Hotel Porto Sofie

Tap a star to rate

Hotel Porto Sofie is a hotel, brasserie, bar and café at Am Schlosspark 9 in Gottlieben, set on the Seerhein by the boat landing, and it offers weddings in two sizes: a wedding meal for a small party, or the whole hotel booked exclusively for the ceremony, dinner, dancing and the night. It suits couples who want a waterside celebration where the guests can stay in the same building and wake up to a wedding breakfast.

Option one: a wedding meal in a small circle

The first offer is for couples whose ceremony takes place somewhere else. The page says the hotel warmly welcomes "kleine Hochzeitsgesellschaften" (small wedding parties) to a stylish lunch or dinner "direkt am Seerhein" (right on the Seerhein), personal, relaxed and in a special atmosphere. It is meant for a shared wedding meal without a ceremony or a party afterwards in the hotel, and neither an overnight stay nor exclusive hire is required.

The process is described as two "dates": a first meeting to get to know each other and plan the meal, and then the wedding day itself. The hotel says it shapes the food around the day, whether after the civil ceremony, as a lunch together or as a festive dinner, with menus for small and larger wedding parties agreed individually. The page links to its apéro, set menus, tavolata, flying dinner and barbecue offers.

Option two: the whole hotel for the wedding

Couples who want to finish the day with a party and dancing can book Porto Sofie exclusively for their wedding party. The page ends with the line that the whole hotel is then available "euch und euren Hochzeitsgästen exklusiv" (exclusively to you and your wedding guests), and describes a celebration "ohne weitere Hotel- oder Restaurantgäste" (without other hotel or restaurant guests).

Food. The exclusive package lists an Apéro Riche with classic canapés, a wedding dinner as a 10-course flying dinner or a barbecue, and a "Mitternachtstischli" (midnight snack table) with further treats.

Included in the price, according to the page, as part of the Porto Sofie standard: setting up and clearing tables, standing tables and chairs; laying tablecloths, cloth napkins and chair covers; decoration with gold placemats and gold table lamps; and designing the menu and drinks cards.

The ceremony. The page promises personal advice, smooth organization and professional support for the wedding. For the ceremony, "die öffentlichen Räumlichkeiten des Hotels" (the public rooms of the hotel) are available, and the ceremony can take place directly on the lake promenade, with festive seating, chair covers and a stylish separation of the area.

Party. The celebration moves from an apéro on the promenade to drinks at the bar, with an "Eigener Barkeeper für Cocktails und Drinks" (a dedicated bartender for cocktails and drinks) and a signature wedding drink created for the couple, and then to dancing "im Saal mit Blick auf den Seerhein" (in the hall with a view of the Seerhein). The page also mentions a sundown on the Seerhein.

Children. A separate children's room has toys, drawing things and a projector with a screen for children's shows, and there is a playground nearby. The page notes that looking after the children remains the guests' responsibility.

Overnight. With exclusive hire, the page lists an overnight stay in the hotel including a wedding breakfast from 08.00 to 11.00 for all wedding guests.

Good to know

The page has a practical section that answers several questions couples from abroad usually have to ask:

  • Check-in. The wedding suite is available from 12.00 on the wedding day; guests can check in at 15.00, and luggage can be stored for early arrivals. Check-out is after the wedding breakfast at 11.00.
  • Cots. Baby cots cost CHF 25 per night.
  • Pets. Well-behaved dogs and pets are welcome at CHF 20.00 per night and pet, without food; any damage must be paid on site. Dogs are also allowed in the café, bar and brasserie.
  • Cake. The hotel charges nothing extra for storing and presenting the cake, the plate fee, or serving and cutting it.
  • Diets. The hotel says it gladly takes vegetarians and guests with allergies into account when choosing the menu, and asks couples to list the allergies in the detailed planning.
  • Parking. Public parking is directly in front of the hotel and across Gottlieben, especially at the village entrance. The spaces are blue-marked and paid, and a 24h ticket costs CHF 8.00 at reception. There is a paid charging station for electric cars for hotel guests.
  • Boats. The hotel sits directly at the boat landing, and the page suggests adding a boat trip before, during or after the wedding.
  • Smoking. Only outdoors; the whole hotel is non-smoking.

The page also lists partner services under "Mit- & Für euch": lettering and stationery, a photo box, a photographer and videographer, a singer, the wedding dress and hairdressing. It gives no names or prices for them.

Rooms

The site's room list runs from a Singlezimmer Mini and small and basic double rooms to Seezimmer Basic, Seezimmer Deluxe and Seezimmer Family (lake-view rooms), a Junior Suite and a Suite. The wedding page does not say how many rooms there are, so couples planning an exclusive booking should ask how many guests the hotel can sleep.

What the site does not settle

The wedding page publishes no prices for the meal, the packages or exclusive hire, and no guest capacities for the hall, the promenade or the small-party dinner. It does not say what happens to a promenade ceremony if the weather turns, or when the party must end. Public transport is not covered on the wedding page, although the site has a separate travel page. The site is in German and does not say whether the team works in English.

Inquiries go through the form on the page, where couples choose the services they are interested in and receive a quote, or by phone on 071 544 66 00.

Who it suits

Hotel Porto Sofie suits couples who want the wedding party and the guests' night in one waterside hotel, with a ceremony on the promenade, a flying dinner and dancing with a view of the Seerhein, and it is equally a good fit for a small wedding lunch or dinner after a ceremony elsewhere. It suits less well a couple who wants a secluded countryside estate, a large seated banquet with published capacities, or prices before the first contact.
