A Chur family florist in its third generation
JOOS Floristik und Innenbegrünung is a florist and interior planting business in Chur, run by Toni and Romana Joos. Its wedding page is a long bridal gallery: dozens of bouquets, buttonholes, flower bracelets, hair wreaths, church and table decorations, each with a line or two of explanation. For a couple marrying in or around Chur who want a florist with a long local record and a wide range of styles, it is a strong candidate.
The history is set out on the "Über uns" page. Toni Joos's grandfather founded the business in 1918 on about 4000 square meters of land, binding simple carnation posies with asparagus fern in an old shed the family called the "Bindezimmer". From 1960 his son Anton Joos, a gardener trained at the Oeschberg horticultural school, worked in the business, and in 1969 Anton took it over with his wife Myrtha. When department stores brought cheap plants into town, the family turned to Luwasa hydroculture and, the page says, was the only business in the canton of Graubünden offering it. A double greenhouse followed in 1980.
Romana Joos joined as a florist in 1989; Toni Joos then trained as a florist too, and the page sums it up as "Zwei Floristen fanden sich" (two florists found each other). The third generation took over in 2003, and in 2006 a flower shop opened on the Masanserstrasse. The menu carries a page titled "100 Jahre Joos", and the family's own summary of its philosophy is "Die Nähe und Persönlichkeit zu unseren Kunden liegen uns sehr am Herzen" (closeness and a personal relationship with our customers matter a great deal to us).
Who does what
The team section is short and clear. Toni Joos, a trained florist, is responsible for interior planting in business and private premises and is often out on site for care visits and consultations; the page credits his ideas to the Joos atelier at Sonnenbergstrasse 6. Romana Joos has many years of experience as a florist, runs the shop on the Masanserstrasse and organizes floral workshops with her husband in the greenhouse workshop. The contact block gives Sonnenbergstrasse 6, 7000 Chur as the address.
What the wedding page shows
The bridal work is presented as a long run of examples, and the captions say more than most price lists would. A few from the page:
- Cool! For a civil wedding the florist had a free choice of flowers and colors ("freie Blumen- und Farbwahl"). The bride wore a fuchsia trouser suit, so the bouquet went fresh and cool, because the bouquet for the church ceremony was meant to be romantic.
- Juni-Braut, bound with roses, lisianthus, chamomile, white hydrangea and fine grasses.
- Brautstrauss mit Federborstengras, where the caption says the nicest thing for the team is feeling that customers trust them fully; here the florist had a free hand, within the color concept.
- Für die Berghochzeit, for a June wedding in the mountains, meant to look natural with daisies, chamomile, grasses and lady's mantle.
- Brautstrauss für das Standesamt, for a bride in a short pale blue dress, picked up in oxypetalum with agapanthus and a touch of alchemilla.
- Der Winterliche, built around the Christmas rose for winter brides, and Great Gatsby, a 1920s-style bouquet of carnations, small roses and asparagus fern with ostrich feathers and pearls.
The homepage adds an autumn bouquet in soft apricot with feather bristle grass, and the line "Wenn uns die Braut das volle Vertrauen schenkt, um ihren persönlichen Brautstrauss zu binden, ist das für uns das Schönste überhaupt" (when the bride trusts us fully to bind her personal bouquet, that is the most beautiful thing of all for us).
Beyond the bouquet, the page shows smaller bouquets for bridesmaids ("Brautjungfern"), a bouquet for the maid of honor, buttonholes for the groom and witnesses (fixed with magnets between lapel and flower, the page explains), floral bracelets, a flower necklace, hair wreaths for the bride and for flower children. One bracelet made only of baby's breath, the caption says, lasts a day without trouble.
Ceremony and reception decoration
The same page covers the rest of the day. There are wedding arches, including one made of birch wood dressed with light blue larkspur, hydrangeas and lisianthus; the caption says "Dieser Aufbau mit Birkenholz ist eine Anfertigung von uns" (this birch-wood structure is our own work). There are pew bouquets, birdcages filled with flowers, loops with asymmetric arrangements, small vases on birch slices for a mountain wedding, and table decoration in several styles. Named settings include the Martinskirche in Chur, table decoration at the Restaurant Guardaval in Lenzerheide, and a family party at Schloss Reichenau. A caption states plainly that outdoor ceremonies are decorated too: "Selbstverständlich dekorieren wir auch Zeremonien, die im Freien abgehalten werden."
On the process, the page says that for the wedding day the team takes enough time in the consultation to respond to the couple's wishes, and calls binding the bridal bouquet the florist's "Königsdisziplin", the top discipline of the trade.
Ordering, delivery and opening hours
Orders go by phone (081 353 27 02 or 078 635 93 91), by email to info@joos-chur.ch, or through the online shop, and the contact block adds that the team is happy to see customers in person. The homepage asks customers to order large bouquets in good time: "Sträusse "BIG" benötigen Zeit" (big bouquets need time).
Delivery covers Chur and the surrounding villages, "auch einmal etwas weiter weg" (sometimes further away too), and the delivery page invites customers to ask about the options, adding "Wir finden immer eine geeignete Lösung" (we always find a suitable solution). The page says the team can be reached by phone on weekdays.
Opening hours as published: closed Monday and Tuesday, Wednesday to Friday 9.00 to 12.00 and 14.00 to 18.00, Saturday 9.00 to 12.00.
What the site does not settle
The site publishes no wedding prices, no packages, no minimum order and no lead time for wedding flowers beyond the general request to pre-order large bouquets. It does not say how set-up and collection of hired items such as arches or birdcages are handled, how far the team will travel for a mountain wedding, or whether a deposit is taken. It is written in German only and states no other working language. A couple planning from abroad should ask early about English, about delivery to their venue, and about how many consultations the process involves.
Beyond weddings
The business also does funeral flowers, interior planting, workshops and events in the greenhouse (the events page mentions a birthday party among palms with outside catering, and a bouquet workshop in which Toni and Romana showed bouquets "vor laufender Kamera"). Toni Joos makes figures for house and garden in his workshop, acrobats balancing on chairs, ladders and benches, some of which stand in front of and inside the flower shop.
Who it suits
JOOS suits a couple marrying in Chur or elsewhere in Graubünden who want a local florist with a long family record and a broad bridal range, from a plain civil-ceremony posy to feathers and pearls, plus accessories such as bracelets, necklaces, hair wreaths and buttonholes. The mountain-wedding examples on the page will reassure couples planning an alpine celebration. The caveats are a German-only site, no published prices and a short opening week, so the first contact is best made by phone or email well before the wedding season.
