White Bride

Tap a star to rate

White Bride is a bridal store and tailoring atelier at Herrengasse 2 in Rapperswil (canton of St. Gallen), run by its owner, Aurica. Its concept is the "Zweiteiler", the two-piece wedding dress: the store sells modern multi-piece bridal and occasion dresses that can be combined freely, so a bride puts together her own look rather than choosing one fixed gown. Next to the store, the atelier alters wedding dresses, including dresses bought elsewhere, and makes dresses to order. The services page publishes a price for each service.

Who runs it

Aurica introduces herself on the About page as a trained clothing designer (gelernte Bekleidungsgestalterin) and a qualified business economist. She writes that she knew early on she wanted to run her own business, and that she fell for the wedding world when she met it as a seamstress. On the homepage she also describes herself as a trained ladies' tailor. A customer review on the atelier page gives her full name as Aurica Hofmann.

The About page states the brand's three values as uniqueness, quality and sustainability, and says the modern multi-piece dresses are aimed at the fashion-conscious, bold bride. Part of the idea is that the bride helps design her own dress, and the page asks why the perfect dress should be worn only once: it should stay with you. On sustainability, it says all her products are made either in Europe or in her own atelier in Rapperswil's old town.

The consultation

The bridal consultation is private. The services page says the store belongs to you exclusively during your appointment, so you can try on, combine and decide in peace. A first consultation takes about two hours and can run to a maximum of 2.5 hours. It costs CHF 25 per half hour, and it is by appointment only. The homepage puts personal advice first ("Persönliche Beratung steht bei mir an erster Stelle") and says the bride is at the center, since the dress should reflect her personality; the services page promises honest advice drawn from experience.

The site adds a short list of appointment tips. Bring no more than two companions, since too many opinions can overload the fitting. Do not bring food or drink, to keep the dresses, fabrics and shop in perfect condition; water is provided. Arrive on time, ideally in simple, skin-colored underwear. And cancel at least 24 hours ahead: appointments not canceled in time are charged a CHF 50 cancellation fee.

Alterations

The atelier specializes in individual wedding dress alterations, and the homepage says plainly, "Ich ändere auch Fremdkleider": she also alters dresses bought elsewhere. The first alteration step is a pinning appointment (Abstecktermin), which the site says ideally takes place about 8 to 10 weeks before the wedding. The dress is pinned to your figure, the changes are discussed, and you then receive an individual cost estimate. Alterations are charged by the hour according to the actual work involved. The site warns that her alteration appointments are well booked, so a binding appointment is needed and should be secured early.

If you are unsure what is possible, you can book an alteration consultation first. It lasts at most 30 minutes, costs CHF 50, and gives a first estimate of the work involved and the expected cost. If you go ahead, the next step is the pinning appointment.

The atelier page says the aim covers length, fit and individual changes, so that the finished dress feels entirely like yours rather than simply well fitted. A review there from a bride named Stefanie describes what that can look like. She was looking for a simple dress that felt right and had not found it. Aurica listened, made suggestions and showed her how the dress would look after the changes, then cut off the train, simplified the cut and even made a veil from the fabric. It is one review, but it shows the kind of reworking the atelier takes on, well beyond taking in a seam.

Made to measure and embroidery

Under the heading "Nicht ab Stange" (not off the rack), the atelier offers to design a bridal or occasion dress with you: advice on cut, shape and color, help choosing materials, and production in the atelier. New pieces are charged at CHF 120 per hour, excluding materials.

Veils and other bridal accessories can be embroidered with your initials, your wedding date or a personal word. Embroidery is charged according to the work involved.

Opening hours and contact

The services page lists opening hours: closed on Monday, Tuesday to Friday 14 to 18, Saturday 10 to 16. Consultations and fittings are by appointment, and appointments outside opening hours can be arranged. Contact is by email to info@whitebride.ch, by phone on +41 76 463 03 24, or through the contact form, which asks for your wedding date (required), the type of appointment, dress size, budget and a message. After sending, the site says you will hear back within 48 hours.

The homepage also has sections for the labels the store carries and for recommendations of regional wedding professionals, though the labels are not named in text.

For couples from abroad

The site is in German, and it does not say whether consultations can be held in English. It gives the address in Rapperswil's old town but no directions, parking or public transport information. For a bride living abroad, the 8 to 10 week pinning timeline matters: alterations need at least one visit in the final two months, so plan travel around it.

What the site does not settle

  • Prices of the dresses in the store. Services are priced; the dresses themselves are not.
  • The names of the labels carried.
  • How long a made-to-measure dress takes, and how many fittings it needs.
  • Payment terms and deposits.
  • Languages spoken.

Who it suits

White Bride suits a bride who likes the idea of a separates-based dress she helps put together, and who values knowing in advance what consultations and alterations cost. The alteration service is equally useful to brides who bought their dress somewhere else, and the made-to-measure option covers the bride who cannot find what she wants ready-made.

The caveats are the paid consultation (CHF 25 per half hour), the German-only site and the need to book alteration slots early. Couples from abroad should ask about language when they first write.
