A Family Venue at the Edge of the Forest
Heuboden is an event venue in Holzhäusern, with the postal address Heuboden 1, 6343 Rotkreuz, set right at the edge of a forest. The homepage says it was founded in 1972 by the forebears of the Werder family, who still sign the site. It hosts weddings, company events, conferences, cultural evenings and Christmas dinners, and it runs its own catering, accommodation and an online shop selling grills, wood pellets, ceramics and Heuboden wines.
The wedding page sets the scene in some detail: trees, "einem Meer von Rosen" (a sea of roses), flowers and water with a biotope, lit in the evening by spotlights on the trees and natural stone walls, with fire bowls and candles placed around the grounds. It is a garden venue first, with indoor rooms behind it.
Spaces and Capacities
The wedding page gives clear numbers. The ground floor holds 107 people and the upper floor a maximum of 70. In the garden the team can cater for up to 300 guests. There are 80 parking spaces.
That range matters: a dinner that fits the ground floor can stay indoors, while a large summer party moves into the garden. The chair-rental section also mentions a Festsaal (banquet hall) and a tent roof at the forest edge ("unter dem Zeltdach am Waldrand"), so there is a covered option outside. The page does not say how many people the tent covers, or what happens to a 300-guest garden party if the weather turns, which is the first thing to ask for a large wedding.
Ceremonies in the Garden or the Woods
The page says free ceremonies are especially popular, either in the garden area set up for them or "direkt im Wald" (right in the forest). The site does not offer a civil ceremony: the ceremonies it describes are free ceremonies, and couples should ask the registry office about the civil part themselves.
The page introduces Helen Pfaff, who works with weddings at Heuboden as a celebrant and musician, from the ceremony through the apéro and dinner to the party. Her ceremony is described as personal, humorous and emotional: live music for the entrance, the couple's love story, the ring exchange, individual rituals, involvement of the family, and live music again for the exit. For the apéro she offers live vocals and guitar, with an optional walking saxophonist or a small live band for bigger events. For dinner she offers guitar and vocals or vocals with a pianist, and the page notes that Heuboden has its own grand piano ("ein hauseigener Flügel") that can be used directly. After dinner, couples choose between DJ Helen, who also sings selected songs live, and a full party band. Combining several of her services brings better terms, according to the page. She is a partner with her own website (helenpfaff.ch), not Heuboden staff.
Photography, Film and Chairs
The page also presents Sabrina and Mischa Bättig of the Lichtblick Studio in Steinhausen, a photography team that works at Heuboden weddings. Their packages run from compact coverage of the ceremony to a full-day reportage with 12 hours on site, with a second photographer on request. All images are edited, a «Best of» website is online within 30 days, and "Fahrspesen in der ganzen Schweiz sind inbegriffen" (travel costs anywhere in Switzerland are included). They also offer wedding films with a highlights teaser, drone footage when weather and permission allow, and an audio guest book in a vintage telephone, bookable alone or free with a reportage. The team behind the camera is named as Sabrina, Mischa, Andrea and Patrick. Like Helen Pfaff, they are an outside studio the venue recommends.
Heuboden itself rents 2 chair models for the ceremony, apéro and dinner: a solid wooden crossback chair and a boho-style bamboo folding chair, both delivered with seat cushions and both priced at CHF 20 per chair excluding VAT. Those chair prices are the only prices the wedding page publishes.
Catering and Rooms
The site has its own Catering section, described on the homepage as "Genuss mit Leidenschaft, von der Planung bis zum letzten Gang" (food with passion, from the planning to the last course). The wedding page does not publish menus or per-person prices, and does not say whether outside caterers are allowed.
There is also an Unterkunft (accommodation) section, introduced as "Übernachten am Waldrand" (staying overnight at the forest edge). The wedding inquiry form lets a couple tick Übernachtung (overnight stay) and Bridal Suite alongside free ceremony, apéro, dinner and party. So there is a bridal suite and some guest accommodation on site; the wedding page does not say how many rooms there are, which is worth asking for guests flying in.
Language, Booking and Getting There
The site shows a language switcher for German, English, French, Italian and Czech, and the wedding and contact pages are in German. The wedding inquiry form asks for names, date, guest numbers, the services wanted and a description of the couple's vision. The general contact form offers wedding, company event and catering as request types. Contact is by phone on +41 41 790 14 72 or by email at info@heuboden.ch.
The Events page lists a public wedding fair (Öffentliche Hochzeitsmesse) among its past events; it is worth asking whether another is planned.
The site gives no directions on the wedding page: no nearest station, no airport transfer and no shuttle. With 80 parking spaces, it is set up for guests arriving by car. Guests without one should ask the venue how best to reach Holzhäusern.
What Stays Open
The site publishes no venue hire price, no wedding package and no menu prices. It does not state a curfew or noise rule, or the number of guest rooms. It does not say how late the garden can be used or which months it is open for outdoor weddings. These are the points a couple planning from abroad should settle before paying a deposit.
Who It Suits
Heuboden suits couples who want a garden wedding at the forest edge with a free ceremony among the trees, live music and a big party, and who like having the celebrant, musician and photographers already familiar with the venue. It covers everything from an indoor dinner to a 300-guest garden celebration, and a bridal suite on site.
It suits less well couples who need a legal ceremony on site, want fixed package prices up front, or have many guests without cars. The wedding page is German-only in practice, even if the site offers other language versions, so expect to confirm details by email.
