A family menswear store in Winterthur's old town

EMANIS Trend & Mass AG is a men's fashion and made-to-measure store at Obertor 38 in the old town of Winterthur. It sells trend and business wear for men, festive and wedding wear, made-to-measure clothing for men and women, and bridal shoes, and it runs its own alterations atelier. The team page lists five members of the Wegelin family, and the site signs off as "Ihre EMANIS-Family". Its slogan is "Inszeniere Dich!" (stage yourself).

The wedding page opens with the store's proudest line: "Wir wurden beim Swiss Wedding Award mit 15 Bändern und dem Publikumspreis ausgezeichnet" (we were awarded 15 ribbons and the audience prize at the Swiss Wedding Award). The homepage mentions that espresso and a comfortable seat for whoever comes along are included.

The wedding suits

The wedding page promises a surprising range of expressive festive wear and advice from professionals who understand the wish to make an impression. It then presents the collections the store carries:

  • TZIACCO by Wilvorst, which the page calls the "New Menswear der festlichen Bekleidung", built on exclusive fabric developments, innovative styling and extravagant models, with a focus on "ROYALE" models in a royal style.
  • Green Wedding by Wilvorst, under the tag #FAIRheiratet, which the page presents as the first sustainable wedding suit from a maker of festive menswear, in a boho look.
  • After Six by Wilvorst, a collection with the motto "Stil, Kompetenz und Individualität" (style, competence and individuality), pitched at weddings on the beach, in a hotel or in the city.
  • Atelier Torino vintage suits in a boho style, with new stretch qualities with a natural surface, linen themes, checks and a check suit, in greens, shades of blue, natural tones and silver, with pattern-mix accessories.
  • Prestige by Wilvorst, described as the finest wedding suit collection of the house, with fabrics from Italian weavers such as Cerruti, Vitale Barberis and Tallia di Delfino, from Super 150 wool to wool-silk and wool-mohair blends.
  • CG Your Own Party, a line from CG (Club of Gents) that reinterprets the classic wedding suit so that it can be worn on more than one occasion, with matching pocket square, suspenders and waistcoat.

The store also offers wedding suits made to measure ("individuell nach Mass"). A groom quoted on the page, Simon Hollenstein, says he received many compliments at his wedding on the cut and quality of his suit. Another customer review praises a good 7-piece wedding package on offer, though the site does not say what the package contains.

Made to measure and alterations

The about page explains the made-to-measure side. The store makes made-to-measure clothing "zu fairen Preisen" (at fair prices), whether a classic suit for business, a party or a wedding, well-fitting shirts, or an elegant suit for women. Customers choose from over 1500 fabrics and numerous cuts, with advice from the staff, and the stated goal is durable, high-quality favorite pieces in an optimal fit.

The in-house sewing atelier ("Nähatelier") adjusts newly chosen clothing to the customer's needs and also offers a professional alteration service for clothing bought earlier, whether or not it came from EMANIS. On request it makes accessories to the customer's ideas; the homepage mentions accessories made in the atelier on request, and the atelier page mentions an extravagant button as an example of a spontaneous idea the seamstress will take on. Alteration prices are charged by the work involved, with an inquiry button for details.

Beyond weddings, the menu covers made-to-measure, business and casual wear and accessories for men, and a sheath dress ("Etuikleid") and made-to-measure women's suits for women. The homepage describes the range as running from relaxed business casual through classic business clothing to made-to-measure and festive wear, which means the groom's father or the best men can be dressed in the same shop.

Timing

The wedding page's advice on timing is specific: visit 4 to 6 months ahead and the store can dress the groom without rushing. It adds, in so many words, "Zögern Sie nicht, wenn sie lieber ein spontaner Gast sind – denn auch für Sie finden wir etwas Passendes" (do not hesitate if you prefer to be a spontaneous guest, we will find something suitable for you too). The homepage urges booking in good time for the wedding outfit.

Bridal shoes

EMANIS also sells bridal shoes, as a partner of Elsa Coloured Shoes, which the page describes as a Europe-wide market leader in bridal accessories, and it offers the Rainbow and Fiarucci collections. Bridal shoes start at CHF 149, in shapes from high heels to comfortable bridal sneakers. A personal consultation takes 30 to 60 minutes, and the page advises coming 1 to 2 months before the date, though it keeps suitable shoes for spontaneous customers too. Satin shoes can be dyed: the bride brings a piece of fabric in the color she wants. A customer is quoted as saying "Ich schwebe zum Altar" (I float to the altar). For shoe appointments, the page says calling 052 222 91 19 is the most flexible route, with online booking of a one-hour slot as the alternative.

Opening hours and contact

The store is open Tuesday to Friday 09:00 to 13:15 and 14:00 to 18:30, and Saturday 09:00 to 16:00. Contact is +41 52 222 91 19 or kontakt@emanis.ch, and the team page gives individual email addresses for each family member.

What the site does not settle

The site publishes no prices for the wedding suits, the made-to-measure suits or the alterations; the only price on the pages is the CHF 149 starting point for bridal shoes. It does not say how many fittings a made-to-measure suit needs or how long production takes, beyond the general 4 to 6 month advice. The site is in German only and does not say whether the team advises in English, so a groom from abroad should ask when booking.

Who it suits

EMANIS suits a groom in or near Winterthur and Zurich who wants to choose between well-known ready-made wedding collections and a made-to-measure suit in one visit, and a couple who like the idea of the bride's shoes coming from the same shop. The in-house atelier is useful for a last adjustment close to the date. It suits less well a groom who needs published prices to budget, or one who cannot come to Winterthur for a fitting.
