A relaxed hotel in Zermatt with a wedding offer
Hotel Zermama is a hotel at Matterstrasse 23 in Zermatt, and it writes about itself in the voice of "Mama", a host who looks after everyone. Its wedding offer is built around the Zermama Bistro, a sun terrace with a view of the Matterhorn, rooms for the couple and their guests, and the option to rent the whole hotel. The events page says the bistro can be used for groups of 6 to 80 people, and that the hotel can be rented entirely for a private event.
The tone of the site is informal and playful, and so is the offer. The wedding blog post opens "Hochzeit mit Matterhornblick: Sagt Ja bei Mama in Zermatt" (a wedding with a Matterhorn view: say yes at Mama's in Zermatt), and the events page promises that "Mit dem Matterhorn als magische Bergkulisse wird jedes Fest ein Anlass zum Erfolg" (with the Matterhorn as an enchanting mountain backdrop, every celebration becomes a success). This is a place for couples who want a warm, unfussy celebration rather than a formal banquet.
Ceremony and celebration
The wedding post says the hotel suits anything from a small, intimate ceremony for a "freie Trauung" (a free ceremony) to a large wedding party with family and friends. The dinner and the dancing take place in the Zermama Bistro, which the post calls stylish, and the toast happens on "Mama's Sonnenterrasse" (Mama's sun terrace), with a view of the Matterhorn. The post's FAQ adds that Zermatt is a popular place for free ceremonies and small wedding ceremonies, pointing to the car-free village, the mountain panorama and the personal care of the hotel team.
The site does not mention a civil ceremony; its wedding pages are about the free ceremony and the party.
What the wedding offer includes
The wedding post says there is no standard program and that each wedding is planned individually. It lists what the hotel offers, and the FAQ confirms these are what the wedding offer includes:
- a champagne reception on the terrace
- a festive wedding dinner put together by the kitchen team
- a cocktail and wine bar to end the evening
- live music or a DJ, as the couple wishes
- exclusive rental of the whole hotel for a private celebration, for couples who want the place to themselves
On music, the events page says Mama books the DJ or live band she trusts. Beyond these, the post runs through decoration, flowers, a photographer, a DJ and even a shuttle for the grandmother, and answers: "Haben wir. Oder kennen wir. Oder zaubern wir." (We have it. Or we know someone. Or we conjure it up.) The FAQ says the hotel organizes or arranges everything from decoration and flowers to a photographer or a shuttle service. The site does not say which of these are provided by the hotel itself and which by partners.
Food
The events page says the hotel's team provides accommodation, breakfast, lunch and dinner, and that catering is also possible. The wedding post describes the kitchen as combining regional produce and international favorite recipes, and says the format can be an elegant wedding menu or a relaxed buffet. There is no sample menu and no price on either page.
Rooms for the wedding party
The wedding post assigns rooms with a wink: the Pool & Spa room for the couple, Sweet Matterhorn for the witnesses, Doppel Matterhorn "mit Ruhe" (with quiet) for the grandparents, and Mama's Doppel for friends who like to dance. The site's menu lists more room types (Single, Doppel, Doppel M, Doppel L, Mama's Doppel L Family, Sweet M, Pool Position and Pool & Spa). The morning after, the hotel serves a hangover breakfast.
The site does not give the total number of rooms or say how many guests can sleep in the hotel when it is rented exclusively. For a wedding where guests stay over, that number is the key question.
Other spaces
Beyond the bistro and the sun terrace, the site's menu shows Mama's Garten Terrasse, an après-ski offer, a shisha lounge and breakfast and brunch. The events page says the hotel has fully equipped meeting rooms and festive rooms, and lists weddings alongside vernissages, birthday parties, company events, Christmas parties and a business hub. None of these spaces has a published capacity apart from the bistro's 6 to 80.
Booking and language
The FAQ says the easiest way to start is a no-obligation enquiry to info@zermama.ch, and a detailed wedding brochure is available to download. The phone number given is +41 27 966 90 00. The site has German, English and French versions in its language menu; the wedding pages are written in German, and the site does not state which languages the team works in. Couples who plan in English should say so in the first email.
What the site does not settle
No prices are published for the bistro, the wedding dinner, the exclusive rental or the rooms. Asked how many guests fit, the FAQ itself says to ask the hotel directly to find the right space for the guest count; beyond the bistro's 6 to 80, there is no figure. The site gives no deposit terms, no cancellation policy, no end time for the party and no description of which months weddings are possible. It does not describe how guests reach the hotel in the car-free village, beyond listing a shuttle among the things it can arrange.
Who it suits
Hotel Zermama suits couples who want a relaxed wedding in Zermatt with a Matterhorn view from the terrace, a free ceremony, a bistro dinner and a party, and guests staying in the same house, up to taking over the whole hotel. The playful, personal style and the promise to supply or find whatever is needed suit couples who would rather hand the details to the hotel than manage suppliers themselves.
It suits less well a couple who wants a formal, black-tie banquet, a civil ceremony on site, or clear prices before a first conversation. Guest lists above the bistro's 80 need to be discussed with the hotel, as the site gives no larger capacity.
