Dang de toi

Tap a star to rate

Dang de toi is the studio of Linh (Khánh Linh Đặng), a live wedding painter based in Lausanne who paints a wedding on canvas while it happens. She works on site in oils during the event, then finishes the canvas in her studio and delivers it as an heirloom piece. She also paints live watercolor portraits of guests as a wedding favor, and makes commissioned vow artwork in calligraphy and watercolor. The whole site is in English, the prices are published in Swiss francs, and she describes her service as tailored to high-end destination weddings across Europe, which makes this one of the easier suppliers in its field for a couple planning from abroad.

The Live Painting Service

The centerpiece is live wedding painting: Linh sets up at the venue and paints a scene from the ceremony or the celebration from start to finish as the event unfolds. The homepage calls it "mesmerizing to watch" and frames it as an old practice: "Painting weddings is a tradition upheld by the great masters, and now you get to experience this timeless art form too." The painting process becomes part of the entertainment, since guests can watch the canvas develop over the day.

The pricing page says each piece is painted on site "and finished meticulously in my studio," so the canvas a couple takes home is not exactly the one they saw at the reception; it gets further studio hours before varnishing. The portfolio page says its canvases are painted in oils and acrylics in real time, and that the scenes range from the first dance to the ceremony. The site's argument for a painting over a photograph is that it records the mood and feeling of the moment rather than a frozen frame.

Canvas Sizes and Pricing

Three canvas sizes are published, each with a fixed price. Every one includes a consultation session before the wedding, 5+ hours at the wedding, professional oil paints and a varnish to protect and seal the canvas.

  • Impressions, 40 x 50cm, 3750 CHF. Only the newlyweds and the scenery; the couple are the only portraiture in the painting. Up to 5 hours of studio refinement.
  • Elegance, 50 x 60cm, 4000 CHF. The couple and scenery, with other guests present in the picture but without faces. Up to 10 hours of studio refinement.
  • Legacy, 60 x 80cm, 4500 CHF. The couple plus people the couple chooses to have painted, maximum 6. Up to 20 hours of studio refinement.

The pricing page also carries a visual guide showing each size hung in a living room, over a fireplace, in a dining room and above a bed, which is a practical help when choosing between formats.

Travel, Accommodation and the Fine Print

For a couple marrying away from Lausanne, the pricing page's fine print matters as much as the headline price. For destination weddings more than 3 hours of travel from Lausanne, Linh requires 1–3 nights of accommodation at or near the venue, depending on distance, and for those events an assistant joins her to help with materials and setup. Travel is arranged as a round trip by car, train or flight to the chosen European venue, and a travel stipend covers meals, time in transit and related expenses. Shipping of the finished painting is not included for couples residing outside Switzerland, and any customs taxes are the client's responsibility. For a couple living abroad, that means the final bill will be the canvas price plus travel, accommodation, the stipend and shipping home.

The Guest Portrait Service

The second service is live watercolor guest portraits. The homepage describes these as "elegant, live watercolor fashion portraits" that work as a wedding favor and guest experience, and says they are also offered for private events, corporate entertainment and brand activations. Each guest leaves with a painted portrait of themselves, which gives the reception an activity as well as a take-home keepsake. The site does not publish a price for guest portraits or say how long each portrait takes.

Vow Artwork

The third service is a commissioned piece in which a couple's vows are calligraphed into a watercolor composition inspired by their wedding landscape, flowers and atmosphere. The site says it is subtly inspired by the tradition of the Ketubah. Two formats are listed, both on 300 g/m² fine art paper:

  • The Vow, 36 × 51 cm, 850 CHF, described as ideal for elopements and smaller ceremonies.
  • The Promise, 46 × 61 cm, 1100 CHF, a larger piece for statement display.

The couple sends their final vows with images of the setting (landscape, florals, mood and color palette), and delivery is within 1 month of receiving those. The page says the piece can be delivered ahead of the wedding, to be displayed during the celebration, or afterwards as a keepsake. This is studio work, so it does not depend on Linh traveling to the venue.

Who Linh Is

The about page says Linh is self-taught, with a background in political science, and calls her "the first live wedding painter to establish this fine art service in Switzerland since 2023." She is fluent in French, English and Vietnamese, understands a bit of German and is learning Italian. The studio name is a French pun joining her name with "dingue de toi," meaning "crazy for you."

The homepage names the destinations she covers, from Lake Como, the Swiss Alps, the Opera House in Paris and the vineyards of Tuscany to the cliffs of Santorini, the castles of Scotland, the Amalfi Coast, the French Riviera and Prague. Those are presented as places she will travel to, not as a list of past commissions. The testimonials on the homepage do name real events: a live painting given to a bride and groom at Château de la Sarraz in Vaud, a live painting at Château de la Tour in Gouvieux, France, and watercolor guest portraits at Château de Vuissens in the Fribourg and Vaud area.

How to Book

The site's route in is a "Check My Availability" button and a "Schedule your Consultation" link, and every canvas package includes a consultation before the wedding to agree what scene to paint and at which size. The site repeats that Linh takes "a limited number of luxury live events each year" and that "early booking is recommended." The vow artwork page likewise says availability is limited so each piece gets full attention.

What the Site Does Not Settle

The site publishes no availability calendar and no booking lead time, so the date is the first thing to ask about. There is no published deposit or payment schedule and no cancellation policy. The guest portrait service has no price and no stated rate of portraits per hour, which matters for a large guest list. The travel stipend is described but not priced, so a couple outside Switzerland should ask for the full travel estimate alongside the canvas price. The site also does not say how weather or an outdoor ceremony is handled when she paints on site.

Who It Suits

This suits couples who want an artwork rather than another act, and who have the budget for a fine art commission on top of photography. It fits Suisse romande weddings especially well, since she is based in Lausanne and works in French and English, and it fits destination weddings around Europe as long as the couple budgets for her travel and accommodation. Couples marrying in German-speaking Switzerland should note that she describes her German as limited, though an English-speaking wedding will not notice. Couples who want pure crowd entertainment for a large guest list are better served by the guest portraits than by the canvas, which is a slow, quiet piece of work built around the two of them.
