An old Kurhaus in Davos Monstein
Hotel Ducan is a small hotel in Davos Monstein, postcode 7278, in Graubünden. Its rooms page tells the story in two sentences: the house was built in 1896 as the Kurhaus Monstein, a spa guesthouse, and has been renovated again and again over nearly 130 years, most recently in a major renovation finished in 2008. The wedding page, titled "Ihre Feier in den Bergen" (your celebration in the mountains), offers the whole hotel or just a part of it for a wedding, a birthday or a party.
For a couple from abroad, the attraction is scale. Hotel Ducan is big enough to hold a wedding dinner for 90 and sleep about 70 guests, and small enough to take over entirely, in a mountain village with its own churches and its own brewery.
The wedding offer
The page lists the spaces and their capacities plainly:
- 20 rooms and 4 apartments for a total of about 70 overnight guests
- the terrace for up to 120 people for the aperitif
- the Arvenstube, a pine-paneled dining room, for 60 to 90 people at the wedding dinner
- music or a band in the Arvenstube, and a DJ and party with a dance floor in the lobby
- the «Munggaloch» as a further room for activities
The rooms page describes the Munggaloch as a cozy candle-lit cellar used for private events or small seminars, and the terrace as a large garden terrace in the mountains.
The conditions are just as direct. The whole hotel can be rented "zum attraktiven Preis" (at an attractive price), individual rooms are available at a special rate, and a couple can hold only the aperitif at the hotel or the entire celebration. The menu and the aperitif come in variations "je nach Budget, klassisch oder ausgefallen" (depending on budget, classic or unusual). The team offers advice on the aperitif, the menu, the styling of the ceremony location and other activities in the program. A flyer is linked from the page.
Ceremonies in Monstein
This is the section that sets Hotel Ducan apart. It lists three cooperations in the village. A church wedding can take place in the «neuen» (new) church of Monstein, and the hotel will put the couple in touch with the local pastors. A private ceremony can be held in the «alten Kirche» (old church), with a celebrant of the couple's choosing, and the hotel organizes it. And the Brauerei Monstein, the village brewery, can host an aperitif or a visit.
The page does not mention a civil ceremony with a registrar; a couple who need a legally binding marriage should ask how that fits with the church options.
Rooms for the guests
The house has 52 beds, and with the holiday apartments the hotel can take groups of up to 70. The 2008 renovation created 12 three-star rooms on the first and second floors: 6 Standard double rooms, 2 Superior double rooms with a balcony and 4 Superior family rooms. The Standard rooms measure 12 to 15 m², have a shower, toilet and TV, and two of them have a balcony with a mountain view. The Superior rooms measure 15 to 20 m², with SAMINA beds and a choice of pillows. The family rooms have a bunk bed or a separate sleeping corner, suit 2 to 4 people, and 5 on request.
The third floor holds the simpler budget rooms: single rooms of about 6 m² and double rooms of about 10 to 14 m², each with a washbasin, and shared showers and toilets on the floor. In the basement there are 2 group rooms with 6 beds each, shared bathrooms and only a cellar window, with bedding and towels provided. That mix is useful for a wedding: family and older guests in the renovated rooms, friends on a budget upstairs or in the group rooms. All rooms are non-smoking with free Wi-Fi.
Prices include a breakfast buffet of local and regional products and a local bus ticket; the resort tax of CHF 5.90 per person per day is extra. Check-in is at 15.00 and check-out at 10.30, with late check-out at CHF 10.00 per hour and room on request. Parking on site costs CHF 5 per night, and small campers or buses can park for CHF 35 per night including use of the shower, toilet and sauna. The hotel also has a ski and bike room and the Saunahüüschi, a log cabin with a sauna, a rest room and a wooden fountain for cooling off outdoors.
Seasons and cancellation
The rooms page gives the summer season 2026 as 22 May to 15 November 2026. It also publishes cancellation terms for rooms. In summer, canceling 0 to 2 days before arrival costs 100% of the booked stay and 2 to 7 days before costs 50%. In winter the scale is stricter: 100% within 2 days, 75% from 2 to 7 days, 50% from 7 to 14 days and 25% from 14 to 30 days. A no-show is charged in full. These are the room terms; the page does not say whether a wedding booking follows them.
Contact and language
The hotel is reached on +41 81 401 11 13 or by email through the site's contact page. The site has a German and an English version and an online booking system. The wedding page itself is in German and does not say whether the team plans in English.
What the site does not say
There are no wedding prices, no menus and no minimum spend. The page does not give driving directions, public transport connections or distances from Davos or from an airport, so guests flying in should ask how to reach Monstein. It does not say whether the terrace is covered, what happens to the aperitif in bad weather, how late the party may run, or whether outside caterers are allowed.
Who it suits
Hotel Ducan suits a couple who want to take over a small historic mountain hotel for a wedding of up to 90 guests, with most of them sleeping in the house, a church or private ceremony in the village, and a relaxed party with a band and a dance floor. The mix of comfortable and budget rooms keeps it affordable for a large group of friends.
It suits less well a couple after luxury or a large ballroom, and guests who need every room to have its own bathroom will have to be booked into the renovated floors first.
