Enrico Mantegazza

Tap a star to rate

Enrico Mantegazza is a wedding photographer with a studio in Albiate, in the province of Monza and Brianza (MB) in Italy. His site describes him as a wedding photographer in Milan, Monza, Seregno, Brianza, Como Lake, Lugano and Switzerland, and among his published weddings are two in Ascona on the Swiss shore of Lake Maggiore. His style is unposed reportage, and every wedding is delivered in a wooden box of prints with a USB key.

A photographer who waits for moments

The portfolio page sets out his approach in a few short paragraphs. He calls the portfolio a small selection from many years spent photographing weddings, and describes it as "storie vere, non scatti costruiti, non sorrisi in posa" (real stories, not constructed shots, not posed smiles). Each image, he writes, is a fragment of something that really happened: an embrace, a glance, the afternoon light filtering through the curtains of a villa on the lake. None of the scenes were arranged; they happened, and someone was there with a camera.

The line that sums it up is "La fotografia nei matrimoni non costruisce momenti: li aspetta" (wedding photography does not construct moments, it waits for them). It works with the light that is there, with people as they are, and with the elegant, moving chaos that every wedding brings. The result is never predictable, he writes, and that is why it is worth looking at.

He is explicit about what he is not chasing: not technical perfection, not symmetry, not calibrated color. Instead, the truth of an instant, "che è sempre un pò imperfetta, un pò mossa, un pò troppo luminosa da un lato" (which is always a little imperfect, a little blurred, a little too bright on one side), just like the best memories. Couples who want polished, directed portraits should take that at face value. Couples who want their wedding shown as it felt will find it a clear statement of intent.

Weddings in Switzerland

The Ascona page is the one this listing links to. It shows the wedding of Ilaria and Sascha, "Un matrimonio estivo con cerimonia all'aperto sul suggestivo Lago Maggiore ad Ascona in Svizzera" (a summer wedding with an outdoor ceremony on Lake Maggiore at Ascona in Switzerland). The location is named as Park Hotel Delta. His note is dry: Ascona, the lake and a wedding day, so it would be hard to complain about the workplace. Even when the location is spectacular, he tries not to be too distracted by the view, because the best photographs often happen when nobody is thinking about the camera. That reportage, he says, is made of exactly those moments.

The site's recent posts also list a second lakeside wedding in Ascona, of Jasmine and Mauro. Together with Lugano and Switzerland in the list of areas he names, that shows a photographer who crosses the border for work in Ticino, even though his base and most of his published weddings are in Lombardy.

Other published weddings

The post navigation names weddings at Villa Borghi, at Villa Caroli Zanchi in Stezzano (Bergamo) for a couple married in Seregno, at Palazzo Reale in Milan and in Monticello Brianza. The Seregno page describes a young couple's wedding celebrated with many loved ones in a relaxed atmosphere, and adds that between preparations, ceremony, friends, toasts and party, small things keep happening that deserve a photograph. The post pages themselves carry only a short paragraph and a gallery, so the pictures do most of the talking.

What every wedding includes

The album page states what comes with every booking: "Ogni servizio fotografico viene consegnato con un cofanetto in legno personalizzato con una selezione di 50 stampe in formato cartolina e una chiavetta usb con tutte le immagini del matrimonio post prodotte e in alta risoluzione." In English: every wedding is delivered with a personalized wooden box holding a selection of 50 postcard-size prints, plus a USB key with all the wedding images, edited and in high resolution.

That is a useful standard. A couple get both printed pictures to hand around and the complete set of files, without paying extra for either.

Albums

Under the heading "SOLO LE FOTOGRAFIE STAMPATE DURANO PIU' DI UNA VITA" (only printed photographs last more than a lifetime), he argues that wedding pictures are too important to leave shut inside a cold computer. Beyond the photography itself, he offers traditional albums, boxes of single prints, and design albums with simple, essential lines, printed as books. The page does not give prices or formats for them. He presents these as ways to keep and show off the memories beyond the photo service itself, so a couple can decide after seeing the images whether the wooden box is enough or whether they want a bound album as well.

Contact

The studio is at via Grandi 6, Albiate (MB), Italy. The mobile number is listed as 3389115328, an Italian number; couples calling from Switzerland or elsewhere will need to add Italy's country code. The email is info@enricomantegazza.com. He is an Italian business, with the VAT number 02767970961 in the site footer.

What the site does not settle

The site is written in Italian and does not say whether he works in English or German. For couples who speak neither Italian nor a language he confirms, the first message should ask.

It publishes no prices, no packages and no hours of coverage, and it does not say how travel to Switzerland is charged or whether cross-border work carries any extra cost. It does not state a delivery time for the images or say whether a second photographer is available. Couples booking for a Swiss venue should also ask how invoicing and payment work for an Italian supplier, since the site gives no detail.

Who it suits

Enrico Mantegazza suits couples marrying in Ticino, and particularly on Lake Maggiore or around Lugano, who want honest, unposed reportage and are comfortable working with a photographer based across the border in Lombardy. The wooden box with 50 prints and the full set of edited files is a generous standard deliverable.

He suits less well couples who want formal, directed portraits or technically perfect images, which he says plainly he is not after, and couples who need prices or English confirmed before making contact.
