A marketplace, not a rental company
DRIVAR is an online marketplace where owners of sports, luxury and classic cars offer them for rent, and where renters book them. Its Swiss site has a classic car rental section that names weddings as one of the uses, and it says it can deliver a vintage car "to the wedding, your hotel or the airport". It is important to be clear about what DRIVAR is. It does not own the cars: its FAQ describes it as "a digital car sharing platform on which vehicle owners can offer their sports car, luxury car or classic car and users can rent their dream car", with DRIVAR handling the rental and providing the insurance packages. The actual car comes from a private owner, a dealer or a rental company in its network.
The business behind it comes from the German supercar rental trade. The About page says that in 2009 the team founded Motion Drive, which it calls one of the biggest supercar rental companies in Europe, and that many supercar owners then wanted to earn money from their cars rather than only lose it, which led to DRIVAR connecting both sides. The team page lists a CEO, Phillipp Müller, a COO, Tim Hieber, a CTO and a small group of staff and interns, with Lara in customer service. The footer lists sister sites for Germany, Austria, the US, the UK, the UAE and Australia, and the contact address given is info@drivar.de.
Classic cars for a wedding
The classic car page is written for Switzerland. It says the portal lists a large number of vintage cars alongside its sports cars, each with its own charm, and it explicitly mentions using a classic "as a wedding car for astonished looks". Its filters cover location (Bregenz, Lake Constance, Luzern and Zurich are the options shown), body type (convertible, coupé, sedan, station wagon, SUV) and a price band starting above 1.000€.
On quality, the page says every classic car advertisement was "personally verified by us and are not mere 'fantasy vehicles'", that the team checks cars and their suppliers against internal quality criteria and that the vehicles are actually available at the stated location. It adds that "Even in conflict situations, the DRIVAR® team is available to help and advise", which is the main reason to book a privately owned classic through an intermediary rather than directly. The same page says the team has worked in exotic car rental in a leading position for over 8 years and knows that renting a classic car takes more than just a low price.
On locations, the page claims more than 20 vehicle locations in Switzerland, naming St. Gallen, Basel and Zurich, Zermatt and Lugano, and, as newer additions, Geneva and Bern. Where a region is not covered, or where a couple want the car brought to the wedding, their hotel or the airport, it says its logistics network can deliver, and that personal delivery extends throughout Europe.
What the About page promises
The About page gives six reasons to rent through DRIVAR. The ones that matter for a wedding are these: "all vehicles at DRIVAR have self-drive rental insurance and are approved as official rental vehicles"; DRIVAR remains a contact person before, during and after the rental for communication between renter and owner; and the team filters users in advance, turning away "dubious landlords or questionable customers". It also says the team maintains a worldwide network of rental companies, dealers and private owners and "can make almost any vehicle available at any location".
The wider menus show what else is on offer: sports cars from Aston Martin, Audi R8, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, McLaren, Corvette, Nissan GT-R and Ford Mustang; luxury cars from Bentley, BMW M, Maserati, Maybach, Range Rover, Rolls Royce, Mercedes G-Class, Mercedes AMG and Tesla; race cars, long-term rental and gift vouchers.
Tours and events
DRIVAR also runs guided sports car tours, limited to 25 vehicles with several groups driving at different speeds, and with the option of renting a DRIVAR car for the tour. The tour page lists routes including the German Alpine Road 2.0 (over 750 km), a Vosges tour (900 km) and the Route des Grandes Alpes from the French Alps to the Côte d'Azur, each with an all-inclusive fee covering hotels, meals and support. An older events page still describes a 2018 Nürburgring road tour. None of this is wedding-related, but it shows where the company's heart lies: in driving.
Contact
Customer service is by email to info@drivar.de or through the contact form, and the contact page says the team usually deals with requests "within a few hours". The site is available in English and German.
What the site does not settle
For a wedding, the gaps are significant. The classic car page shows no individual cars, no prices other than the filter band, and nothing about chauffeurs: everything it describes is self-drive rental. It does not say what the insurance covers or what excess applies, what deposit is needed, or what the cancellation terms are for a car rental (the cancellation scale on the tour page applies to tours). Because each car belongs to a different supplier, condition, decoration rules and handover arrangements will vary from car to car, and a couple should get all of them in writing before paying.
It is also worth noting that the classic page mixes its geography: one sentence speaks of cars listed "throughout Austria" on what is otherwise a Swiss page. The Swiss location list and delivery promise are what matter for a couple marrying in Switzerland, but they should confirm that the specific car they want is actually based in, or can be delivered to, the right place.
Who it suits
DRIVAR suits a couple who want a particular prestige or classic car that no local wedding car business offers, who are comfortable driving it themselves, and who value having an intermediary to verify the supplier and step in if something goes wrong. It suits less well a couple who want a chauffeur, a decorated car as part of a set wedding package, or a single local business they can visit. Destination couples may appreciate the English-language site and the delivery promise, but they should allow time for the back-and-forth that a marketplace booking involves.
