A dance school that comes to you

danceup! Tanzschule Zürich is the dance school of Titus Capaul, a couple-dance teacher with a federal certificate who founded it in 1995. He calls it "die fliegende Tanzschule" (the flying dance school): you can book courses or private lessons for almost any time and place, and the school comes to you rather than the other way round. Alongside that, it has course rooms near Goldbrunnenplatz in Zurich-Wiedikon. Wedding dances are a central part of the offer, with short courses, private lessons and advice on special dance wishes for the wedding day.

The site is written in German and does not say whether lessons are given in English. For a couple from abroad, that is the first thing to ask.

What the wedding course covers

The wedding page opens with two questions: what will you dance at your wedding, and where do you learn the wedding waltz the easiest way? The answer is a short course that teaches the most important steps for your wedding party in the shortest possible time, and the page describes it step by step.

You start with the Foxtrot, as an easy entry, which the page calls the most danced of all dances. Then you rehearse the wedding dance itself with the Viennese Waltz. To recover from all the turning, a little etiquette for the dance floor and the wedding is part of the lesson. Once you feel comfortable, you are shown how to walk onto the floor elegantly at your wedding and open the dancing with a small bow and the wedding waltz. Along the way you get general tips on shoes, the wedding dress and so on.

The page also lists the formats around it: short courses for wedding dances, private lessons for wedding dances, beginner courses in current couple dances, private lessons for current couple dances, hobby courses and private lessons for advanced dancers, private courses to your own wishes, short courses and dance entertainment for dance events, and dance holidays in Italy. It invites people who want to refresh steps they once learned, as well as beginners, and asks couples to reserve their wedding dance course early.

Private lessons and the price

The wedding courses can be booked as a subscription of private lessons, either at your home or in the school's course rooms. The current price shown is "5er-Abo Fr. 540.-" for private lessons for wedding couples, a pack of 5. New wedding courses are announced from June 2026, new beginner courses from September 2026, and dance holidays on Lago Maggiore from September 2026. Single lessons and vouchers are available for all courses and private lessons.

The team page gives a sense of how flexible this is. It suggests a private lesson in your own four walls, or inviting neighbors and friends along for a dance followed by brunch. It mentions a preparation course for the whole wedding family in Effretikon, and, for a wedding party, teaching a Polka, Saturday Night Fever, Letkis, Twist and a kissing waltz to get guests going. The school also offers dance entertainment at parties. For a couple who wants their families involved, or a teacher at the celebration itself, these are the lines to point to when you ask.

The teacher

Titus Capaul writes that he first trained as a TV and radio electronics technician before a girlfriend "dragged" him to a dance school. He worked through all the courses, assisted in classes, trained as a dance teacher with swiss dance, and after 6 years of practice in a well-known dance school founded his own in 1995. His key dates, as listed on the team page:

  • 1992 diploma as a swiss dance teacher
  • 1998 further training in teaching methods
  • 1999 Member Standard IDTA (Highly Commended)
  • 2000 trainer with federal certificate (SVEB II)
  • 2002 president of the Swiss dance teachers' association
  • 2003 swiss dance examiner in leading, social dance and professional practice
  • 2015 Intermediate Diploma in Spiraldynamik
  • 2015 couple-dance teacher with federal certificate

The motto on both the wedding and team pages is that the customer is king: you decide what, when and where you learn, at what pace and to your own music. The team page also suggests a voucher as a present for a spouse, and mentions a dance evening called "danceup! night" for simply keeping up your dancing after the course.

Where lessons take place

The site lists four course venues, all reached by tram 9 or 14. The Kirchgemeindehaus Im Gut at Burstwiesenstrasse 44 is reached via the Heuried stop, with some parking spaces and a blue zone; the course takes place in the large hall. The Bethaus Wiedikon at Schlossgasse 10 is at the Schmiede Wiedikon stop, with only a few parking spaces. The Seniorama im Tiergarten at Sieberstrasse 10 is reached via Goldbrunnenplatz and bus 32 to Friesenberg Station, with a rear entrance where you have to wait because the door only opens from inside. The Kirchgemeindehaus Wiedikon at Bühlstrasse 11 is a walk from Goldbrunnenplatz, with few parking spaces and a strict no-parking zone in front of the Bühl school. The office is at Pflugstrasse 20 in 8952 Schlieren.

Contact

The page asks couples to request the current course program or to call from 10 o'clock on 044 450 33 44. The mobile number is +41 79 432 44 33 and the email is given as info (at) danceup.ch. For a couple abroad, email avoids the problem of time zones.

What the site leaves open

Apart from the private-lesson pack, the site gives no prices: not for the short wedding courses, home visits, the family course or dance entertainment at a wedding. It does not give dates or a format for the wedding courses beyond the note that new ones start from June 2026, does not say whether travel costs apply for lessons at home, and does not state a teaching language. It shows no testimonials or videos of past couples.

Who it suits

danceup! suits couples in the Zurich area who want a patient, highly qualified teacher, a clear wedding syllabus and the option of learning at home, perhaps with family and friends. The idea of a teacher who also brings party dances to the wedding is a real plus. The caveats are a German-only site, a single named teacher whose availability has to be checked, and course venues in church halls rather than a dedicated studio.
