An event house on the Vullierens estate
Portes des Iris is an event venue on the estate of Château de Vullierens, at Route de Cottens 1 in Vullierens, near Morges in the canton of Vaud. The venue says it is "ideally located between Lausanne and Geneva" and sits "In the heart of Château de Vullierens estate and the most spectacular gardens in Switzerland", which is the gardens' own claim and the reason most couples will come. It hosts corporate events, conferences, private parties and weddings, and weddings have their own set of pages: dream weddings, ceremonies, fall and winter weddings, a wedding hall, destination weddings and a wedding planner.
The estate behind it has a long history. The site describes it as "A private estate that has been in the same family for 700 years", kept up through what it calls a long-term family commitment to heritage conservation by modern means and without subsidies. Portes des Iris is the events business on that estate; it is not a hotel.
Space and capacity
The venue states its capacity plainly. The building has 6 rooms with a total capacity of 700 seated guests, 2 terraces that can take up to 1600 people, and direct access to the gardens. The venue says a small group or a large assembly can be accommodated, and its wedding hall page promises the right reception room for the banquet and the aperitif "whatever the number of guests you're inviting".
What the home page does not give is the size of each room, so a couple with a small guest list and a couple with a very large one will both need to ask which room fits. There is a separate page on the rooms, and a VIP space called La Table Secrète du Château, which the venue presents as an out-of-the-ordinary room for exceptional events.
The wedding offer
Ceremonies are part of the offer. The venue calls itself "An unparalleled location for your civil, religious or secular wedding ceremony", with a decor that works outside or inside. Whether a civil ceremony there is conducted by the registry office or is a symbolic one is a question for the venue.
There is also a Destination Wedding page, pitched with the line "Extraordinary starts here", which shows the venue expects couples who travel in for the day. Beyond weddings, the same team runs private parties for birthdays, anniversaries and family reunions, conferences with an all-inclusive package, and team-building days with rallies, cooking classes and group drumming, so it is used to groups of every size and format.
The most useful line for a couple planning from abroad is the planner: "An unparalleled wedding planner service is included to ensure that every moment is perfect for you and your guests." The French version describes it as a team of enthusiasts included in the offer. The pages do not spell out what the planner does, from choosing suppliers to running the day, so ask for the scope in writing.
Catering goes through what the site calls exclusive caterers, with their own page. The home page does not name them, and the word exclusive suggests a couple chooses from the venue's list rather than bringing their own; confirm that before assuming either way.
Wine, gardens and the seasons
The estate makes its own wine. The venue lists 6 wines, some of them award-winning, and 1 beer from its 6 hectares of vineyards, with Bio Bourgeon organic certification since 2023, and says the estate won a Swiss wine tourism prize in 2021. For a wedding that means the aperitif and the dinner can be poured from the estate itself. Team-building formats on the corporate side include wine tastings, which hints that a tasting could be arranged for wedding guests too.
The gardens are the estate's calling card; the venue says gardens are part of its DNA and hosts garden parties in them. The site also pushes weddings outside the summer. Its "Fall & Winter weddings" section calls these "The perfect seasons to get married and save", with soft lights and the warmth of a fireplace. That is a direct hint that off-season dates cost less, and worth asking about for any couple with a flexible date.
Contact and language
The site is published in French, German and English. The English pages cover the same ground as the French ones, which makes an English first enquiry natural. The venue says its team is "Always available and attentive to your needs". Contact is by phone on 021 869 88 80 (the Swiss number, so callers from abroad add the country code) or by email at info@portesdesiris.ch, and each section has a "Contact us" link. The French site also has pages for press, jobs and internships, and a section called 5 clés d'Excellence (five keys to excellence).
What the site leaves open
The venue publishes no prices, no packages and no per-person figures, even though it says fall and winter dates save money. It gives no room-by-room capacity and no catering menus. It does not say whether outside caterers are allowed, how late the music can run, or whether the estate can be booked exclusively for a wedding. The pages mention no accommodation on site, and they do not say whether the venue helps find rooms for guests. It gives no directions from Geneva or Lausanne, no information on parking, and no mention of a shuttle. The home page does not mention Lake Geneva views, so couples who want the lake in the photographs should ask what can be seen from the terraces.
Who it suits
Portes des Iris suits a couple who want gardens, a historic family estate and its own wine, with a venue that can scale from an intimate dinner to a very large wedding and includes a planner in the offer. The stated capacities, the ceremony options and the English site make it one of the easier estates to plan from abroad.
It suits less well a couple who want to stay where they celebrate, since the site describes no rooms for guests, or those who want to choose their own caterer. Couples on a tight budget should ask about fall and winter dates first, since the venue itself says those seasons are the ones to save in.
