A bar on the roof, with room for a wedding
Rooftop Aarau is a rooftop bar and event venue at Delfterstrasse 12 in 5000 Aarau, in the canton of Aargau. Its event page leads with the numbers: an 800 m² roof terrace, modular areas and a 360 degree view over the town. The same page lists weddings among the things it hosts, next to business events, birthdays, aperitifs, tastings and parties. The business calls itself Rooftop Aarau Bar & Events, and it runs as a bar with seasonal programs as well as a hire venue: a sand oasis in summer and heated fondue igloos in winter, with the panoramic view all year.
For a wedding couple, the pitch on the page is short: "Ein Setting, das eure Liebesgeschichte rahmt", a setting that frames your love story. Under private celebrations the site lists "Hochzeiten, Trauungsapéro und Verlobungen": weddings, the aperitif after the ceremony, and engagements. It also says individual areas can be reserved exclusively.
The spaces and what they hold
The site divides the roof into areas that can be combined:
- Turm-Suite (tower suite): up to 60 people.
- Grosser Iglu (large igloo): up to 24 people.
- Kleiner Iglu (small igloo): up to 12 people.
- Gondel (gondola): up to 4 people.
- Event-Lounge im Zelt (event lounge in a tent): up to 50 people.
- Sandoase / Open-Air: flexible capacity.
- Indoor-Bar: open all year.
- Ganze Location exklusiv: the whole venue exclusively, up to 600 guests.
The event formats the site lists give a useful sense of scale for a wedding. A private celebration is listed at 20 to 150 people, a business aperitif at 20 to 80, and exclusive hire of the whole roof at up to 600. For most weddings the private celebration range is the realistic one, with the tower suite or tent lounge for a seated part of the evening and the open-air area for the aperitif in summer. The igloos and gondolas are part of the winter program, so a winter wedding party here would look quite different from a summer one.
What is already on site
The page makes a point of how much is in place, so that clients save time and extra rental costs. It lists:
- Presentation and technology: large-screen TVs, a movable and height-adjustable TV, a projector, HDMI connections and high-speed Wi-Fi.
- Music and entertainment: a professional sound system, a DJ booth, a microphone, and big screens for live sport and presentations.
- Location: a fully equipped bar, flexible seating and table layouts, indoor and outdoor areas, a covered terrace and the 360 degree view.
- Services: catering, drinks and bar service, DJs, live music, photographer and videographer, decoration, floristry, hosting (Moderation), entertainment and individual event planning.
The page also mentions an Auto-Lift, a car lift to the roof, which it pitches for vehicle presentations. For a wedding, the relevant point is the line under the address: "Lift bis aufs Dach", a lift up to the roof. The page does not say more about step-free access, so couples with guests who use a wheelchair should ask.
Outside private hire the roof runs its own calendar. The newsletter section mentions events, the Winterzauber winter program, Daydance, brunches and seasonal specials, and the footer lists the venue as an official EventButler partner and a partner of eventlokale.ch. For a wedding weekend, a brunch the day after is worth asking about, since the venue already runs them.
Food and drink
Catering and bar are on the list of services, and the page links to the current drinks and food menu. It says food, drinks and bar service are matched to the event, and one of its FAQ headings asks how catering works at an event, but the answer is not printed on the event page itself. There is no wedding menu and no statement on whether outside caterers or a cake from another supplier are allowed.
Prices and booking
The event page publishes no prices for hire, packages or catering. Inquiries go through a no-obligation form asking for name, company, email, phone, type of event, date, number of people and a message, or by phone on +41 76 627 69 97, WhatsApp, or email at info@rooftop-aarau.ch. The site says the team will reply personally. The footer links to general terms and cancellation conditions (AGB & Stornierbedingungen), which a couple should read before signing. An FAQ heading asks how far ahead to inquire, but again the answer is not shown on the page.
Getting there and the language question
The address line on the page reads "Delfterstrasse 12, 5000 Aarau · kostenlose Parkplätze · Lift bis aufs Dach": free parking and a lift to the roof. The page names no station or bus stop and gives no directions from Zurich or elsewhere. It says nothing about hotels.
The site is written in German, in the informal du form throughout. It does not say whether the team works in English. A couple planning from abroad should write in English and ask, and should also ask how the space is protected from weather: the covered terrace and indoor bar are listed, but the page does not describe a rain plan for a wedding.
What the page does not settle
- Prices for exclusive hire and for individual areas.
- Whether a ceremony can take place on the roof, as opposed to the aperitif and party.
- Catering rules and a sample wedding menu.
- End times and noise limits for an evening event in the middle of town.
- Whether the bar stays open to the public when only part of the roof is booked.
Who it suits
Rooftop Aarau suits a couple who want a modern, urban party with a view, particularly an aperitif after a civil ceremony or a relaxed evening celebration, and who like the idea of a sand oasis in summer or igloos in winter. The equipment list means little needs to be brought in, and the size range reaches from a small group in an igloo to hundreds on the whole roof.
It suits less well a couple looking for a traditional or historic setting, or one who wants a venue that describes its wedding experience in detail. Weddings are one of many event types here, and the page gives more space to corporate events than to them, so the couple will need to set out their plans clearly in the first inquiry.
