A boutique hotel in the center of Brig
Hotel Stockalperhof is a boutique hotel at Alte Simplonstrasse 6 in Brig-Glis, in the old town of Brig in the Valais. It takes its name from the Stockalperschloss, the palace the site calls the proud landmark of the town, and its interior design picks up the flair of Kaspar Stockalper and his palace in what the hotel describes as a simple, modern and at the same time historic ambiance. The legal notice names the operating company as Valais Hotel Management AG.
For weddings, the hotel's pitch is simple: one building with an event room, a restaurant, bars, terraces and 32 bedrooms, so the whole wedding party can stay under one roof. The celebrations page puts it as "Imagine the convenience of accommodating your entire company under one roof." For couples whose guests are flying in, that is the main reason to look at it.
The event spaces
The celebrations page lists what the hotel has: "a spacious event room with attached private terrace, 32 chic bedrooms, restaurant, terrace, terrace lounge, bar and outdoor bar." It frames parties "from intimate to grand," and weddings are named among the uses of its rooms on the seminars and banquets page, alongside private functions, receptions and club meetings.
The site gives no capacity for the event room, no dimensions and no floor plan. It does not say whether a ceremony can be held on the terrace or in the event room, and it does not mention officiants or a civil ceremony. The seminars page adds some detail on how the rooms work for meetings: different seating layouts, day rates, and equipment such as a projector, flipchart and audio technology, with catering options from an aperitif and coffee breaks to a lunch or buffet lunch. It also offers a brochure. For a wedding, those details give a sense of the rooms' flexibility, but the size of the event room is the first question to ask.
Food and drink
The hotel's restaurant is La Terrazza, which the site calls "Home of Pasta," and the navigation also lists Il Pastificio. The restaurant is described as "Hausgemacht, frisch, italienisch angehaucht" (homemade, fresh, with an Italian touch), open from 9:00 to 24:00 for breakfast, lunch, dinner and aperitifs, with a terrace, a terrace lounge and a bar. The site promises seasonal, healthy cooking from high-quality ingredients with attention to every detail, and says the La Terrazza concept also serves as a place for events and parties. The homepage also features Commerce, an Italian ristorante and pizzeria on the Sebastiansplatz.
There is no wedding menu, no price per head and no statement on whether couples may bring outside caterers or their own wine.
Rooms for the wedding party
The hotel has 32 bedrooms in 6 categories: Roof Queen Room, Cosy Double Room, Roof Double Room with Balcony, Premium Room with Balcony, Family Room and Panorama Lifestyle Room. The rooms page says every room is above average in size for its category and has a clear view either north over the old town of Brig or south to the Simplon mountains, and almost every room has its own balcony. Every double bed can be split into 2 single beds, and sofa beds give space for up to 4 people. The Premium Room is a double or triple with a sofa bed and a south balcony; the Family Room takes up to 4 people with a north balcony; the Panorama Lifestyle Room is for 2 people, with a seating area and a view of the old town and the Belalp area. All rooms have free Wi-Fi.
Rooms can be booked directly on the website, which promises its best price for direct bookings. The site publishes no group rate or wedding block terms.
Getting there
The directions page is unusually complete, which is useful for guests coming from abroad. It says Brig-Glis can be reached year-round by car or public transport and calls it an international transport hub. By train, it names the SBB Simplon and Lötschberg lines, InterCity connections through the Lötschberg base tunnel, the RegioExpress Lötschberger and the Glacier Express. The hotel says Brig station is 400 m away.
For guests flying in, the page lists the international airports of Zürich, Geneva and Basel in Switzerland and Milan-Malpensa in Italy, and says there are mostly direct train connections from those airports to Brig.
By car, the page names the A9 motorway, the Furka Pass (with year-round car transport), the Grimsel and Nufenen passes (open in summer) and the car transport through the Lötschberg. Parking is in the public Altstadt car park at Neue Simplonstrasse 25, from which the directions page gives 210 m on foot to the hotel, past the Goudron monument. The homepage gives the car park as 50 meters away. The hotel does not have its own car park according to these pages, and it does not mention a shuttle.
Booking and language
The events enquiry form asks for name, company, email, phone, date, number of people, whether hotel rooms are needed and a remark, which matches how a wedding here would be planned: event and rooms together. The hotel also says no appointment is needed, "Einfach anrufen oder mailen" (just call or email), at +41 (0) 27 922 26 00 or info@stockalperhof.ch.
The site is published in German and English, and the celebrations and seminars pages exist in English. It does not state which languages the events team works in, so couples who plan in English should confirm that when they first write.
What the site does not settle
The site publishes no prices for the event room, food or rooms for a wedding, no capacity for the event room, no deposit or cancellation terms, and no end time for a party. It does not say whether the event room and terrace are private to a wedding or can be shared with other hotel guests, whether a ceremony can be held on site, or whether outside suppliers are welcome.
Who it suits
Hotel Stockalperhof suits couples who want a practical, town-center wedding weekend in the Valais, with guests sleeping in the same building as the party and a restaurant with an Italian kitchen in the house. The train access the hotel describes, with the station 400 m away and direct connections from several airports, means guests can arrive without a car.
It suits less well a couple who wants a large outdoor ceremony, a secluded setting, or a published price and capacity before the first conversation. The old-town location is the point of the place, and the event room's size needs to be confirmed early.
