Pantheon Basel Classic Garage

Tap a star to rate

Pantheon Basel Classic Garage is the vintage car workshop inside Pantheon Basel, the car museum at Hofackerstrasse 72 in Muttenz, just outside Basel. Alongside sales, restoration of all makes, upholstery and radiator repairs, it rents out a small fleet of classic cars, with or without a chauffeur, and it publishes its full price list and cancellation terms on one page. For a couple marrying in the Basel area, that openness is the main draw: you can price a wedding car here before you write a single email.

The building and the garage

Pantheon Basel is more than a garage. The site's navigation shows a museum with a permanent exhibition and special shows (British sports cars at the moment), a restaurant with a daily menu and Sunday menu, event spaces for hire, guided tours and catering. The museum, the restaurant and the garage each have their own phone line and email address. The restaurant is run by Brüderli Gastronomie, which also handles events. The garage itself lists sales, rentals, restoration of all makes, a spring service, an upholstery shop and radiator and tank repairs.

The rental page opens with a direct pitch to couples: "Verleihen Sie Ihrer Hochzeit speziellen Glanz" (give your wedding a special shine). It adds that the cars are well cared for and ready to start, and that they can be decorated to suit the occasion.

The cars

The page lists these vehicles for rent:

  • Bentley Mark VI, 1947, the formal choice, available self-drive or with a chauffeur
  • Fiat Nuova 500, 1966, the small, round car the page nicknames the "Knutschkugel", self-drive
  • Citroën 2CV Charleston, 1983, the "Döschwo", self-drive
  • Chevrolet with 9 seats, offered only with a chauffeur (the heading says 1926, the detail line gives the year as 1928)
  • utility vehicles for moving things rather than people: a Mercedes-Benz 316 CDI van, a Peugeot car transporter and a trailer

For a wedding the useful split is simple. The Fiat and the 2CV suit a couple on their own, the Bentley works as a bridal car either way, and the 9-seat Chevrolet can carry the couple with parents or witnesses. The vans and trailer are there if someone needs to move decorations or equipment to a venue.

What it costs

The prices, in francs and including VAT, are set out in a table.

Self-drive: the Fiat 500 and the 2CV each cost 250 for half a day with 100 km, 300 for a full day with 150 km, and 200 for each additional day with 100 km. The Bentley costs 500 for half a day, 800 for a full day and 400 for an additional day, with the same kilometer allowances. Extra kilometers cost 1 franc each on all three.

With a chauffeur: the Bentley and the Chevrolet each cost 450 for 2 hours and 150 for every additional hour. You name the pickup point, and the chauffeur drives you and your party to the destination. The time is counted, in the page's words, "ab Abfahrt im Pantheon Basel bis zur Rückkehr dorthin", from departure at Pantheon Basel until the return there, so a venue far from Muttenz adds hours on both ends.

Utility vehicles: the van and the car transporter cost 300 a day with 150 km and 250 for an additional day, and the trailer 250 and 200, with extra kilometers at 1 franc.

Flowers on the car

Decoration is handled by Mint Design, a flower boutique in Münchenstein, and the page names Sandra Brand-Sebeseri there as the person who advises on custom designs. The page describes the standard style as romantic pastel shades with seasonal flowers. Set options are priced:

  • Bentley: arrangement on the hood 165, arrangement with ribbons and flowers at the front 235, garland over the hood 255
  • Fiat: ribbons and flowers 65, garland on the bumper 195

Fitting the decoration at Pantheon costs a flat 35 francs; fitting it at Mint Design is free. Mint Design's costs are billed through the garage and, like the rental, must be paid before the car is collected. The page carries a safety note that with the decoration the car can be driven "max. 80 km" and that all liability is declined. The note does not say whether that means distance or speed, so ask before planning a route with a long motorway leg.

Booking and cancellation

Booking runs through a form on the same page. You choose a date, a duration (morning, afternoon, a full day or several days), the car, with or without chauffeur, the exact pickup and destination addresses with times, and whether you want flowers. There is a free text field for special requests, and you must accept the general rental terms, which are linked from the form. The garage can also be reached by phone at +41 61 466 40 60 or at garage@pantheonbasel.ch.

Cancellation is free up to 14 days before the rental date. Between 7 and 14 days, 50% of the amount is due, and inside 7 days the full amount.

What the page leaves open

The rental page is in German and says nothing about English. It publishes no deposit rule, no minimum age or license requirement for self-drive, and no lead time for bookings; check the linked general rental terms or ask. Insurance and damage liability are not spelled out on the page itself. It does not say how guests or couples reach Muttenz, whether there is parking, or how far the chauffeured cars will travel, although the hourly pricing from Pantheon and back sets its own practical limit. The page also does not say whether a chauffeured car waits during a ceremony, which matters when every hour is billed.

Who it suits

Pantheon Basel suits a couple marrying in or around Basel who want a real vintage car with transparent pricing, and who like the idea of the car coming from a working classic garage attached to a museum. A short chauffeured Bentley transfer between a church and a reception nearby is easy to price from the table, and the self-drive Fiat or 2CV gives a relaxed couple a characterful car for a whole day.

It suits less well a wedding far from Muttenz, where chauffeured hours pile up, or a couple who need an English-language booking process spelled out on the site. The fleet is also small: one Bentley, one Chevrolet and two small classics, so each date can go to only a handful of couples.
