Modehaus Goldener
Tap a star to rate
Modehaus Goldener is a fashion house at Zielstrasse 42 in Appenzell selling women's and men's fashion from a range of brands, with festive and wedding sections for both. Its groom's page, "Fest für Ihn", promises to find the groom his wedding suit "in nur 3 Schritten" (in just 3 steps), with the suit fitted to his body and sewn in the store's own atelier. The team page lists a long roster of consultants, and the site offers consultations outside normal opening hours.
The wedding suit in 3 steps
The page asks the groom to be won over by expert advice, a unique range of services and a large selection across many styles, and promises color-coordinated harmony for the day. The 3 steps are:
- Fachberatung (expert advice). "Farb-, Stil- und Typengerecht kleiden wir Sie von oben bis unten ein" (we dress you from top to toe, matched to your coloring, style and type).
- Masstermin (measuring appointment). "Ihr Lieblingsanzug wird auf Ihren Körper angepasst und im hauseigenen Atelier genäht" (your favorite suit is fitted to your body and sewn in our own atelier).
- Finale Anprobe (final fitting). Shortly before the wedding everything is tried on once more and steamed.
Below the steps, the page lists what the store offers the groom: competent expert advice, a large selection from head to toe, a suit made to measure ("Anzug auf Mass"), the in-house atelier, a cold Appenzeller beer and free parking. The beer is a local touch; one reviewer on the page, Ueli, calls "das Appezöller Bierli" the highlight of the visit.
The measuring step is worth reading closely. The page describes a chosen suit being fitted to the groom's body and sewn in the atelier, alongside the phrase "Anzug auf Mass". It does not say whether that means a suit cut from scratch or a model from the range adapted to his measurements, so a groom who cares about the difference should ask.
Reviews and styles
The page shows a 5/5 rating and 4 short reviews, written partly in Swiss German. Jasmin and Päddy thank the team for competent, humorous advice. Pirmin says he was often asked about his suit. Michelle and Marc write that the suit fitted perfectly and everything matched. The page also shows a gallery of festive styles, each with a style number and a button to book an appointment for it, and a separate "Brands" page presents the wedding brands the store carries.
The team
The team page opens with "Wir lieben Mode und die Menschen die Sie tragen" (we love fashion and the people who wear it) and says each staff member has their own character and advice style. It lists Melanie Dähler-Goldener (management), Christa Goldener (coach), Sandro De Pablo and Vivienne Fatzer (team leaders), fashion consultants Jolanda Nicoli, Pina Siracusa, Heidi Broger, Manuela Dörig-Stark, Manuela Brönnimann, Nicole Rempfler and Sonja Keller, and consultants in training Jana Stüdli, Gianna Valentinuzzi and Ivana Schmid. Individual profiles let a customer book with a particular consultant; Sonja Keller's names the Italian label Cinque among her favorite brands, which the store stocks for men and women. The wedding page shows the management, team leaders and several consultants as the wedding team.
The team page describes the choice of adviser as "die Qual der Wahl" (spoiled for choice) and promises to meet every fashion need "mit einer goldigen Zusatzrunde" (literally, with a golden extra round). The profiles are short and personal: Jana Stüdli, for example, lists Someday and Marc O'Polo among her favorite brands and describes herself as bringing good humor, while Sonja Keller says what she enjoys most is seeing customers feel confident in their outfit. For a groom who wants to pick his adviser in advance, the profiles are a quick way to do it.
The store also trains apprentices (an open apprenticeship is listed in the footer), which is consistent with the consultants in training on the team page.
Opening hours, booking and access
The store is open Monday to Friday 09.00 to 18.00 and Saturday 09.00 to 17.00, and the site states that consultations are also possible outside opening hours. Contact is +41 71 788 80 60, +41 79 589 26 22 or info@goldener.ch, and appointments can be booked online with the whole store or a named consultant. The footer links to a directions map, WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook and a 360-degree tour of the store, which is a useful way for a couple abroad to see the shop before traveling. The site also sells gift vouchers and lists partner stores.
Parking is free at the store, according to the wedding page. The site does not describe public transport beyond the directions link.
Planning from abroad
The 3-step structure maps well onto a groom who lives elsewhere. The advice and the measuring appointment can happen on one trip, and the final fitting is by design "kurz vor Ihrem schönsten Tag" (shortly before your big day), which fits a groom who arrives in Switzerland a few days before the wedding. What he needs to confirm is how much time the atelier needs between the two, so that the first trip is early enough.
What the site does not settle
The site publishes no prices for wedding suits or the atelier work. It does not state how long before the wedding the first appointment should be, how long the atelier needs, or how many fittings there are beyond the 3 steps. It is written in German only and does not say whether consultants advise in English. The women's festive section ("Fest für Sie") is not described on the groom's page, so a bride wanting to shop in the same store should ask what it covers for weddings.
Who it suits
Modehaus Goldener suits a groom in eastern Switzerland, or one marrying in the Appenzell region, who wants a clear, guided process with a large team, a fitting in the store's own atelier and a steam-and-check final fitting just before the day. Out-of-hours appointments help a groom who works full time or travels in for the fittings. It suits less well a groom who wants published prices, an English-language website, or a single trip: the process involves at least a measuring appointment and a final fitting in Appenzell.
