Alexandra Wellenzohn

Tap a star to rate

Alexandra Wellenzohn is a tailoring atelier at Ringstrasse 18 in Chur, run by the tailor whose name it carries. Its wedding page covers both halves of the couple: alterations and custom outfits for the bride, made-to-measure suits and shirts for the groom, and a selection of bridal accessories. The rest of the business is made-to-measure fashion for women and men, jeans, corporate clothing, color and style advice, alterations and sewing courses.

The wedding page opens by saying it is an honor to accompany couples on their big day, that the atelier alters "unzählige Hochzeitskleider" (countless wedding dresses) year after year, and that with a made-to-measure suit the groom is by no means left in the bride's shadow.

For the bride

The bridal section is headed "Für einen Tag Prinzessin sein" (a princess for a day). It starts from a practical point: whether the dress was bought in a bridal shop or on the internet, it almost always needs smaller or larger changes before it fits perfectly. The atelier offers to take on those alterations in a stylish, calm atmosphere, taking plenty of time for the bride's wishes and bringing its experience to the fitting.

That makes it relevant to a bride who buys her dress abroad or online and needs a tailor in Switzerland to finish it. The page does not name brands or limit the kind of dress it will work on.

For a bride who wants something of her own, the page adds: "Weisser Hosenanzug oder kleines Weisses", a white trouser suit or a little white dress. On request, the atelier creates an exclusive wedding outfit made exactly to her ideas. A white trouser suit is a natural choice for a civil ceremony, and the atelier's broader made-to-measure work for women stands behind that offer. The contact page says the same from the other side: whether a one-off piece for a special occasion or "das Traumkleid für die eigene Hochzeit" (the dream dress for your own wedding), fashion made to the client's wishes is what the atelier does.

For the groom

The groom's section, "What a man!", covers the details that a suit needs on the day: the right trouser length, shirt cuffs visible under the jacket, and a made-to-measure shirt in a color matched to the bride's dress. The page's point is that on the wedding day everything, at least in the clothing, should be coordinated down to the smallest detail.

The atelier also offers a full made-to-measure suit, and the page states the process plainly: "In nur zwei Terminen", in just 2 appointments, the groom gets a perfectly fitting suit to match his style and the bride's dress. For a couple from abroad, 2 appointments is a useful number to plan a trip around, though the page does not say how far apart they need to be.

Accessories

The accessories section, "Der Zauber steckt immer im Detail" (the magic is always in the detail), lists veils, jewelry and hair jewelry, and gloves. The page says the atelier has a large selection of accessories to give the wedding outfit its individual touch. So a bride having her dress altered here can choose the veil and accessories at the same fittings.

What couples say

The wedding page shows 2 short testimonials. One couple thanks Alexandra for the advice and the suits. Another thanks her for putting the suit together, for being there before the ceremony and for hoping with them for no rain, and writes that she was part of their wedding day. A testimonial on the services page thanks the atelier for the expert alteration of a wedding dress.

Other services

The services page, headed "Fashion Up", lists:

  • Color and style advice. A color analysis that ends with a day makeup matched to the client's type, and a style analysis with written documentation to take home. A personal fabric color pass or color fan can be bought at the atelier.
  • Wardrobe planning. Reorganizing an existing wardrobe by type, color and fashion, with new combinations.
  • Shopping assistance. Accompanying clients in fashion stores to choose clothes that suit them.
  • Alterations. Reworking pieces that no longer fit, in the spirit of recycling and upcycling.
  • Sewing courses. In small groups of at most 4 to 5 people, for beginners and advanced sewers. The next course listed runs every Thursday in January from 8.30 to 11.30, 18 lessons for Fr. 460.
  • Gift vouchers. Collected free at the atelier, or sent by post for CHF 10 extra.

The atelier also makes corporate clothing for companies, clubs and associations, with a process of consultation at the atelier, an offer, measuring, production and a final fitting.

Visiting and booking

The atelier is at Ringstrasse 18, 7000 Chur. Opening hours are Tuesday to Thursday, 09.00 to 11.00 and 14.00 to 17.00. The site says the atelier can be reached by phone during usual business hours and that appointments for made-to-measure clothing are also possible outside the opening hours. Contact is by phone (+41 81 515 70 79), email (info@alexandrawellenzohn.ch) or the contact form.

What the site does not settle

  • Prices. The site links a price list (Preisliste), but no wedding prices appear on the wedding page. A couple should check the price list or ask for a quote.
  • Lead time. The site does not say how early to bring a dress for alterations or how long a made-to-measure suit takes between the 2 appointments.
  • Language. The site is in German only, and it does not say whether consultations can be held in English.
  • Short opening hours. The atelier is open three days a week. For couples traveling in, the offer of appointments outside opening hours for made-to-measure work is the useful line, and it is worth asking whether it also applies to bridal alterations.

Who it suits

Alexandra Wellenzohn suits a couple marrying in or around Chur, or a bride with a dress bought elsewhere who needs it altered in Switzerland, and a groom who wants a made-to-measure suit without many fittings. The combination of dress alterations, groom's suit, shirt and accessories in one atelier makes it easy to coordinate the couple's outfits. The caveats are the German-only site, the limited opening days and the unpublished lead times, which matter most for a couple planning fittings from abroad.
