The Hochzeit (wedding) category alone lists 53 products, and every page on the site, from the product listings to the rental terms, is in German only. There is no hreflang tag, no /en/ URL and no language switcher anywhere on the domain, so a foreign couple reads, or translates, the same German copy as everyone else.

The suits are not made-to-measure in any strict sense. The FAQ says so directly: "Die Anzüge sind nicht direkt massgeschneidert" (the suits are not directly made-to-measure), though "jeder Mietanzug individuell auf die angegebenen Masse angepasst wird" (every rental suit is individually adjusted to the measurements given). The rental terms narrow that further, promising only that "das Nötigste" (the necessary minimum) gets adjusted. In practice this is a hire garment nudged toward your numbers, not a suit built or altered around you. Every suit is handmade by Collin Suiting, a separate Zurich atelier that also cuts the true made-to-measure version of the same designs; the FAQ says a customer who likes their rental can go and buy it properly made there instead. No cloth mill or clothing brand is named anywhere on the site. Fabrics are described only generically, mostly wool or a wool blend, with tweed reserved for the Peaky Blinders-styled pieces.

Browsing the wedding category turns up complete outfits from CHF 169 to CHF 309: three-piece suits in anthracite, navy, sage green or bordeaux sit at the lower end, with Barock-extravagant sets and tailcoats toward the top. Tuxedos are sold almost entirely as sets, and the FAQ specifies what that bundles: the jacket and trousers with the necessary adjustments, a shirt, cufflinks, studs, and a bow tie, cummerbund or braces, with matching patent shoes costing extra. Shirts rent separately at CHF 6.00 a day, leather shoes from CHF 6.25 a day, and the patent shoes needed for black tie or white tie cost CHF 7.25 a day, in EU sizes 41 to 47. On the ceiling, every page that mentions one agrees: orders are accepted up to 1 year in advance, so there is no real reason not to book as soon as a date and colour scheme are settled. Cancelling more than 10 days out is free and fully refunded, since the AGB reasons that anything closer has already been adjusted to a customer's own measurements; cancel later than that and there is no refund at all.

No fitting before it ships, and what happens if it's wrong

There is no try-on of the actual rental garment before it is sent. The FAQ states it plainly: "Für Mietwaren ist keine Anprobe vorab vorgesehen" (no advance fitting is arranged for rental goods), which is why getting your own measurements right matters more here than at a shop where a customer would try the jacket on first. Two routes exist: enter simplified numbers (height, weight, off-the-rack size) or exact measurements, guided by the site's own video, or pay Collin Suiting CHF 60 to take them professionally in person at their atelier on Kasernenstrasse 15 in Zurich, a session capped at 10 minutes and bookable only as an add-on to a rental. Which day that happens on is another place the site contradicts itself: the homepage says the atelier measures customers "jeden Mittwoch" (every Wednesday), while the FAQ says the same appointment "erfolgt dienstags oder donnerstags" (happens on Tuesdays or Thursdays). Either way, it is a measuring appointment rather than a fitting of the actual suit, and it only happens in Zurich; nothing on the site describes staff travelling to a hotel or venue.

If the suit still does not fit once it arrives, despite accurate measurements, Smartanzug says it will make adjustments if there is time, but only if the suit is brought to the Zurich atelier in person, or it will send a replacement. What that replacement costs depends on which page a customer reads: the rental terms and the general FAQ both quote CHF 13 for a wrong-size exchange, while a separate FAQ answer about a suit that does not fit quotes CHF 18 for the same situation. Worth confirming directly with customer service before assuming either number.

What the hire includes, what costs extra, and no deposit at all

The base rental fee covers the suit adjusted to submitted measurements, shipping with a prepaid return label, and professional cleaning once it comes back; the minimum hire period is 4 days, and any booking longer than 5 days earns an automatic 10% discount. Shipping is a flat CHF 18 by registered Swiss Post (A-Post Eingeschrieben), free on orders over CHF 109, and the terms describe it going out about 48 hours before the rental period starts, typically landing the day before. Nothing on the site says whether that Swiss Post service reaches an address outside Switzerland, which matters to a couple who would rather have the suit delivered straight to a hotel than to a Swiss address they control themselves; it is worth asking rather than assuming either way.

There is no deposit. Smartanzug states this outright, in nearly identical words on two separate pages: "Eine Kaution wird nicht verlangt. Instead, the customer carries the risk on the suit itself: without the optional flat CHF 29 insurance, which covers the whole rental period against damage, tears and stains, any damage or heavy soiling is billed afterward, and a return more than 30 days late counts as an outright purchase at a multiple of the daily rental rate, 23 times for suits and shirts, 18 times for shoes, 10 times for accessories, figures repeated identically across both the rental terms and the general terms. One clause elsewhere in that same document names a flat 20 times instead, an internal inconsistency worth flagging rather than resolving. Payment runs through Visa, Mastercard, Diners Club, PayPal or Twint; there is no crypto, Apple Pay or Google Pay yet.

The site's own About page explains the link: it was started by a man who writes under the initials K. Tu, whose wife Rita Tu owns Collin Suiting, the atelier that makes every Smartanzug suit. Their account puts the rental business at "über 10 Jahren" (more than 10 years) of trading, well before the current GmbH's 2024 registration, so the two dates describe different things, how long the idea has been running and when its current legal entity was formally set up. Either way, there is no sign of financial trouble or a wind-down: the shop, cart and checkout all work normally under a current 2026 copyright line.

For a couple who already know their measurements and are comfortable ordering in German, this is a straightforward, clearly priced way to dress a groom, a father or an entire line of best men without buying anything: the price sits on every product page rather than behind an enquiry form, there is no deposit to wire from abroad, and payment by international card or PayPal is built in. What it is not is a bespoke or fully made-to-measure service, and it is not a fitting service either: nobody tries the actual rental garment on before it turns up in the post, and the one paid, in-person measuring option only exists at an atelier in Zurich, on a day the site itself cannot quite agree on.
