Three Winterthur Salons With a Wedding Service
Meraki Hairdesign is a hair salon business in Winterthur, run as Meraki-Hairdesign GmbH, with three locations in the city: two on Pionierstrasse and one at Obertor in the old town. Alongside cuts, color, extensions and cosmetics, it offers a bridal hair and makeup service it calls "Your Big Day", and a styling bus that brings hair and makeup to a wedding party. For a couple marrying in or around Winterthur, the draw is the published price list: the bridal service, the home option and the travel charges all carry a figure in Swiss francs.
The site is in German throughout, and none of the pages says whether the team works in English. That is the first thing a couple from abroad should ask.
How the Your Big Day Service Works
The wedding page explains the sequence plainly. About two to four weeks before the wedding ("Etwa 2–4 Wochen vor dem Hochzeitstag"), the salon arranges a trial appointment. At the trial the team gets to know the bride's skin and hair type, advises on hairstyle and makeup, and tries out what suits her best. Once the look is settled, they recreate it on the wedding day, either on location or in the salon, "genauso wie am Probetag" (exactly as on the trial day).
For a bride who lives abroad, that timing matters. A trial two to four weeks before the date means either an extra trip to Winterthur or a conversation with the salon about fitting the trial closer to the wedding, and the page does not say whether that is possible.
Bridal Prices
The price list (marked "Preisliste 2023/09", all prices in CHF including VAT, subject to change) gives three options for the bride:
- Your Big Day in the salon, with makeup (trial included): CHF 750
- Your Big Day in the salon, without makeup (trial included): CHF 500
- Your Big Day at home: CHF 1,300, plus CHF 100 for each additional person; more than 3 additional people are priced on request, and travel is charged on top at CHF 150 per hour
The list also notes that the trial hairstyle and makeup are included for the bride in the salon. What the at-home price covers in detail, and whether it includes makeup, is not spelled out beyond these lines, so it is worth asking for a written breakdown. There is no separate published price for bridesmaids or mothers within the Your Big Day service. The general cosmetics list prices makeup from CHF 90 and a braided updo ("Flechten mit Hochstecken") from CHF 100, which gives a guide for guests booking in the salon.
The Styling Bus
Meraki also runs a "Stylingbus" with three packages on the price list:
- Wedding Package: styling and makeup for the bride and 15 people, 5 hours, on request
- Wedding Package Mini: styling and makeup for the bride and 3 people, 3 hours
- Bachelorette Package: styling for 10 people, 2 hours
The first 30 minutes of travel are included, and after that the list gives CHF 200 per hour. The bride's trial hairstyle and makeup are included in all bus packages. No price is printed for the two wedding bus packages, so a quote is needed. For a wedding party getting ready together at a hotel or a venue near Winterthur, the bus is the most practical option the salon offers, since everyone is styled in one place.
The Three Locations
The pages describe each salon:
- Pionierstrasse 18, 8400 Winterthur (052 536 36 36): the first salon and the origin of the business, in a loft space with six workstations and a waiting area.
- Pionierstrasse 24, 8400 Winterthur (052 212 71 22): a further 10 workstations in the same loft style, combined with a pop-up store where young Swiss fashion labels show their products.
- Obertor 35, 8400 Winterthur (052 202 77 00): in the heart of Winterthur's old town, which the salon says is easy to reach on foot or by bike.
The two Pionierstrasse salons are on the Sulzer-Areal, the former heavy-industry site, and the page says they are only two minutes' walk from Winterthur main station, directly behind the Kesselhaus. For wedding guests staying in town without a car, that is a useful detail. General email goes to info@meraki-hairdesign.ch, and appointments can be booked online through the "Termin buchen" buttons.
Products
The wedding page says the salon buys its makeup from several brands and its hair products from Kevin Murphy, choosing for natural ingredients and sustainable production. The coloring page lists what the salon says about its hair products: free of parabens and sulfates, made from natural ingredients, not tested on animals, and packed in recycled plastic waste from the sea. These are the salon's own descriptions; a bride with sensitive skin or allergies should raise them at the trial.
Other Services Before the Wedding
Because Meraki is a full salon, a bride can arrange the rest of her hair care with the same business. The price list covers women's cuts (wash, cut and style from CHF 84 for short hair to CHF 110 for long), single-process color, glossing, balayage and highlights, brow shaping and tinting, lash tinting, and two extension systems (wefts and tape-ins, each with a CHF 30 consultation). The cosmetics page says a complete look, from haircut to makeup, can be done in a single appointment, and that services can also be booked separately.
What the Site Leaves Open
- Language: not stated anywhere.
- Bridal party prices within the Your Big Day service, beyond the at-home rate per extra person.
- Who does the work: the site has a team page, but the wedding pages do not say how many stylists come to a home booking or the bus.
- Deposit and cancellation: no terms appear on the pages.
- Distance limits: the travel is charged by the hour, but there is no stated maximum distance.
Who It Suits
Meraki suits a bride marrying in or near Winterthur who wants hair and makeup from one business, a trial included in the price, and a clear figure before the first conversation. The styling bus fits a larger bridal party getting ready together, and the central Pionierstrasse salons are convenient for guests arriving by train. The drawbacks are the German-only site, the absence of a published bridesmaid rate for the salon package, and a trial two to four weeks before the wedding that a bride flying in has to plan around. The home and bus options also add hourly travel charges, so a venue further from Winterthur raises the total.
