An organic farm with a converted event barn
Hof Wiesengrund is an organic farm at Grundstrasse 23 in Oberglatt, run by Dani and Susanne Maag through Hof Wiesengrund AG. The Maags farm 40 hectares, and for weddings and other events they have turned the farm's former pigsty into an event room they call the "patentwürdigen Ökostall" (the patent-worthy eco-stable). The site's tagline is "Wo unkonventionelle Träume wahr werden" (where unconventional dreams come true), and the wedding page describes the setting as the natural and idyllic surroundings of a farm near Zurich.
This is a working farm first. A wedding here takes place among the fields, cows and farm buildings, hosted by the farming family, which is the whole reason to choose it.
The farm behind the venue
The about page gives a clear picture of the farm. The Maags grow beetroot ("Randen"), potatoes, carrots, onions and grain, including seed grain, and keep 30 dairy cows and as many young animals, which graze day and night and are in the barn only in winter. They bought what they describe as the first mobile milking parlor in Switzerland and drive it out to the pasture for milking, and a trial with a weeding robot is running on their fields. The page says values like closeness to nature and care for others are the basis of their daily life and work, not sales slogans, and that their methods have drawn attention from SRF, which featured the farm in "5 Sterne Milch" and "Fenster zum Sonntag". The page describes the farm as a modern family business that has been in the family for generations, and says that instead of complaining about things getting worse, the Maags run it with initiative and entrepreneurial courage.
The farm also has a social side. The Maags offer people they describe as "sozialoriginell" a family environment, meaningful work and constant 1:1 support, living and working together on the farm. They say: "Wir freuen uns, wenn aus nichts etwas entsteht" (we are happy when something comes out of nothing), adding that God's blessing also shows itself in a lot of sweat and perseverance. The Maags' faith is part of how they present the farm.
The Ökostall and the wedding offer
The about page explains the conversion of the former pigsty into a cozy event room: the more guests visit the farm, the more firmly it is rooted in the region. It gives an idea of scale in its own words, from bankers holding an off-site meeting to "eine hundertköpfige Hochzeitsgesellschaft" (a wedding party of a hundred people) celebrating in natural surroundings. The room combines rustic flair with modern comfort.
The wedding page invites couples to imagine "eine Trauung unter freiem Himmel oder in unserem idyllischen und patentwürdigen Ökostall" (a ceremony under the open sky or in our idyllic, patent-worthy eco-stable). Food is served in the converted former stable, and the Maags say they create an atmosphere "die rustikal und gleichzeitig elegant ist" (that is rustic and at the same time elegant). Their "Sorglospaket" (worry-free package) is meant to take all the worries off the couple so they can enjoy the day.
The page says, "Individuell beraten wir jedes Paar und entwickeln massgeschneiderte Lösungen für Ihre Hochzeit" (we advise each couple individually and develop tailor-made solutions for your wedding), and mentions many years of experience.
Two information packs
The wedding page is split into two offers, each with its own downloadable information pack. The first, "Trauung und Apéro auf dem Hof", covers holding the ceremony and the following aperitif at the farm ("Infomappe Trauung und Apéro"). The second, "Hochzeitsfest auf dem Hof", covers the wedding celebration for invited guests, with the options set out in a pack on the wedding meal ("Infomappe Hochzeitsessen"). The contents and prices of those packs are not on the web page itself, so couples need to download them.
The about page adds that companies get all-inclusive prices, so they know in advance what the event will cost. It does not say whether weddings are priced the same way.
Other things on the farm
The site shows more of the setting on its birthday page: a shady walnut tree, a splashing waterfall and a living biotope. It also lists overnight stays ("Übernachtungen"), a wellness lodge described as a retreat for couples a short drive from Zurich, and a private spa offer called "Privat SPA & GodSPA". For a wedding couple, the lodge could be the place to stay on the night; the site does not describe rooms for a larger group of guests.
Sundays and contact
One rule is firm: "Der Sonntag ist unser Familientag, da sind keine Buchungen möglich" (Sunday is our family day, no bookings are possible). A Sunday wedding is not an option here.
The farm can be reached at +41 44 851 11 77, and the wedding page has a no-obligation enquiry button. The site is in German only and does not say whether the Maags work in English, so couples planning in English should ask first.
What the site does not settle
The web page does not give prices, a maximum seated capacity for the Ökostall beyond the hundred-strong wedding party the about page mentions, an end time, or parking and public transport details. It does not say whether a wedding has the farm to itself on the day, whether the food comes from the farm's own produce, or whether outside suppliers such as a DJ or a florist are welcome. The two information packs are the first thing to read, and the questions they leave open go into the enquiry.
Who it suits
Hof Wiesengrund suits couples who want a genuine farm wedding near Zurich, with an outdoor or barn ceremony, an aperitif among the fields and a dinner in a converted stable, hosted by a family whose farming and social work are part of the experience. Couples who care about organic farming or like the story of the mobile milking parlor and the weeding robot will find it more meaningful than a themed barn.
It suits less well a couple who wants a Sunday date, polished luxury, or an English-language planning process without checking first. The setting is rustic by design, and guests should expect a farm rather than a hotel.
