Fortezza di Bellinzona

Tap a star to rate

The Fortezza di Bellinzona is the group of castles in Bellinzona, Ticino, made up of Castel Grande, Montebello and Sasso Corbaro, which its site presents under the heading "Patrimonio mondiale UNESCO" (UNESCO World Heritage). Its events page offers the fortress as "uno spazio storico ed esclusivo per matrimoni, riunioni, eventi aziendali e/o pubblici" (a historic and exclusive space for weddings, meetings, company and public events), with modular packages ("pacchetti modulabili") shaped to each event. Two of the castles are named for weddings.

The page calls the fortress "il luogo dove la storia incontra il presente" (the place where history meets the present), and its meetings section speaks of history, prestige and practicality coming together, with several locations suited to both intimate events and large conferences. Beyond events, the site runs exhibitions, guided tours and workshops, school programs and pages on the fortress's history, which gives guests plenty to explore before or after the wedding day.

The site runs in Italian, English, German and French, so a couple from abroad can read the offer in English.

The Two Wedding Locations

The wedding section says the fortress "offre due location straordinarie, ognuna con il proprio carattere unico" (offers two extraordinary locations, each with its own character).

Castel Grande is presented as the place for a big wedding: the page says it offers "ampi spazi, un'atmosfera unica e un servizio personalizzato" (ample space, a unique atmosphere and personal service).

Sasso Corbaro is the choice for the ceremony itself. The page writes: "Che tu scelga una cerimonia civile o simbolica, le sue antiche mura e la corte interna creano un'atmosfera raffinata e intima" (whether you choose a civil or a symbolic ceremony, its ancient walls and inner courtyard create a refined and intimate atmosphere). A couple planning a civil ceremony there should confirm the arrangements with the fortress and the local registry office.

The page publishes no guest numbers for either castle, no room names and no floor plans. Couples must ask what fits their guest list, and whether a ceremony at Sasso Corbaro and a reception at Castel Grande can be combined on the same day.

Catering and Services

The page lists six services under "Catering e servizi".

Food. The fortress has two restaurants, Ristorante Castelgrande and Osteria Sasso Corbaro. The page describes "una cucina raffinata e di alta qualità" (refined, high-quality cooking) made with "ingredienti freschi e selezionati" (fresh, selected ingredients), and names "un banchetto nuziale" (a wedding banquet) among the occasions it caters, alongside gala dinners and informal lunches. No menus or prices appear on the events page, and it does not say whether outside caterers are allowed.

Coffee breaks. Custom breaks with fine coffees, sweets and savory snacks, which the page presents as a way to refresh guests during the day.

Decoration. Custom set-ups for weddings, parties and company events, "dalle decorazioni floreali agli arredi" (from flower arrangements to furniture), with elegant compositions and creative details.

Technical support. Screens, microphones, sound systems and projectors, with the fortress's technical team making sure the equipment fits the atmosphere. Useful for speeches, a first-dance playlist or a slideshow.

Guided tours. Personalized tours with expert guides through the history and cultural heritage of the castle, a strong option for wedding guests who have traveled far and want to see the site.

Parking. The page says access is made easy by "un ampio parcheggio a Sasso Corbaro e da un comodo autosilo nei pressi di Castel Grande, a pochi passi dalla nostra location" (a large car park at Sasso Corbaro and a convenient multi-story car park near Castel Grande, a few steps from the venue).

Opening Hours and Seasons

The fortress is also a visitor attraction with public opening hours, which matters for a wedding date. From 28 March to 8 November 2026, Castel Grande, Montebello and Sasso Corbaro are open from 10.00 to 18.00, last entry 17.30. From 9 November 2026 to 18 March 2027, the hours are 10.30 to 16.00, last entry 15.30, and only Castel Grande stays open; the inner and outer courtyards of Montebello and Sasso Corbaro can still be visited.

The page does not say how these hours apply to private events. A couple planning a winter wedding at Sasso Corbaro, or an evening reception at either castle, should ask whether the space is available outside public hours, and whether other visitors will be on site during the ceremony.

Getting There and Staying Over

The site's Visit section includes pages on how to get there (Come arrivare), dining (Ristorazione) and overnight stays (Pernottare). The events page itself names only the two car parks. For guests coming from abroad, the arrival and accommodation pages are the next place to look, and the events team can be asked about transfers between the castles.

Contact

The events page gives the address as Fortezza di Bellinzona, 6500 Bellinzona, and the email info@fortezzabellinzona.ch. It also lists Bellinzona e Valli Turismo, the regional tourist office, with the telephone number +41 (0)91 825 21 31. The page invites couples to book their space ("Prenota ora il tuo spazio ideale alla Fortezza").

The fortress lists memberships of the Associazione i Castelli Svizzeri (the Swiss castles association) and World Heritage Experience Switzerland, and carries the Swisstainable label.

What Stays Open

The site publishes no prices, package contents, capacities, deposit or cancellation terms, or booking lead times. It does not say what happens in rain for a courtyard ceremony, whether the castles can be booked exclusively, or how late a reception may run. It does not name an events coordinator. A couple from abroad should settle each point in writing before booking.

Who It Suits

The Fortezza di Bellinzona suits couples who want a wedding in a UNESCO-listed castle, with an intimate ceremony in the courtyard of Sasso Corbaro, a larger celebration at Castel Grande, catering from the castles' own restaurants and guided tours for guests. The English version of the site makes the first steps easy.

It suits less well couples who need published prices and capacities from the start, a guaranteed private site during public opening hours, or a winter ceremony at Sasso Corbaro without first confirming access.
