A Zurich school with short, practical wedding courses

Dance it is a dance school at Stäblistrasse 2 in 8006 Zurich, with its entrance on Gladbachstrasse. It is run by Monika Stirnimann, who signs the welcome text on the homepage, and it teaches couple dances to adults and young people alongside Hip Hop, Jazz Funk, Line Dance, Zumba, children's classes and courses for older adults. Its wedding offer (Hochzeitskurse) is concrete: single 2-hour courses on fixed dates, open to the couple and to their families and guests, plus private lessons and an offer to come and teach a dance at the wedding party itself.

For an international couple, the most useful line sits right under the wedding course description: "Antonina spricht Englisch und ein wenig Deutsch" (Antonina speaks English and a little German). She teaches most of the wedding course dates listed.

The wedding courses

The school introduces its wedding courses by saying that the first dance of the newlyweds is one of the most moving moments of any wedding, and that the couple traditionally opens the dancing with a wedding waltz. So that you can enjoy that moment, it offers to teach you the most important social dances or to refresh what you already know.

In the 2-hour wedding dance courses, you learn the basic steps in Viennese Waltz (the classic wedding waltz), English Waltz and Disco Swing. The courses are aimed not only at the couple but also at their parents, relatives, friends, witnesses and wedding guests. That makes it easy to bring a group along: a couple can book places for the people who will join them on the floor after the first dance.

The dates listed on the homepage run from late summer into autumn 2026, each a single session of 1 x 120 minutes:

  • Saturday 22.08.2026, 12:00 to 14:00, with Antonina Kormacheva
  • Thursday 03.09.2026, 20:00 to 22:00, with Anastasia Zumbühl
  • Saturday 05.09.2026, 13:00 to 15:00, with Antonina Kormacheva
  • Friday 11.09.2026, 18:00 to 20:00, with Monika Stirnimann
  • Wednesday 30.09.2026, 20:15 to 22:15, with Antonina Kormacheva

Registration runs through an online sign-up link beside the dates.

Beyond the group course

Two further options matter for a first dance. In a private lesson, the school says it will teach you further dances or work out a choreography with you to a piece of music of your choice. That is the route for a couple who wants something built around their own song rather than basic steps.

The second stands out: the school writes that it is happy to come to your wedding celebration and teach your guests a dance. For a wedding with guests from abroad, a short lesson on the day could turn the dance floor into something the whole party joins, and it is worth asking how that works, what it costs and whether it can be done in English.

The wider program

The homepage lists all the current standard and Latin dances: the classics Viennese Waltz, English Waltz and Foxtrot; the Latin dances Salsa, Cha Cha Cha, Rumba and Bolero, Samba, Merengue and Argentine Tango; and the faster ones, Rock'n'Roll and Jive, Quickstep and Discofox or Disco Swing. It also offers special courses for learning a single dance, and says that private lessons suit people who feel more at ease in a small circle. It prepares people for balls and parties as well as weddings.

Couples who want to go further can take the regular adult courses. Course 1 teaches the basic steps in Disco Swing, Jive, Cha Cha Cha, Salsa, Viennese Waltz and English Waltz over 5 x 75 minutes, and later courses add Foxtrot, Rumba and Bolero, social Tango, Quickstep, Tango Argentino and Samba. Club courses run for 6 x 75 minutes. The course table notes that the teacher on Monday and Wednesday speaks broken German and English. There is also a course 1 for women who want to learn both the leading and following side, a course listed under the heading "Sie & Sie, Er & Er", and a couple-dance course taught in Russian.

The menu also lists Lindy Hop, Boogie Woogie, Breakdance, a parent and child class, pre-ballet for children, dance evenings, a Tanz Tee, a couple-dance weekend, children's birthday parties and events. For older family members there are Everdance courses for people aged 60 and over, a concept the site says was developed by Pro Senectute Kanton Zürich, with simple step sequences that need no partner. Some run in Olten, Bassersdorf, Bad Zurzach, Riniken and Zurich, with prices stated for those courses (for example Fr. 308 per person for 14 lessons). A seated class, Tanzen im Sitzen, is described as an alternative for people whose legs no longer cooperate, with gymnastic dances, hand-held props and rhythm instruments, which could interest a grandparent who wants to feel part of the celebration.

The team and contact

Three teachers appear across the wedding dates: Monika Stirnimann, Antonina Kormacheva and Anastasia Zumbühl. The menu has separate team pages for couple dance and solo dance, a page on the course venue (Kurslokal) and a page on how to find the school, but the homepage itself gives only the address.

Contact is by phone on 044 364 65 66, by mobile on 079 542 58 07, or by email to info@dance-it.ch.

What the homepage does not settle

The homepage publishes no price for the wedding course, the private lessons or the visit to a wedding party. The menu includes a separate prices page (Preise), so a couple should look there or ask. The homepage says nothing about parking or public transport beyond the address, and it gives no lead time for private lessons or for booking a teacher for the wedding day. It also does not say whether the choreography in a private lesson can be taught in English, although naming Antonina as an English speaker is a strong hint of where to start.

Who it suits

Dance it suits couples in Zurich who want a quick, well-defined start: one 2-hour course to learn a waltz and a Disco Swing, with parents and friends in the same room. English speakers have a named teacher, and the offer to teach guests at the celebration is a real point of difference. The caveats are a German-language site, a group course that covers basics rather than a personal routine, and prices that have to be looked up or requested.
