Restaurant Burehuus is a Swiss restaurant at Frutigenstrasse 44 in Thun that hosts weddings, christenings, birthdays, confirmations and company events in its own rooms and garden. Its event page puts the key facts up front: 5 minutes from Thun station, enough free parking, celebrations of 10 to 50 people, and closed parties of up to 80 on request. The footer states that it is run by Hauenstein Hotels.
The rooms
The event page describes three spaces for a celebration, plus a wine cellar for an apéro.
The Stübli (up to 25 people) sits slightly raised and partly separated from the restaurant. Flexible walls let the team size the room to the group, and the page suggests it for confirmations, christenings and birthdays. For a wedding it is the room for a small dinner.
The Heubühni (up to 50 people) is in the attic of the restaurant, a former hayloft. The page says "Das 200-jährige Gebälk lässt den Raum erstrahlen" (the 200-year-old beams make the room shine) and that the history can almost be felt. It can be used entirely privately for a party or a seminar, which is the key point for a wedding: this is the room where a mid-sized wedding has the space to itself rather than sharing with restaurant diners.
The garden and terrace (up to 120 people) are available in the warm months. The page mentions them specifically as an outdoor wedding location. The terrace is directly behind the house, surrounded by fruit trees and a fountain, and described as calm and relaxed.
The wine cellar (up to 10 people) is suggested for a private apéro. The wine list is described as small but good, mainly regional and Swiss wines with a few from other European wine countries, and it is linked as a PDF from the menu page.
Food and the planning approach
The event page's motto is "Bei uns gibt es keine Events «ab Stange» bei uns gibt es nur «Massanzüge»" (no off-the-peg events here, only made-to-measure ones). Every event is planned individually, and the team puts together a menu based on what the couple and their guests like. The page adds that the experienced kitchen team will also prepare alternatives, for example gluten-free or lactose-free dishes. The restaurant's own menu flags which dishes are available gluten-free or lactose-free and asks guests to announce allergies or intolerances in advance.
The regular menu gives a good idea of the cooking. It is classic Swiss: the house Cordon bleu "Z'Original" with Gruyère and farmhouse ham, calf's liver with rösti, veal in a mushroom cream sauce, a beef entrecôte, venison in season, pike-perch in beer batter, and a vegetarian and vegan section with a vegetable plate, an autumn plate and a seasonal veggie burger. Ice cream and sorbet come from a Thun manufacturer, Glacenheit. The menu page also notes a children's menu, which helps at a wedding with young guests, and marks the few items that do not meet the Fait Maison (homemade) criteria. On Saturday and Sunday afternoons the kitchen stays open with a smaller menu, and from Wednesday to Friday there is a lunch menu. The restaurant also serves a Sunday brunch, the "Burehuus Zmorge", from 09:00 to 12:00.
The event page links seasonal banquet documentation for spring, summer, autumn and winter, and offers a form to request a quote. Those documents are separate files, so the event menu prices themselves are not on the page.
The people
The hosts page names Dominik Bieri as managing director and Frank Noordhoek as head chef, who run the restaurant together. It also introduces Moritz, the house cat, who likes to wind between guests' legs or take a sunny spot on the garden bench.
Hauenstein Hotels, according to the jobs page, is a family-run hotel group on Lake Thun with three hotels in the 4 to 5-star range, accommodation in rural settings, and six restaurants in the region, with 220 hotel rooms, suites, apartments and lake villas in all. The Burehuus pages do not name those hotels or say whether wedding guests get a room rate there.
Getting there and language
The event page says the restaurant is 5 minutes from Thun station, without saying whether that is on foot or by car, and that there is enough free parking. For guests arriving by train, a venue this close to the station saves arranging a shuttle. The address, Frutigenstrasse 44, 3600 Thun, and phone +41 33 224 08 08 are on every page, along with info@burehuus.ch.
The site has language switches for German, English and French. The pages themselves do not say which languages the event team uses, so a couple from abroad can reasonably start in English and see how the reply comes back. The site's menu also links a photo gallery, a page on the rooms, and pages on the house's history and philosophy, which are the quickest way for a couple abroad to see the Heubühni and the garden before visiting in person. The restaurant sells gift vouchers too, a practical present for guests who want to give the couple a meal out after the wedding.
What the site does not settle
The site publishes no event prices, room hire fees or minimum spends, only the regular restaurant menu. It says nothing about a ceremony: no civil or celebrant-led ceremony is offered on the event page, so the Burehuus is a place for the meal and the party rather than the wedding itself. It gives no end time and no rules on music or dancing, which matter in a restaurant with neighbors and a public dining room. It does not say whether the garden can be booked exclusively or whether the restaurant stays open to other diners on a wedding day, beyond the Heubühni being usable privately. It offers no rooms on site.
Who it suits
The Burehuus suits a couple planning a relaxed, traditional Swiss meal for 10 to 50 guests, or a summer garden party of up to 120, in a town that guests can reach by train. The Heubühni with its old beams is the most characterful room for a wedding dinner; the garden is the choice for a warm day. The caveats are the lack of published event prices, the absence of any ceremony offer, and the need to book guest rooms elsewhere in Thun.
