uns" section with team, history and philosophy pages and job vacancies, and a "Gartenwelt" section with seasonal tips, a garden calendar, planting and care guides, videos and a blog. The current blog entry on the homepage is a short piece on the cranesbill (Reiherschnabel), written in the flower's own voice. The homepage's current tips cover improving garden soil, the right time for cutting back and planting, water gardens even in a tub on a terrace, raised beds and gardening ecologically, and a news item announces a sale of summer plants at 50% off. It is a working nursery with a seasonal rhythm, and the florists work within it: a couple should expect the choice of plants and flowers to follow the time of year, and can ask what the nursery itself will have in bloom or in leaf for their date.

Opening hours and contact

The nursery is open Monday to Friday from 08:30 to 18:30 and Saturday from 08:00 to 16:00. The site lists no Sunday hours. Contact is by phone at 044 926 18 78 or by e-mail at info@vanoordt.ch, and the address is Chessibülstrasse 19, 8712 Stäfa. The homepage has a newsletter sign-up and links to the nursery's Instagram channel.

The long weekday hours and Saturday opening make it easy to fit a visit into a trip. For a couple coming from abroad, a first visit could combine a look at the nursery with a floristry consultation, arranged in advance by phone or e-mail.

What the site leaves open

The site is in German only and says nothing about English. On the homepage it does not publish:

  • wedding prices, packages or examples;
  • whether the florists set up at the ceremony and reception venues, and how far they deliver for weddings;
  • how far ahead to book;
  • what the greenhouse rental includes, how many people it holds or what it costs;
  • how to reach Stäfa by public transport, or parking at the nursery.

A couple writing from abroad should give the date, the venue and the pieces wanted, ask about language, and ask separately about the greenhouse if they are looking for a space.

Who it suits

Gärtnerei van Oordt suits a couple marrying around Stäfa and Lake Zurich who want flowers from a long-established business that grows plants on site, value a nursery's range of greenery and potted plants alongside cut flowers, and might like a garden or terrace planted for the day as well. The greenhouse rental is worth a question for a small, informal celebration.

It suits less well a couple who want a specialist wedding studio with a detailed portfolio and price list on its homepage, or who need confirmation of English before making contact.
