foto-huwi

Tap a star to rate

foto-huwi is the studio of photographer Michael Huwiler at Signalstrasse 17 in Rorschach, in the canton of St. Gallen. Its wedding service runs under the heading "Ein ganzer Tag in Bildern" (a whole day in pictures), and the page this listing links to is his blog archive of Appenzell weddings, which runs from 2014 to 2021 and shows how he works on the day.

The studio

foto-huwi describes itself as photography, video, graphics and coaching, and the menu shows a broad studio. On the business side there are staff portraits, product, advertising and industrial photography, film and motion, 360-degree virtual tours, real-estate photography, and events, trade fairs and photo booths, plus consulting and coaching. For private clients there are application portraits, passport photos to the biometric rules of all countries, studio and outdoor shoots, character portraits, courses, vouchers, and a shop for canvas prints and frames. The studio lists opening hours and directions, and offers online appointment booking.

The wedding offer

The wedding section of the menu has its own set of pages:

  • Ein ganzer Tag in Bildern: the whole-day wedding reportage.
  • 10 Gründe…: a page of ten reasons.
  • Tipps für die Hochzeitsplanung: wedding planning tips.
  • Preise und Angebote: prices and offers.
  • Wenns aus dem Rahmen fällt: for weddings that fall outside the usual frame.
  • Photobooth, Der Partyspass: the photo booth, "the party fun" to rent.
  • Einladungs-/Dankeskarten & Hochzeitsalben: invitation and thank-you cards, and wedding albums.
  • Referenzen (Blog): the wedding blog.

That structure is useful for a couple, and it is worth noting that the photo booth is not a sideline: his business menu lists events, trade fairs and photo booths, and a blog post describes a photo booth with complete branding for fairs and major events. For a wedding, the same equipment can run at the party while he photographs the day. In short, photography, a photo booth for the party, printed cards and an album can all come from the same studio, and the studio also offers graphic work, which fits the card design.

Appenzell weddings on the blog

The Appenzell archive is a run of wedding stories, each with a short introduction. Together they show the kind of days he photographs:

  • Laraina and Manuel (2014). Manuel wrote to book him more than a year ahead, asking whether he was free on 20.9.2014, before the venue was fixed and before he had even proposed.
  • Manuela and Pius (2015). A winter wedding in the Appenzellerland with deep snow and bright sun, the couple getting ready calmly at home. It had snowed heavily the day before, he notes, and two days later the landscape was green again, a reminder of how quickly conditions change for a winter date.
  • Melanie and Johann (2017). A wedding that started with an Alpenbitter. He writes that the Appenzellerland has won him over, with its natural scenery, living traditions and big celebrations.
  • Sandra and Pitsch (2017). A day of Scottish emotions, little rain and many tears, with a personal link through an old school friendship.
  • Martina and Mario (2017). Members of the Jodelchörli Mörschwil, for whom tradition and folk music are part of life. The couple shoot started near their home, after he had photographed them getting dressed.
  • Sabrina and Daniel (2018). He had already photographed their couple photos for the invitation cards, pregnancy photos and the bride's hen party; on the day, the groom waited nervously for his bride in Schlatt AI, and, as the title admits, the schedule slipped.
  • Joelle and Beni (2018). A day planned differently from most, starting at the edge of St. Gallen and ending in Appenzell.
  • Sonja and Fabian (2020). A leap-day wedding on 29 February in Appenzell, a date that meant a lot to them.
  • Ursina and Lukas (2021). A couple who, he writes, do not let their fun be spoiled easily; they held their wedding in the Covid period and made the most of the restrictions, and he calls it his first wedding run entirely on the certificate system.

Other wedding titles on the page mention a wedding at the Lokremise in Wil, a castle wedding on the "Wart am See," an open-air wedding at Schloss Weinstein, a couple who traveled by PostBus to St. Gallen, a wedding in the countryside with a couple's own tree, and a couple arriving by horse-drawn carriage. That range shows he works across Eastern Switzerland, not only in Appenzell.

The stories point to a photographer who covers the whole day, from getting dressed to the celebration, often starting with the couple shoot close to home, and who keeps working with couples before and after the wedding.

Beyond weddings

His business work shows up on the same page. One post describes an early-morning shoot for the Kronberg cable car, riding up at half past six to photograph sledging at sunrise for flyers and the website; others cover the OLMA fair, a trade-fair assignment and staff events. For a couple this matters mainly as a sign of range: the studio is used to working to a brief and on location in the Appenzell hills.

Contact

The studio is at Signalstrasse 17, 9400 Rorschach. The phone number is +41 79 370 80 96 and the email is michael@foto-huwi.ch. The menu also has a contact page, an online booking page for appointments and a customer reviews page (Kundenstimmen). One blog headline announces that foto-huwi is moving, so couples planning a studio visit should check the current address when they book.

What the linked page does not settle

The Appenzell archive does not show the prices themselves; they are on the separate "Preise und Angebote" page. It also does not state how many images a wedding includes, how long delivery takes, or what the albums and photo booth cost. The site is written in German, and it does not say whether he works in English. Couples from abroad should ask about language and about how the planning works at a distance.

Who it suits

foto-huwi suits couples marrying in Appenzell, St. Gallen or elsewhere in Eastern Switzerland who want a photographer who knows local traditions (yodeling choirs, winter weddings, Appenzeller celebrations) and who can also supply the photo booth, cards and album. The long blog record lets a couple see many complete wedding days before they write.

It suits less well couples who need English confirmed before booking, or who want a quick price comparison without opening a second page. Both are settled with one call or email.
