A Zurich makeup artist with a published bridal price
Makeup By Leonie Fuchs is the business of Leonie Fuchs, a certified makeup artist and cosmetician (zertifizierte Makeup Artistin und Kosmetikerin) at Loogartenstrasse 17, 8048 Zürich. Her site lists five services, with bridal makeup first, and gives a price for each of them. She writes that she trained as a makeup artist at the Kets Academy in Zurich and continues her training there. Beyond weddings, she does makeup for special occasions, makeup lessons, makeup for TV productions and gift vouchers. The site is in German, apart from its English strapline, "Makeup with a Flawless Glow". It is a short site built around a services list and a contact form, with a short About section, and it names no team: Leonie Fuchs is the person a bride books.
The bridal package
The bridal service is one package at CHF 300. The site describes it as bridal makeup of 60 minutes, including a trial makeup and consultation of 90 minutes ("Braut Makeup für 60 Min. inklusive Probe Makeup & Beratung für 90 Min."). In other words, the price covers a 90-minute trial and consultation session before the wedding and a 60-minute makeup on the day itself. The introduction to the service says a wedding is a very special occasion on which the bride should feel particularly beautiful, and that her aim is to respond individually to each bride's wishes.
Makeup for another person at the wedding (Makeup für weitere Person an Hochzeit) costs CHF 100 per person. That covers a mother, a sister, a bridesmaid or a witness, and gives a couple a clear figure for the whole morning. The site does not say how many additional people she can make up on one wedding morning, or whether each guest's makeup also takes 60 minutes, which matters for planning the timing.
Because the trial is built into the CHF 300, there is no separate trial fee to budget for. For a couple living abroad, though, the package assumes a 90-minute session with her before the wedding, so the trip to Switzerland needs to allow for it, or the couple should ask whether the trial can be held close to the wedding date. What the page does not include, and what a couple from abroad will need to ask about, is where the wedding-day makeup takes place and whether travel is charged on top.
Products
In her About section, she says her clients enjoy quality products from brands such as Mac Cosmetics, Charlotte Tilbury and Smashbox, among many others. She describes her goal as underlining and bringing out each client's individual beauty, and says she responds specifically to each client's personal wishes and ideas. A bride with particular preferences, or with products she knows her skin tolerates, can raise that during the trial.
Other services and prices
- Makeup for special occasions, for a birthday or event, 60 minutes, CHF 100
- Makeup lesson (Schminkberatung) for adults, 90 minutes, CHF 150
- Makeup lesson for teenagers up to 16, 90 minutes, CHF 120
- Makeup for TV productions, CHF 100 per hour
- Gift vouchers, priced individually
The makeup lesson is described as a step-by-step session in which she shows how to do your own makeup at home, with advice on suitable skincare and techniques tailored to the client. For a bride, that could be a useful appointment before the wedding for learning touch-ups for later in the day, or for the days around the wedding when she is doing her own makeup. The TV service is for television presenters and live-show participants, made up in the makeup room; she writes that she responds fully to each person's wishes so that they feel confident on stage. The special-occasion makeup is pitched at a birthday or event, as the finishing touch to a look. Vouchers can be bought for a makeup lesson or for special-occasion makeup, which makes them a possible gift for a bridesmaid.
Booking and contact
Each service has a "Jetzt anfragen" (inquire now) button leading to a contact form that asks for first and last name, email, phone number and the makeup service wanted, with room for a message. She can also be reached by phone on +41 77 249 02 70, by email at makeupbyleoniefuchs@gmail.com, and on Instagram at @makeupbyleoniefuchs. For a couple abroad, the email address and the form are the easiest routes; a first message that gives the wedding date, the time the bride needs to be ready, where she will get ready and how many guests want makeup will save a round of questions.
What the site does not settle
The site gives an address in Zurich but does not say whether bridal makeup is done there or at the bride's home, hotel or venue, and it says nothing about travel costs or how far she travels. It does not say how long before the wedding the trial should take place, how far in advance to book, or whether a deposit is needed to hold a date. It does not state which languages she works in; the site is in German, so a couple who needs English should ask. There is no portfolio page and no client reviews on the site; her menu lists a blog and an About page, and her Instagram account is the place to look for examples of her work before booking. The bridal package covers makeup only, and hair is not offered anywhere on the site, so a bride will need a separate hairstylist.
Who it suits
Makeup By Leonie Fuchs suits a bride marrying in or around Zurich who wants bridal makeup with a trial at a clear, published price, and perhaps makeup for a few family members or bridesmaids at CHF 100 each. It suits a bride who can come to the trial in person in Zurich before the wedding. It is less suited to a bride who wants hair and makeup from the same person, or who needs a makeup artist to come to a venue far from the city without first confirming travel terms. The caveats are the unanswered questions on location and travel, a German-language site, and no portfolio on the site itself; all can be settled with one email before booking.
