A partner-dance school in Chur

Discoswing, run as Discoswing.ch GmbH, is a dance school at Kalchbühlstrasse 12 in 7000 Chur. Its focus is on two families of partner dance: Disco Swing and Disco Fox, which the homepage calls "der beliebteste Paartanz für alle Altersgruppen" (the most popular partner dance for all age groups), and West Coast Swing, "der flexibelste Paartanz für alle die sich frei fühlen möchten" (the most flexible partner dance for everyone who wants to feel free). Its tagline is that learning to dance can be as easy as walking. For couples, it offers a wedding dance service, "Euer perfekter erster Tanz", described as individually choreographed for your big day.

The site is entirely in German and says nothing about lessons in English, so a couple from abroad should ask first.

The wedding dance

The wedding dance is presented twice on the homepage. Once as your perfect first dance, "individuell choreografiert für euren grossen Tag" (individually choreographed for your big day), and once as a service with three points: professional choreography, individual advice and flexible appointments. The button beside it reads "Beratung anfragen" (request a consultation), so the first step is a conversation rather than an online booking.

For a first dance, Disco Fox and West Coast Swing are a different proposition from a waltz. The homepage does not say which styles the wedding choreography can use, how many lessons it takes or what it costs; those details come with the consultation.

Courses, private lessons and online learning

The regular course program runs from beginner to advanced. The beginner course is described as the perfect start in Disco Swing, Disco Fox, West Coast Swing and many other dances, with no previous knowledge needed; it covers basic steps, first elements, and music and rhythm. The advanced course adds linked elements, leading technique and musical interpretation, to broaden your repertoire and improve style, dynamics and rhythm.

Private lessons are offered as individual training for fast progress, with flexible dates, tailored to your needs. For a couple with a wedding date approaching, this is the likely route alongside or instead of a choreography package.

The school also sells online video courses, which it describes as professional video lessons with many examples and complete courses taught the same way as in the school. They are available at any time, step by step, and include practice music. For a couple who lives some distance from Chur, or who wants to keep practicing between lessons, that is a practical addition. The homepage does not say whether wedding choreography itself can be coached online.

There is also a health section with Yoga, Antara and pelvic floor training (Beckenboden).

Practice nights and dance nights

Almost every Friday evening between 18:00 and 19:00 there is a practice evening, combined with a taster evening for learning the basic steps of a new dance. For course participants it is free, to catch up on anything missed, as often as needed until it works.

On the last Saturday of each month, except July, the school holds its Tanznacht, a dance party from 20:00 to 00:30 in Saal 4 with DJ Mo, drinks and snacks, and entry of CHF 10. Soft drinks start at CHF 5, beer at CHF 6 and drinks at CHF 12. A different workshop, such as Disco Fox, Jive, Walzer or Line, runs before each Tanznacht. The page stresses that it is always ladies' and gentlemen's choice: "Alle unsere Gäste tanzen gerne auch mal mit einer neuen Bekanntschaft" (all our guests like to dance with someone new now and then), and in principle nobody says no. The events listed include a Tanznacht on 26.09, a Schlager Tanznacht on 10.10 with about 40% Schlager music, and a Disco 60+ afternoon on 30.10 from 14:00 to 17:00, organized by Pro Senectute Graubünden in the school's rooms.

For a wedding couple, a Tanznacht is a relaxed place to try the first dance in front of other people before the day.

The rooms

The school has two dance halls. Saal 4, on the second floor, measures 450 m² and holds 200 people, with a rotating disco ball and what the site calls perfect sound; the homepage describes it as a comfortable hall for large groups and private lessons and offers a 360° tour. Saal 1, on the third floor, measures 150 m² and holds 40 people, with a PA system, and is described as suitable for smaller groups, private lessons, and a birthday or other celebration. The homepage also claims almost complete fresh-air supply in its rooms.

The address block links to a video on how to get there, but the homepage gives no written directions, parking information or public transport details.

The team

André Walser and Francine Walser lead the school. The homepage credits André Walser with shaping Discoswing through his proven techniques and his distinctive fire on the dance floor, and describes the two of them as role models for many dancers. Experienced teachers complete the team for Disco Swing and Disco Fox, West Coast Swing and other dances, and the school says it has taken on many new teachers and assistants for 2026. A counter on the homepage mentions teaching experience with 14 teachers.

The school also runs a platform for finding a dance partner or signing up as a helper, with a waiting list. Helpers who have already taken a course get the course free.

Booking and contact

Office hours are Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 18:00. The school can be reached by email at info@discoswing.ch or by phone and WhatsApp on +41 79 703 54 34. Courses are booked online through the "Jetzt buchen" buttons.

What the site leaves open, and who it suits

The homepage gives no price for the wedding choreography, private lessons or courses, no number of lessons for a first dance, no lead time, and no word on whether a teacher can come to a wedding venue. The teaching language is not stated.

Discoswing suits couples in and around Chur who want a first dance that is modern rather than classical, with a choreography built for them, and who like the idea of a community with regular dance nights to practice at. The online courses help couples who cannot come in every week. The caveats are a German-only site and wedding details that only come out in a consultation.
