A restaurant and hotel in Aarau that plans weddings

Gasthof zum Schützen is a restaurant with rooms at Schachenallee 39 in Aarau, run by Gasthof zum Schützen AG. Its site covers a restaurant, take-away, a lounge, a bar, a fumoir, hotel rooms, banquets, seminars, catering and weddings, and its menu also lists the Waldhaus Gehren. The wedding page is headed "In den besten Händen" (in the best hands), and it offers two things to a couple: a wedding at the Schützen itself, and the Schützen's catering team at a venue of the couple's choice.

The pitch is personal. The page says a wedding is not something you plan every day, so what matters is a partner who listens, thinks along and knows what counts. With years of experience, personal advice and a practiced team, the Schützen says it accompanies couples from the first ideas to the day itself.

The events team

The page introduces the people by name: Flurina Bossert, Melanie Altorfer and Manuela Schmid, who have long experience in events and advise "Mit Leidenschaft zum Beruf" (with a passion for the job). The same three appear on the catering page, so a couple deals with the same team whether the wedding is at the Schützen or elsewhere.

The page describes what they do. Together with the couple they discuss wishes, advise on the menu, the aperitif, the running order and the organization, and offer a test meal ("Testessen") so the couple can be sure everything matches their idea. The page frames the questions the team helps answer: which running order creates the right atmosphere, when the ideal moment for the aperitif is, and how the menu, entertainment and program fit together. It says the team has accompanied many weddings over many years.

Brochure, packages and a worked example

This is the most useful part of the page for a couple planning from abroad, because it goes further than most Swiss venues. Under the heading "Pauschalen. Transparenz. Sicherheit." (packages, transparency, security), the page says its event brochure contains menu suggestions, information on the running order and organization, and concrete examples of wedding packages. It is supplemented by aperitif packages that also work for weddings. The page's stated aim is that couples get "früh einen realistischen Eindruck der Möglichkeiten und Kosten" (an early, realistic impression of the possibilities and costs).

The brochure can be downloaded directly from the wedding page, and there are separate links to the aperitif packages and the celebration packages ("Apéro-Pauschalen" and "Fest-Pauschalen"). The page also links to an example of a wedding aperitif at Schloss Wildegg, showing how services, infrastructure and costs are put together. The prices themselves are in those documents rather than on the wedding page.

Catering at another venue

The catering page is titled "Wir bringen den Schützen zu Ihnen" (we bring the Schützen to you). It says catering has been one of the Schützen's core skills for many years and that the team supports events of every size across the region. The service can be just food and drink, or it can include planning, organization, infrastructure, service and coordination on site. The team goes wherever the event takes place: a private home, a castle, a gym hall, a forest hut, a marquee or company premises. It takes time for a personal consultation and tailors the offer to the couple's wishes, the location and the budget, and it offers help in choosing a location.

The page lists location tips in the region: KUK in Aarau, Vianco Arena in Brunegg, Bärenmatte in Suhr, Schloss Liebegg in Gränichen, Schloss Wildegg in Möriken and Schloss Lenzburg in Lenzburg. For weddings it mentions the wedding aperitif in particular, with lovingly presented aperitifs and personal service while the couple celebrates.

Suppliers the team recommends

The wedding page names professional wedding suppliers from the region that the team says it knows personally and recommends: the photographers Michael Auer, Remo Peer and Cornelius Fischer, the florist Blattform Aarau, Törtlifee Suhr for the wedding cake, SmARTec for event technology and DJ Monsieur Fischer. For a couple who does not know the area, that list is a real starting point.

Opening hours, rooms and contact

The restaurant is open Tuesday to Sunday from 6.30 to 23.00 (Sunday until 21.00). Monday is its rest day, although the office is open. The page lists holiday closures from 31 January to 15 February 2027 and from 18 July to 4 August 2027, which matters for anyone considering a date in those weeks. The site's menu has a page on the rooms, so guests can stay in the house, although the wedding page does not say how many rooms there are or offer wedding rates.

Enquiries go to +41 62 823 01 24 or info@gasthofschuetzen.ch, and there is a no-obligation enquiry form. The site shows a rating of 4.6 stars from 2172 reviews.

Language

The site is in German, and the pages do not state whether the events team works in English. Couples who plan in English should ask in their first message.

What the pages do not settle

The wedding page does not give a guest capacity for the Schützen's own rooms (the site has a separate page on its spaces), and it does not say whether a wedding has the restaurant to itself. It does not mention a ceremony on site, an end time for the party or the booking lead time. It does not say whether the test meal is charged. The wedding page does not describe how guests reach the Schützen, and the prices are in the brochure and package documents rather than on the page itself.

Who it suits

Gasthof zum Schützen suits couples in or around Aarau who want a hands-on team to plan the food and the running order with them, and who like to see package examples and costs early. It also suits couples who have found a castle, a forest hut or another venue in the region and need a caterer that can bring the whole service with it.

It suits less well a couple who wants a spectacular setting at the restaurant itself, or who needs to plan entirely in English without first confirming it. The team's strength is organization and food rather than scenery, and the venue is chosen for that.
