Mountain weddings on the Hannigalp
Grächen is a village resort in the Valais, and its wedding offer is run through the local tourism organization, Grächen & St. Niklaus Tourismus & Gewerbe, on the resort's own website. The weddings take place on the Hannigalp in Grächen, where the page names two ceremony options, a hall with a terrace for the reception, an in-house kitchen crew and a planning service that coordinates the rest. The pitch is "Everything from a single source: location, catering, transport and planning," which makes this less a single venue than a package assembled around one mountain location.
The wedding page is published in German and English, and the English version is a full translation rather than a summary. It also offers a wedding brochure as a PDF download (9.05 MB) with all the information for a mountain wedding. For couples planning from abroad, the English page is a genuine starting point rather than a machine translation of a German flyer.
The ceremony options
The page offers a choice. A church ceremony can take place in the romantic Hannigalp chapel, as the page describes it, or a symbolic ceremony can be held in the Matterhornsaal, the same hall used for the reception. The second option keeps the ceremony and the party in one place, which is practical at altitude and for guests who have traveled far. The page does not describe the chapel's size or how a church ceremony is booked, but it says the planning team can pass on contacts from its partners, from wedding planners to the local parish ("bis zur Pfarrei").
The page does not mention a civil ceremony. The legal side of a wedding for a foreign couple is not covered on the wedding page, so couples who want the marriage to be legally registered should settle that separately before planning the mountain day.
The Matterhornsaal and its terrace
The Matterhornsaal is the reception space. The page describes it as built of natural wood, with views of the Grächen mountains and the Matterhorn, and gives a capacity of up to 110 guests inside. Its terrace allows an outdoor celebration with up to 140 guests. Those two figures are the only capacities on the page, and they set the scale: a mid-sized wedding rather than a very large one.
Decoration is flexible. The page says couples can choose from the house selection of decoration materials or carry out their own ideas. For flowers, the team puts couples in touch with suitable florists, but the organization of the flowers is then in the couple's hands or with their own wedding planner. Music is organized by the couple too: whether it is a band or a DJ, the hall's technical equipment (a sound system, a projector and a screen) is at their disposal, and extra equipment such as lighting or outdoor sound systems can be rented as an option.
Catering
The kitchen crew is presented as part of the offer. The page says it places great importance on fresh, seasonal and sustainable produce, uses only the best ingredients and cooks everything fresh. It gives examples of homemade dishes, from a sauce to roast beef cooked pink to a freshly baked cake, and says the crew realizes couples' personal wishes "mit Herz" (with heart). There is no sample menu and no price per person on the page.
The planning service
The planning service is the most useful element for couples who do not live in Switzerland. The page says the team coordinates location, transport, menu, decoration, entertainment and accommodation for the couple and their guests, "from the first idea to the last dance," and that the organization is flexible and modular. It stresses personal support from an experienced team on site. The planning offer is described as free of charge and without obligation ("Kostenlos und unverbindlich"). The page closes by saying this makes a mountain wedding "stress-free, personal and perfectly tailored to you."
The resort site also offers booking of hotels and holiday apartments, and the wedding page links to it with a booking button, so accommodation for guests sits within the same organization's reach. The page does not name specific hotels or room types.
Seasons and setting
The page says Grächen works for a wedding in summer or winter, "from flower-filled meadows to snowy scenery," and describes a sunny location with panoramic views of the Valais Alps. The rest of the site shows the resort's seasons: skiing, sledging and winter hiking in winter, hiking and mountain biking in summer. The wedding page does not say whether the hall or the chapel close at any point in the year, and it does not say how guests reach the Hannigalp from the village in each season. The site has a separate section on getting here and public transport, but the wedding page itself does not describe the journey to Grächen or up the mountain.
What the page does not settle
The page publishes no prices: no hall hire, no catering per head, no package and no minimum spend. It gives no terms for deposits or cancellation. It says transport is part of the coordinated offer but not what that transport is or what it costs. It does not describe the chapel's capacity or the rules for a church ceremony there, and it does not say which languages the planning team works in, although the wedding page itself is published in full in English. Couples should ask about all of these, along with a weather plan if they want the terrace.

Who it suits
Grächen suits couples who want a mountain wedding for up to 110 guests indoors (or 140 on the terrace), with one team coordinating the location, food, transport and guest accommodation, and who like the idea of a free planning service rather than hiring a planner of their own. Couples with guests arriving from abroad benefit most from having rooms, transport and the venue arranged together.
It suits less well a couple planning a very large wedding above the stated capacities, or a couple who wants a fixed package price before the first conversation. Flowers and music remain the couple's own job, so a couple wanting everything handled should budget for a wedding planner or book those suppliers early.
