Guglerahof

Tap a star to rate

The Guglerahof is an organic farm at Guglera 6 in 1735 Giffers, in the canton of Fribourg, that turns into a wedding location in summer. Its wedding page offers boho-style, barn and field weddings for up to 120 people, with room for guests to camp or park a camper van, and food made as far as possible from the farm's own produce. It says plainly that it is not a classic wedding venue: the barns, fields and paths are in daily use, and the farm keeps working around the celebration.

The farm

The about page places the Guglerahof at over 900 m above sea level, between the municipalities of Rechthalten and Giffers, surrounded by large fields, pastures and woodland. Original Braunvieh cows supply milk every day to the village cheese dairy, and the arable land is mainly used to grow the farm's own feed. Since 1 January 2023 the Guglerahof has been a Bio Suisse Vollknospe farm, the full organic "bud" certification. It sells mixed boxes and single cuts of organic beef, beef jerky, wood-oven bread, cheese, apple juice (Süssmost) and buckwheat. The same page says that in summer the farm also becomes a wedding location for couples and other events.

The philosophy page describes a very large, varied farm with land, forest, water, several buildings and a bakery, and sets out its ideas: co-farming, where people take responsibility for their own projects on the farm (a beekeeper who has outgrown her garden, WWOOF volunteers); a planned co-working space in the Fribourg uplands; combining tested traditions with new ideas; running the farm as a profitable business; and farming close to nature, inspired by organic and permaculture approaches. The philosophy page opens with an English quotation it attributes to Mother Teresa, "I can do things you cannot, you can do things I cannot; Together we can do great things.", which sums up how the farm sees itself. The logo page explains the farmhouse with its characteristic tower inside a hexagon shaped like a G, chosen because the honeycomb stands for the farm's ideal of a community project.

The wedding offer

The wedding page, "Hochzeit feiern auf dem Bauernhof" (celebrating a wedding on the farm), is short but clear:

  • Styles: boho, barn or field weddings; "in unseren Räumlichkeiten ist vieles möglich" (a lot is possible in our spaces).
  • Size: up to 120 people.
  • Character: "wir sind keine klassische Hochzeitslocation" (we are not a classic wedding location). The farm suits couples looking for something "authentisches, einfach aber schick, mit einzigartigem Stil" (authentic, simple but stylish, with a unique style).
  • Overnight: a place for tents and campers is available for weddings, so all guests can celebrate without worrying about getting home.
  • Team: farm weddings happen with the help of the farm staff and of family and friends who support the farm wholeheartedly.
  • Food: the catering uses as many farm products as possible, with an emphasis on organic produce.
  • Planning: the team offers its experience and know-how for planning, organization and running the day.

More photos of past events are on the farm's Instagram account, @guglerahof, and the page offers a no-obligation meeting to see the farm and the options.

Farm produce on the day and after

For a wedding, the farm's own products are more than a catering detail. The site sells organic beef, beef jerky, wood-oven bread, apple juice and buckwheat through its own shop pages, and the philosophy page lists a bakery among the farm's resources. Couples who want edible favors or a welcome basket for guests can ask whether the farm will supply them alongside the catering. The farm also sends a regular newsletter, the Hofpost, about farm life, new products and events, and keeps a blog called Hofgeflüster (farm whispers), both of which give a sense of the place and its seasons to a couple watching from abroad.

Availability

This is the first thing to check. The page says the farm holds only a limited number of weddings each season, because there is plenty of other work going on and because it should stay something special. It states that 2026 is fully booked with no availability left and that 2027 still has good availability. Couples planning a wedding soon should look at 2027 or later.

For couples from abroad

The site is in German only, uses the informal "du" and "ihr", and says nothing about English. Contact is through a contact form; no phone number or email appears on the pages beyond the address and links to Facebook, Instagram and a map. A couple planning from abroad should use the form, write in English or simple German, and ask early whether planning can be done in English.

The camping area is the main accommodation option the page mentions. For guests flying in without camping gear, rooms will need to be found elsewhere in the region, which the site does not help with. The site gives no directions and no public transport information beyond the address and a map link, so arrival, parking and transfers from the nearest station are questions for the farm.

What the site does not settle

The page names no specific rooms or barns, no prices, no menus and no deposit or cancellation terms. It says nothing about a ceremony, civil or otherwise, so the legal marriage is arranged separately. It does not describe a rain plan, heating, power, sound or toilets for a wedding in the fields, all of which matter at a working farm at this altitude. It gives no end time or noise rules. The farm's own staff, family and friends help at weddings, which gives a personal feel but means a couple should ask what service level to expect at dinner.

Who it suits

The Guglerahof suits a couple who want a relaxed, rustic farm wedding for up to 120 guests in the Fribourg countryside, with organic farm food, friends camping in the meadow and a working farm all around. It fits couples who value authenticity over polish and who are happy to plan closely with the farm team. The caveats are a fully booked 2026, a German-only site with no published prices, and practical questions about accommodation, weather and access that only a conversation will answer.
