Feuerwerk Freunde

Tap a star to rate

Feuerwerk Freunde is a Swiss association (Verein) of pyrotechnicians, based in Pfaffnau, that plans and fires displays for weddings, birthdays, company events and the Swiss national day on 1 August. It is unusual in two ways. It is run on a volunteer basis, and its site publishes four price levels with a starting price for each. The site states that all eight active members are trained as state-certified pyrotechnicians (FWA/FWB). The site is in German.

Who they are

The association's own description is plain: "Wir streben keinen finanziellen Gewinn an und arbeiten ehrenamtlich" (we do not aim for financial profit and work on a voluntary basis), with enjoyment of working together and of fireworks at the center. It says that planning and firing small and large fireworks is what fascinates and connects the members, and that safety and general well-being always come first.

On training, the site says: "Unser Verein besteht aus acht Aktivmitgliedern, welche allesamt als staatlich geprüfte Pyrotechniker FWA/FWB ausgebildet sind" (our association has eight active members, all trained as state-certified pyrotechnicians FWA/FWB). It adds that members regularly attend further training and refresher courses in all areas, and that together they form "ein eingespieltes, fachkundiges und motiviertes Team" (a well-practiced, expert and motivated team).

For equipment, they use the firing system of Explo Zündtechnik, an Austrian company, which the site says lets them fire displays with maximum safety and to the millisecond.

The wedding offer

The wedding section says fireworks create special moments for weddings, marriage proposals and birthdays, and that they can be personalized and adapted to the space available. The homepage describes the process in three steps: they choose the fireworks with the client, put together an individual program, and make all the arrangements for the show so that it runs smoothly.

Prices

The site publishes four levels, each a starting price ("Ab"), with the note that every display is adjusted to the client's wishes and the conditions at the venue:

  • Starter, from CHF 2000: 6-7 minutes of baroque fireworks, or 3-4 minutes of aerial fireworks building up to a small finale.
  • Standard, from CHF 3500: 7 minutes of aerial fireworks with combined ground effects and a large finale, described as "ideal für Geburtstage oder Hochzeiten" (ideal for birthdays or weddings).
  • Premium, from CHF 5500: 7-8 minutes of aerial fireworks with ground effects and a big finale, pitched at national day and village festivals.
  • Ultimativ, from CHF 7000: 7-8 minutes of music fireworks with effects timed to the beat and 2-3 songs of the client's choice.

For a couple budgeting from abroad, those published figures are the most useful thing on the site: they give a real sense of scale before the first call, and they let a couple match the length of the display to the moment in the evening.

What the service package includes

The site says its service package is included in the price and covers every step "von der Planung über die Bewilligungen bis hin zum sicheren Abbrennen und der Reinigung" (from planning through the permits to safe firing and the cleanup). The list included with every order is:

  • consultation with the client
  • obtaining permits (Einholen von Bewilligungen)
  • sending information to everyone involved
  • planning and a safety concept
  • preparations
  • setting up the necessary infrastructure on site
  • securing the firing area
  • cleaning the firing area
  • insurance

That the association handles the permits and the information to other parties is, by its own account, part of the job. A couple should still ask what the venue itself needs to approve, and what the insurance covers.

The kinds of display

Beyond the price levels, the homepage describes several styles:

  • Höhenfeuerwerk (aerial fireworks), the classic display in the sky, used in most packages.
  • Lautloses Feuerwerk: baroque fireworks, which the site calls an elegant, almost silent alternative for smaller spaces, using volcano fountains and Bengal lighting.
  • Tagesfeuerwerk (daytime fireworks), which work without darkness through bangs, smoke and colored smoke. The site says the style is known from southern Europe and offers it for village festivals, carnival and fairs.
  • Schriften / Bild: a light picture or fire writing (Lichterbild, Feuerschrift), either as a standalone element or alongside a display.

For a wedding, the near-silent baroque option suits a smaller space, and fire writing is worth asking about for a message to the couple.

Partners and references

The partners section lists venues (the hotel and restaurant UTO KULM, the lake and seminar hotel FloraAlpina, Kloster Gastbetriebe Engelberg, Restaurant Aesch, TISCH + BAR and the VISCOSE Eventhalle), wedding planners (Simi's Event and SPARKLES & MORE) and a ceremony leader (Wedding Love-Story). The references include the opening of the new Stoos funicular, the Schlieren town festival, 1 August displays in Otelfingen, Chur, Ilanz and Zernez, wedding fireworks at the Hotel Bad Schauenburg in Liestal and the Hotel Vitznauerhof in Vitznau, a birthday at Golfpark Lipperswil and New Year's fireworks at Uto Kulm.

How to book

Contact is by email at info@feuerwerkfreunde.ch, by phone on 076 696 93 93, or through the contact form on the site. The address is Gänsbrunnenrain 1, 6264 Pfaffnau. The site links its general terms (Allgemeine Geschäftsbedingungen).

What the site does not settle

The site does not state a booking lead time, what happens if weather forces a postponement, or how cancellations are handled beyond linking its general terms. It does not say how far the members travel or whether travel is charged on top of the starting prices, although its references run from Liestal to Zernez. It does not say whether the team works in English.

Who this suits

Feuerwerk Freunde suits couples who want a proper display with the paperwork taken care of and a price range to plan with from the start. The Standard level is the one the site itself names for weddings, and the Ultimativ level adds music for couples who want the fireworks set to their songs. The volunteer structure and the named wedding references at Bad Schauenburg and Vitznauerhof make it an easy supplier to assess.

The caveat for couples from abroad is the German-only site and the absence of any statement on travel. For a wedding with a clear budget, its published prices and included permits make planning straightforward.
