A VW bus specialist in Bern with a wedding offer

BUSVENTURE GmbH is a family business in Bern, at Hardeggerstrasse 18, that lives and breathes the Volkswagen bus. Its main trade is renting VW campers for holidays and running an online shop of camper accessories, but the site also has a whole menu section for weddings and events, and the homepage pitches a wedding drive in a classic VW Bulli as a distinctive, stylish way to celebrate the day. For a couple who want something more relaxed and characterful than a black limousine, and who like the idea of wedding photos with a vintage VW bus, it is worth a look.

The company describes itself as "ein Schweizer Familien Unternehmen" (a Swiss family business) and as a partner for everything to do with the VW Bulli. It says it draws on years of experience and is constantly out on the road in the Büssli, the Swiss nickname for the bus, and one customer review names Thomas as a first point of contact. The homepage claims "die grösste Flotte in Bern" (the largest fleet in Bern) of VW buses. Beyond rentals, the menu covers buying a bus, renting out your own bus through the company, a page on the history of the VW T models (Die T-Geschichte), media and jobs. The shop sells camper equipment it says staff have tested personally, from folding mattresses, mosquito nets and multiflex boards to solar kits, separating toilets and heaters, with free shipping from CHF 99.

The wedding and event offer

Under Events, the navigation offers "Hochzeitsfahrt & Eventbus Angebot" (wedding drive and event bus offer), a separate booking page for it, a page on the wedding and event vehicles, and pages for a Hochzeitsfahrt (wedding drive) and an Event & Show Bus. There is also an Eventfahrzeug (event vehicle) entry under the vehicle menu and an availability page.

The wedding pitch on the homepage sits under the heading OLDTIMER. It says a wedding drive in the iconic VW Bulli is a unique and stylish way to celebrate the most beautiful day of your life, "Mit ausreichend Platz für das Brautpaar" (with enough room for the bridal couple), and that it offers a special experience and "tolle Möglichkeiten für Erinnerungsfotos" (great opportunities for keepsake photos).

The vehicle menu lists a VW T1 Samba, a VW T2 Westfalia and four VW California versions: Deluxe, Premium, Beach and Standard. The homepage describes the Californias as the company's new VW T6.1 California camper vans for holidays, so they belong to the camping side of the business. The two older models are the classic Bullis, and the site files the wedding offer under Oldtimer, but the homepage does not spell out which specific vehicle is used for weddings; the wedding and event vehicle page is the place to check.

What the rental side says about service and insurance

The homepage sets out the general terms of its rentals in four short blocks. Maintenance is done by a franchised workshop ("Vertragswerkstatt"), with assistance in Western Europe. Insurance is Swiss, fully comprehensive ("Vollkasko versichert"), with assistance included and a low excess. Contact is personal: advice, a 24-hour emergency phone and a telephone hotline. It also mentions a 24/7 customer service during trips.

These points are written for holiday campers. The site does not say whether a wedding drive is self-drive or comes with a driver, and it does not say which of these terms apply to a wedding booking. A couple should ask both questions at the start, because they change the whole shape of the day: a driver means the couple can simply ride in the back, while self-drive means someone in the wedding party has to handle an old VW with its own quirks.

Prices and booking

The homepage shows no rental prices, but the rental menu includes a "Preise und Rabatte" (prices and discounts) page, a deposit page (Kaution), a page on pickup and return (Ab- und Rückgabe) and a directions page (Anfahrt). The wedding offer has its own booking page. Prices for the wedding drive are not shown on the homepage, so a couple should look at the wedding pages or ask for a quote.

The homepage says the company offers "wettbewerbsfähigen Preisen" (competitive prices). Shop prices are in Swiss francs, and the site shows a TWINT payment option in its checkout. Contact is by email to info@busventure.ch or by phone on 031 552 03 04 (a Bern number), and there is a contact form.

What customers say

The reviews on the homepage are all about camper holidays rather than weddings. Sandra Gerber praises the included coffee machine, Rolf Eng says the operators' experience is noticeable and gladly shared, Marco Habegger mentions friendly contact, quick replies and a clear handover, and Judith Sonderegger writes of three happy months with the Bulli in Eastern Europe. None of this speaks directly to a wedding, but it does describe a company that explains its vehicles carefully and answers quickly, which matters when the car is part of a timed schedule.

What the site does not settle

For a wedding, the open questions are these:

  • whether a driver is included or the couple drive themselves
  • which vehicle is used, and how many people it seats beyond the couple
  • whether the bus can be decorated, and who does it
  • the price, how long the booking runs, and whether the bus comes to the venue or is collected in Bern
  • what happens in bad weather or if the vehicle breaks down

The site is published in German, and it does not say whether English is spoken. For a couple writing from abroad, a short email in English with the date, the pickup point and the venues is a reasonable way to start.

Who it suits

BUSVENTURE suits a couple marrying in or around Bern who want a relaxed, retro look for the day, and who are happy with a VW bus rather than a formal limousine. It is also a natural fit for couples who plan a camper trip afterward, since the same company rents modern California campers for holidays. It suits less well a couple who want a formal chauffeured car with published wedding terms, or who need to move a large wedding party, because the site does not describe the wedding service in that much detail.
