A Bern dance school with a wedding program and rooms to rent
Danceorama Bern is a dance school at Zentweg 26 in 3006 Bern, with a sister school, Danceorama Solothurn, listed in its navigation. For couples it offers three things under one roof: a short group course for the bridal couple and their friends, private lessons in which a choreography is created to the couple's own music, and studios that can be rented for a party, a reception or a wedding. The school also books out teachers to teach party dances to all the guests at a celebration.
The site is in German throughout and does not state whether lessons are available in English. Couples who need English teaching should ask when they call.
The wedding couple course
The wedding course page sets a modest, sensible goal: to dance well at weddings and similar occasions and to feel comfortable doing it. The Hochzeitspaar-Kurs introduces bridal couples, witnesses and friends, in a playful way, to four dances: the sweeping Viennese Waltz, the dreamy slow waltz (Langsamer Walzer), the versatile Blues and the popular Discofox. The first course needs no previous experience and covers the basic steps and basic movements of the most important dances for a wedding party.
Each run has 4 lessons and costs Fr. 100.00 per person. The dates published for autumn and winter are:
- Course 19809, Sundays from 27.09.26 to 18.10.26, 17:00 to 18:00, with Kerstin Stuber
- Course 19779, Wednesdays from 11.11.26 to 02.12.26, 21:00 to 22:00, with Barbara Gurtner
- Course 19834, Fridays from 11.12.26 to 15.01.27, 21:00 to 22:00, with Volker Rohr
Because the price is per person, a couple should budget for two places, and the course is explicitly open to witnesses and friends, so a small group can learn together.
Private lessons and bespoke choreography
The wedding overview page says that anyone without partner-dance experience, or whose last course was a while ago, should take a basic course, a refresher or a wedding couple course in good time. Couples who want something unusual, varied and entertaining can have their own choreography to their own music created in private lessons. The school's wedding knowledge page adds that it is also possible to cut several songs together and build a choreography to the mix.
The same page lists further services for which information is given by phone, always in the afternoon, on 031 932 05 05: private lessons for wedding parties, dance lessons for a Polterabend (the pre-wedding party), shows such as one where the couple dances a waltz and then moves into a party dance, and booking a dance teacher who rehearses party dances with all the guests at a celebration. Prices for these services are not published.
Choosing the music
The school's page on wedding dance knowledge is useful reading for couples who have never thought about a first dance. It says the wedding dance, also called the Brauttanz, has become fashionable again and is usually a Viennese Waltz, but that it can also be a modern Cha-Cha-Cha or a Rumba, and it tells couples not to let anyone else decide what a proper first dance looks like. It also points out that the fast Viennese Waltz can be tricky in a wedding dress, which is why a slower dance is often chosen.
The page then lists its favorite songs. Its top choice is "The Second Waltz" by Shostakovich, with the André Rieu version suggested for couples who want something more modern. Other picks include "Perfect" by Ed Sheeran, "A thousand years" by Christina Perri, "At Last" by Etta James and classic waltzes by Johann Strauss. A second list pairs songs with dances, such as "Thinking out loud" by Ed Sheeran for a Blues and "Marry you" by Bruno Mars for a Jive.
The studios
The rooms page offers the school's studios for private parties, birthdays, weddings, anniversaries and company events. All rooms have a wooden parquet floor, a sound system and mirrors, and the page describes a large floor area and atmospheric lighting. Studio 1 and Studio 2 each measure 165 m² and take 150 people for an apéritif or cocktail, or 120 people at a banquet with 8 to 12 people per round table. Studio 3 measures 55 m² and Studio 4 measures 155 m².
Rental for Studio 1 and Studio 2 costs 220.00 for half a day (4 hours), 330.00 for a full day (8 hours) and 55.00 per hour. Studio 3 costs 80.00, 110.00 and 35.00; Studio 4 costs 170.00, 280.00 and 55.00. The price includes the room, infrastructure, a cloakroom for guests, toilets and use of the sound system. Final cleaning is billed separately according to effort, at about Fr. 50.00 per room for normal use. There are also hourly rates for teaching private lessons and for training in the rooms, and the school does not rent rooms for dance styles that it or its sub-tenants teach.
Furniture and decor can be rented too: a round table for 10 to 12 people at 28.–, rectangular banquet tables at 16.– and 12.–, folding chairs in white or black at 5.–, tablecloths from 16.– to 20.– including washing, and silver candelabras with 3, 5 or 9 arms from 10.– to 15.–, without candles.
Hours, events and contact
The office is open Monday to Friday from 13.00 to 18.00, except during holidays. The school itself is open Monday to Friday from 13.00 to 22.00 and on Sunday from 18.00 to 21.00. Contact is by phone on 031 932 05 05 or by email to info@danceorama.ch, and there is a newsletter.
Guests are welcome at the school's dance parties. Upcoming events include Friday Night dances on 16.10.2026, 13.11.2026 and 18.12.2026, a Chlaus Ball on 05.12.2026 and the Tanzsommer Bern from 16.07.2027 to 18.07.2027, which could give a couple a low-key chance to try their dance in company.
What the site leaves open
The site does not say how to reach Zentweg 26 by public transport or whether there is parking. It publishes no prices for private lessons with a teacher, for bespoke choreography or for booking a teacher at a wedding, and it gives no teaching language. For a studio rental it gives no deposit, cancellation or catering terms.
Who it suits
Danceorama suits couples in and around Bern who want an inexpensive, clearly priced group start and the option to go further with a private choreography. The rentable studios mean the same school could also host a small party or a rehearsal evening. The caveats are a German-only site and wedding extras that have to be priced by phone in the afternoon.
