The Mira View

Golf Gerre Losone, the club whose clubhouse is The Mira View, doesn't let just anyone tee off. Its own course page spells out the rule: guests are welcome "with a handicap or at least PR," but they have to belong to a recognised golf club and show their club's membership card or a written certificate, and anyone in handicap category IV, 37.0 to 54.0, can only play accompanied by another player with a handicap of 30.0 or better. None of that touches the restaurant. The Mira View's own page invites "all indulgence lovers, with or without golf clubs," and the terrace, the wine cellar and the wedding package are all open to a couple who has never held a driver. That split, a fairway you need credentials to walk and a dining room you don't, is what "clubhouse restaurant" actually means here, not a line of scenery copy.

2 venues, one wedding page

The Mira View doesn't get its own dedicated wedding page. It shares one with Scharmoin, a separate Vista Group restaurant in Lenzerheide, a mountain resort in canton Graubünden: "Say 'I do' at The Mira View or Scharmoin," the page opens, before splitting into a section for each. For The Mira View, the pitch is specific: "you can have not only your wedding reception here, but also the ceremony," and "we can arrange weddings with up to 120 people." The brochure that backs that figure up, a 2-page PDF dated to September 2023, breaks the 120 into 2 separate configurations rather than one number: 120 seats indoors, or 120 outdoors, a fact the web page's plain "up to 120" doesn't spell out. It also confirms the venue can be booked exclusively, that tables come round or square, and that there's room to dance. Scharmoin's own half of the same page tops out at 150 people, on the first floor of its Grill@Scharmoin room, a different Vista property this write-up doesn't cover further, since it's a different venue in a different canton with its own product to describe.

The course behind the clubhouse

The golf itself is a real, specific course, not a backdrop. Golf Gerre Losone is an 18-hole championship layout, par 72, measuring 6,309 metres from its longest tees, laid out in flat terrain between the Valle Maggia and the Centovalli, a couple of drives from Lake Maggiore. It was commissioned by the Patriziato di Losone, the local patrician corporation that owns the land, which in 1999 gave the design and construction contract to Peter Harradine, a Ticino-raised architect whose firm, Harradine Golf, was founded in 1929 by his father Don Harradine and has since designed, built or reworked more than 200 courses worldwide, over 160 of them with Peter Harradine personally involved. Harradine himself has lived in Dubai for 35 years, but the course closest to his own upbringing is the one behind The Mira View's terrace. His own stated approach, quoted on the club's site, treats a golf course as something that has to fit its ground rather than dominate it: "building a golf course is comparable to a heart transplant, the location must not reject the golf course," and "golf should always be fun, not hard work."

3 menus from a named chef, one dessert

The wedding brochure names the kitchen's own author: Filipe Pina, described as the restaurant's long-standing chef, builds the wedding menu with the couple and hands dessert to an unnamed in-house pastry chef. The brochure sets out 3 sample menus rather than one fixed offer, each running from a starter through a risotto or pasta course to a main and a shared closing dessert. The first runs from crispy calamari with guacamole and chickpea pâté through a Carnaroli risotto with a light smoked note, then Irish beef "56°" roastbeef with cauliflower purée and hollandaise. The second opens with a salmon gravlax and beetroot jelly, moves through orecchiette with a broad-bean velouté and toasted almonds, then an Angus beef fillet in a Ticino Merlot sauce. The third starts with a truffle-scented beef tartare, a lime-essence risotto with scallop and red prawn ragù, then veal medallions cooked sous vide with roasted garden vegetables. All 3 end the same way, with a wedding cake, and none of the 3 carries a printed price anywhere in the document.

The brochure's own fact panel answers most of the practical questions directly, though not always consistently. Its Italian version states there's no fireworks display option; its German version, the same document, same date, same layout, says the opposite, that a fireworks display is possible. Neither language resolves the conflict, so this write-up doesn't pick a side either: ask before assuming either way. On season, the panel gives a window running from March to December, with a separate note that the venue is "open all year round for events," a pairing the brochure doesn't explain further. What the panel is clear about is that a ceremony, not just a reception, can be held on site.

The English wedding page links no brochure at all

The wedding page itself exists in 4 full languages, English, German, Italian and French, each at its own URL, each carrying the same copy about the golf course, the 120-guest figure and the wine cellar. What doesn't carry across evenly is the paperwork behind it. The German and Italian versions of the page each link 3 downloadable wedding brochures, one for The Mira View specifically, one for the group's Ascona restaurants al Pontile and Piazza, and one general Vista brochure. The English and French versions link none of the 3, despite the page around them reading as a complete translation rather than a stub. A couple planning in English, exactly this tenant's own reader, following the English site's own wedding page to the end, finds no document to download at all; the same couple switching the page to German or Italian gets 3.

Where the wedding party sleeps

The Mira View's own hotel partner, Vista Lakefront Boutique Hotel, sits on the Ascona lakefront rather than at the golf course itself. The wedding page's stated gift is a free night there for the couple, plus discounted room rates for guests booking from 2 nights. The hotel has 7 room categories in total, described as garden-view and lake-view rooms and suites, with no separate wedding-block or adjoining-rooms product mentioned anywhere on the domain. If that's not enough space for a travelling guest list, Vista's own reception team says it will help arrange other accommodation rather than turning the request away, which matters for a foreign wedding party without a fallback hotel of its own in mind.

Swiss law makes a marriage legally binding only when a civil registrar performs it, in a location the canton has approved. The Mira View's own pages, in any of its 4 languages, never claim that approval for its terrace or its dining room, so a couple wanting the legal act itself to happen on site, rather than the celebration around it, should check directly with Losone's own commune or Ticino's cantonal civil registry office.

What backs up The Mira View's own claims

The Mira View carries a Swiss Location Award from 2023, with a stated score of 8.9 out of 10, repeated identically on both the restaurant's own page and the wedding page. Its brochure adds a second claim on top of that one: that "eventlokale.ch," a Swiss venue-listing site, considers it among the country's most beautiful wedding locations, a line that appears, translated, in both the Italian and German brochures. That's the operator's own citation of a third party rather than something this write-up checked against eventlokale.ch directly, worth knowing before repeating it as settled fact. What's easier to check is the setting itself: a working, membership-gated golf course with real green fairways running past the terrace, a kitchen with a named chef and 3 real menus behind it, and a capacity that tops out at 120 whichever way you configure the room. For a couple who wants a golf-holiday wedding weekend in Ticino rather than a lakefront hotel ballroom, that's a specific, unusual thing to book, not a generic view with a different name on the door.
