Marina Lachen

Tap a star to rate

Marina Lachen is a hotel and restaurant complex at Hafenstrasse 4, 8853 Lachen, on the shore of Lake Zurich in the canton of Schwyz. It combines a four-star designer hotel, four restaurant concepts, banqueting rooms and a catering service, and its wedding page is a practical one for a couple from abroad: it gives room counts, capacities, a starting price per person and minimum spends, in English, German and French.

The wedding page opens with its location in numbers: "100 metres from the landing stage, 60 metres from the registry office, 40 metres from the shaded aperitif area, and very close to the banks of the lake". For a couple planning a civil wedding in Lachen, that means a short walk from the registry office to the apéro and the dinner.

The Wedding Offer in Brief

The page's summary list covers the essentials:

  • Rooms: 14 Designrooms, 6 Junior Suites and 1 Sunset Suite.
  • For the wedding party: a free Junior Suite with lake view for the bridal couple, and reduced prices for the wedding party.
  • Apéro: the Foyer of 80 m², or various shaded apéro spots directly at the harbor.
  • Banquet room: "MonteLago", 170 m², for 80 people with music and dancing, or 120 people for a meal only.
  • Cuisine and wine: the page promises "Creative delicacies with a good price-performance ratio" and a "Wide selection in different price ranges" of wines.
  • Technology: modern presentation equipment is available.
  • Parking and arrival: public parking and bus parking right by the hotel (paid), 2 guest boat moorings, and a landing stage directly in front of the hotel.

The banqueting page adds that the rooms on the 1st floor hold banquets for up to 120 people and stand-up parties for up to 150, with "warm wooden floors and large window facade looking out onto the lake". It also shows a private room in the building "Zum Ochsen". The team offers viewings by appointment.

Prices and Minimum Spends

Marina Lachen is open about money. Food and drink start at approximately CHF 150 per person. In the MonteLago room on Saturdays from 1 April until 31 October, a minimum consumption of CHF 9,000 applies. That minimum matters most for a small group: a couple with a short guest list on a summer Saturday should check how close their own food and drink total comes to it.

The venue's answer is its Friday offer, headed "Fridays I'm in love". On Fridays from April to October the minimum consumption in MonteLago is only CHF 4500. The bridal couple still stays free in a Junior Suite with balcony and lake view, the wedding party gets attractive room rates, and the page points out that a Friday wedding leaves the whole weekend to celebrate. For couples flying in with guests who are taking time off anyway, a Friday date is worth pricing out.

What the page does not publish is the price of the guest rooms, or what a full wedding day comes to beyond the per-person starting figure. Those come with a quote.

Documents and Booking

The wedding page links several documents: a compact wedding booklet (in German), banqueting suggestions (PDF), a leaflet for the best man and witnesses (German), a checklist for the bride and groom (German) and the terms and conditions (PDF). The banqueting suggestions are where the menu ideas sit, so a couple does not have to start from nothing.

Inquiries go through an online event request form, by phone on +41 55 451 73 73 or by email at welcome@marinalachen.ch. The page invites couples to write or call with questions or to visit the premises.

The page also says couples can celebrate at Marina Lachen or "at the event location of your choice", with the company's catering service behind that offer. So the kitchen can follow a wedding elsewhere, which is useful if the ceremony and dinner are planned at another site near the lake.

The Company Behind It

The About page says Marina Gastro AG runs the Marina Lachen complex with between 70 and 90 full-time and part-time employees, and that the company is privately owned. It opened in 1971 as Seehotel al porto and was completed in 2007 as Marina Lachen. The restaurants listed on the site are The Steakhouse, Osteria Vista, Lago Lounge and OX Asian Cuisine, plus PrivatSphären and a take-away. Wedding guests staying over have somewhere to eat on the nights before and after without leaving the harbor.

What a Couple From Abroad Should Still Ask

The English wedding page is a real help, but some of the supporting documents are German only, including the wedding booklet, the checklist and the witnesses' leaflet. The site does not say whether the events team plans weddings in English, which is worth confirming at the first contact.

The page says the registry office is 60 meters away, but the civil ceremony is arranged with the registry office, not with the hotel. The wedding page does not describe a free or symbolic ceremony on the premises, and it names no celebrant.

Other open points: the room rates for the wedding party, how late music can run in MonteLago, whether the harbor apéro spots are private or shared with the public, a bad-weather plan beyond the Foyer, and accessibility of the 1st-floor banquet rooms for older guests. The site names no train station or airport transfer, so guests without cars should ask how best to reach Lachen.

Who It Suits

Marina Lachen suits couples who want a lakeside wedding with everything close together: the registry office a short walk away, an apéro at the harbor, dinner above the water and rooms for the guests in the same complex. The published prices and the Friday offer make it easy to budget, and the boat landing gives guests a way to arrive by water.

It suits less well a very small party on a summer Saturday, where the minimum spend weighs heavily, or a couple looking for a remote or exclusive estate. It is a busy hotel and restaurant complex at a harbor, not a private hideaway, and the banquet rooms sit on the 1st floor rather than at garden level. For a mid-sized wedding of up to 80 dancing guests with most people staying overnight, though, the combination of published terms, lake views and rooms in the same building is hard to fault on paper, and a viewing by appointment will settle the rest.
