Chalet Pilatus

Tap a star to rate

Chalet Pilatus is an event venue in Neuenkirch, in the canton of Lucerne, set in the middle of a small farm and run by Peter Vogel. It rents out a single hall for 120 people with a covered balcony and a terrace facing the Alpine panorama and Pilatus, the mountain the site calls its "Hausberg" (home mountain). Weddings head the list of occasions on its homepage, ahead of company events, birthdays, seminars and training days.

It also publishes its prices, so a couple can work out the room cost before sending a single email, which is useful for anyone planning from abroad.

Setting and Access

The homepage describes the location as quiet and away from road traffic, about one kilometer from the Neuenkirch Post bus stop. The access road is 3 meters wide with little through traffic, and the site notes that children can play outside safely as a result. It also asks that the road always be kept clear, which matters on a wedding day when guests arrive in several cars. There is plenty of parking, according to the homepage.

The site has a directions page (Wegbeschreibung), but the homepage and hall page do not say how long the journey takes from Lucerne or from an airport. The bus stop is the one public transport point the site names, so guests without a car should plan the last kilometer: a shuttle, taxis, or a walk. It is worth asking Peter Vogel whether he can recommend a local transport option.

The Hall and Outdoor Spaces

The Eventlokal page gives exact numbers. The hall holds 120 people and covers 150 m², measuring 15 m long and 10 m wide. It comes with 20 tables of 80 x 180 cm and 120 chairs, plus 4 banquet tables of 76 x 183 cm for a buffet or a gift table.

Inside, there is a women's toilet, a men's toilet and an accessible toilet, a cloakroom and a kitchen. The site says the rooms are wheelchair accessible throughout, which is a real advantage for older relatives flying in.

Outside, a covered balcony gives shelter in changeable weather, and a large open terrace with a fine view is described as "ideal für den Apéro" (ideal for the apéro) or as a meeting point during the event. Outdoor tables, standing bar tables and chairs are provided, and the terrace can be arranged freely.

It is one hall with its outdoor areas, not a complex with several rooms. That keeps a wedding together in one space, but it also means the ceremony, dinner and dancing all happen in or around the same room unless the ceremony is held elsewhere.

Prices and Rental Terms

The Unser Angebot page sets out the terms:

  • Up to 80 people: CHF 650 per day plus a CHF 200 rental deposit.
  • 81 to 120 people: CHF 800 per day plus the same CHF 200 deposit.
  • A rental day runs from 9.00 in the morning until 8.00 the next morning, when the premises must be handed back cleaned.
  • Each extra day needed for setting up or clearing away costs CHF 200.

The price includes use of the furniture, dishes, kitchen and hand towels, dishwashing liquid, toilet paper, heating, ventilation, water, electricity and WiFi. The general terms and conditions (AGB) form part of the offer and are linked from the price page. Couples should read them for cancellation terms, since the price page does not describe those.

The handover rule is worth noting: the hall must be returned "in gereinigtem Zustand" (in a cleaned state) by 8.00. Couples should ask whether cleaning can be booked as a service or whether it falls to them or their caterer.

Catering

The homepage presents S'Rote Töpfi under the heading "Unser Catering" (our catering), and the site has a separate page for it, as well as a page about the kitchen (Die Küche). The homepage and price page do not give S'Rote Töpfi's menus, per-person prices or drinks packages, and they do not say whether an outside caterer may use the chalet's kitchen instead. Those are the first questions to ask, along with vegetarian and allergy options, corkage for the couple's own wine, and who serves on the night.

Sustainability

The site takes pride in its running of the building. Hot water comes from solar panels, rainwater is used to flush the toilets, and heating is by a modern wood-chip boiler with a ventilation system that recovers heat. Electricity is produced on the barn roof opposite, and the whole building is insulated with Isofloc, made from recycled newspaper. In winter, the homepage says, strong heating and modern ventilation keep the room comfortable.

What a Couple From Abroad Should Ask

The site is in German only. It does not say whether Peter Vogel corresponds in English, so a first message in English will answer that question quickly.

The site does not mention a ceremony on the premises, a registrar, or which church or registry office is nearby. It says nothing about how late music can play or whether there are noise limits, even though the rental runs overnight. It offers no overnight rooms for guests and does not name hotels nearby. It publishes no plan B beyond the covered balcony if the weather turns during an outdoor apéro.

Viewings are by appointment, from Monday to Thursday from 19.15. That evening slot suits locals after work; couples visiting from abroad should ask early whether another time is possible during their trip.

Who It Suits

Chalet Pilatus suits a couple who want a relaxed countryside wedding for up to 120 guests, a clear room price and a terrace with a mountain view, and who are happy to organize much of the day themselves. The published rates make it one of the easier venues to budget for.

It suits less well a couple wanting a hotel with rooms upstairs, an on-site ceremony team, or everything handled by one planner. Guests arriving by public transport face the last kilometer from the bus stop, and the German-only site means some back-and-forth by email before everything is clear.
