A big-town hotel in Davos Platz

Hotel Grischa, which calls itself "Grischa – DAS Hotel Davos", stands at Talstrasse 3 in Davos Platz, in Graubünden. Its celebrations page opens with a line in Graubünden dialect, «Für di nur z Beschta.» (only the best for you), and places the hotel in context: Davos is known far beyond the canton as a tourist destination and as a host of international congresses and events, and the Grischa sits "Mitten im Geschehen" (right in the middle of things). It hosts conferences, seminars, weddings, birthdays and private parties, and says modern infrastructure, personal care and culinary variety make each one special.

For a couple planning from abroad, the Grischa is the opposite of a remote mountain hut. It is a town hotel with rooms and suites, many restaurants under one roof, and a catering team that can also cook for a wedding held somewhere else in Davos.

The wedding offer

The wedding section is a single paragraph, in German, and it makes two promises. The first: "Ob kleine Feier oder grosses Fest – gemeinsam schaffen wir den passenden Rahmen für euren schönsten Tag" (whether a small celebration or a big party, together we create the right setting for your most beautiful day). The second: "Von der stilvollen Location über das festliche Menü bis zur persönlichen Begleitung unterstützen wir euch bei der Planung eurer Hochzeit" (from a stylish location to a festive menu to personal support, we help you plan your wedding). A button labeled "Ja ich will" (yes, I do) leads to the wedding enquiry.

That is all the page commits to in writing. It names no function rooms, gives no capacities and publishes no wedding menu, so everything about size and layout comes from the events team. A separate section, "Feste feiern", covers other parties, and asks the reader simply when they plan to celebrate.

The restaurants

Where the Grischa stands out is food. The site lists its outlets in the main menu: Apollo, Bräma, Golden Dragon, Jody’s Restaurant & Bar, Pulsa Restaurant, the Pulsa Fonduestube, Pulsa Bar & Lounge, Private Dining Schiahorn, a take-away, and the Zino Platinum Cigar Lounge. The catering page puts it plainly: "Cuisine is king at the Hotel Grischa in Davos."

For a wedding that range opens options the page does not spell out but a couple can ask about: a private dinner in the Private Dining Schiahorn, a fondue evening for guests arriving the day before, drinks in the bar and lounge after the meal, or a cigar lounge for the late hours. Which of these can be reserved for a wedding party, and for how many, is a question for the events team.

The German celebrations page explains why the hotel offers catering at all: it does not want to keep its large choice of food from anyone, so it runs an extensive catering service. The site also has a section called Gastro-Erlebnisse (food experiences) and sells a Brunch Box for guests to take home. For a wedding weekend, a brunch the morning after is an easy thing to ask about.

Catering away from the hotel

The catering page is published in English. It says the hotel's "highly experienced kitchen team delights in providing professional catering services" and will supply guests "throughout Davos and the surrounding area" with dishes from its kitchen. It addresses exactly the couple who has found their own spot: "Are you planning an event at home or in a beautiful natural spot outdoors?" The hotel will provide catering tailored to the event, and adds, "Nothing is impossible. Discuss with us your ideas and requirements, and allow us to prepare you a bespoke catering quotation."

The same page offers decoration and floral arrangements on request, "to give your celebration an extra special backdrop". So the Grischa can handle food, flowers and decoration together, whether the wedding is at the hotel or at a chalet or a meadow in the valley.

Staying at the Grischa

The hotel has rooms and suites, offers and packages, activities, a relaxation section and pages on sustainability and on the hotel itself. The pages here do not give a room count, room sizes or rates for a group, so a couple should ask how many rooms can be held for wedding guests and on what terms. One package on the catering page, a midweek offer for mountain bikers called Zeitlupe, starts at CHF 290 per person in a double room, which gives a first idea of the hotel's price level, though it is not a wedding rate.

Contact and language

Wedding and event enquiries go to events@hotelgrischa.ch or +41 81 414 97 66. The hotel's general line is +41 81 414 97 97 and info@hotelgrischa.ch. The footer also links to guest ratings, gift vouchers, an e-paper for guests, a media page and a newsletter, and to a page about Davos itself. The celebrations page is in German and uses the informal "euch" and "du" throughout; the catering page is in English, and the site has a language switch. Neither page says whether the events team plans weddings in English.

What the pages do not say

The pages publish no wedding prices, no capacities and no named function rooms. They do not say whether a ceremony can be held at the hotel, civil or symbolic, or whether a terrace or garden exists for an aperitif. They give no end time, no policy on outside suppliers such as a band or a photographer, and nothing about how guests should travel to Davos or whether the hotel has parking. All of this has to be asked.

Who it suits

Hotel Grischa suits a couple who want a practical base in the center of Davos: rooms for guests, a choice of restaurants and bars for the days around the wedding, and one team that can plan the menu, the decoration and the flowers. It also suits a couple marrying elsewhere in the valley who need a caterer that can bring the hotel's kitchen to them.

It suits less well a couple after a small, historic or remote venue, or anyone who wants capacities and prices on paper before the first call.
