The Art of Dance

Tap a star to rate

The Art of Dance is a dance school with two studios in the canton of Zurich: Grundstrasse 10A, 8712 Stäfa, and Grüzefeldstrasse 32, 8400 Winterthur. The home page says the school has for years been bringing the joy of dancing to couples, adults and children, and that its professional teachers teach Standard and Latin, salsa, bachata, Zumba, children's dance and private lessons. It and has a wedding dance page (Hochzeitstanz) aimed at couples who want their own choreography for their first dance. The owner and teacher is Federico Antonini, whom the site describes as Italian champion in Liscio in 2008 and an international competition dancer.

The wedding dance offer

The wedding page's promise fits in one line: personal first-dance preparation for couples in Stäfa and Winterthur, with "Eigene Choreografie zu eurem Lied, entspannt und in eurem Tempo" (your own choreography to your song, relaxed and at your pace), also at short notice before the wedding date. The first consultation is free ("Gratis Erstberatung").

The page sets out the process in four steps:

  1. a free first consultation
  2. choosing the song
  3. building the choreography in private lessons ("Aufbau der Choreografie in Privatstunden")
  4. a final polish shortly before the wedding ("ein letzter Feinschliff kurz vor der Hochzeit")

The site's own course description presents the wedding course as private one-to-one lessons with Federico and Benedetta, taught on site at either studio.

This is a private-lesson format from start to finish. There is no group wedding course on the page, so couples who feel self-conscious about dancing in front of other students will not have to.

How many lessons

The page answers the question couples ask first, "Wie viele Stunden braucht ihr?" (how many hours do you need?), honestly rather than with a package: "Die Anzahl der Stunden hängt von Lied, Choreografie und Vorerfahrung ab" (the number of hours depends on the song, the choreography and previous experience). It adds that last-minute preparation is also possible ("Auch Last-minute-Vorbereitungen sind möglich").

For a couple flying in shortly before a wedding in the Zurich area, the short-notice option is the useful part. For a couple with more time, the free consultation is the place to agree a realistic number of lessons for their song.

The four steps also suggest how to plan from abroad. The consultation and the choice of song can be settled first, by phone or email if the couple is not yet in Switzerland; the school does not say whether the consultation itself can happen remotely, so that is worth asking. The choreography is then built over private lessons at a studio, and the last session, the final polish, is meant to fall shortly before the wedding. A couple arriving a week or two ahead should tell the school their dates at the first contact so the lessons, and especially that last one, can be fitted into the time they have in the country.

Who teaches

The team page reads, in full: Federico Antonini, Italian champion in Liscio 2008 and international competition dancer, and Benedetta lead a team of experienced, professional dance teachers. Liscio is a partner-dance tradition from Italy. The site does not give Benedetta's surname or background, and it does not name the other teachers. The site's menu includes a competition section (Wettkampf), and its business description lists competition dancing (Turniertanz) among the school's subjects, so a couple wanting a polished, technically demanding routine will find the experience there.

The team leaders' names and Federico's Italian background may matter to Italian-speaking couples, but the site itself does not state which languages the teachers use.

Locations and hours

The wedding page says the school teaches in Stäfa and Winterthur and that its wedding couples come from Stäfa, Winterthur, Zürich, Meilen, Männedorf, Rapperswil-Jona and Uster. Stäfa is the main address on the contact line.

The site's business details give opening hours for the Stäfa school from Monday to Saturday, 08:00 to 23:00, and shorter hours for the Winterthur studio: Wednesday 15:30 to 17:45 and Saturday 15:00 to 17:15. A couple should confirm which studio and time slots are available for private wedding lessons, since the Winterthur hours are limited.

The site does not give public transport or parking information for either studio.

Contact

Phone +41 76 276 70 55, email info@theartofdance.ch. The school links to Instagram, TikTok and Facebook accounts. The home page's search description also mentions a free trial lesson (Probelektion gratis) for its courses.

The contact page is short: it repeats the two addresses and says the school looks forward to your message. The wedding page ends with the same contact line, so a couple can write straight from there. The site also offers its rooms for rent (Raummiete) and has an events page for workshops, special courses and salsa parties, though no dates are listed on it.

What the site does not settle

  • Price. No price appears for wedding lessons or private lessons.
  • Language. The site is in German, addressing couples informally ("ihr", "euer"). No page states whether lessons are available in English or Italian.
  • Lesson length. The site gives no length for a private lesson.
  • Teachers beyond the two leads. Not named.
  • Access. No transport or parking details.
  • Home or venue visits. The course is listed as on site at the studios; no mention of lessons at a venue.

The site's business details show a 5.0 rating from 80 reviews, without saying where the reviews come from.

Who it suits

The Art of Dance suits couples living near Stäfa or Winterthur, or in the towns the page names, who want a first dance choreographed to their own song, in private lessons, with the option of starting late. The free first consultation lets a couple meet the teacher and hear a realistic lesson estimate before paying anything, which is useful when the song and the ambition vary as much as they do between couples.

It is less suited to couples who want to know the price before making contact, who need English-language teaching confirmed in advance, or who would rather learn in a group wedding course with a fixed schedule. Couples needing lessons in Winterthur should check the studio's limited hours first.
