Convivium Catering

Tap a star to rate

Convivium Catering is a caterer based in Pregassona, Lugano, working across Ticino, founded by chef Denni Colanero. It describes itself as specialized in banqueting and gourmet catering for weddings, and builds its wedding offer from a menu of formats: a welcome buffet with themed food islands, finger food, live cooking, a drinks bar and seated menus, plus a lava-stone barbecue and a live gourmet pizza service it sells as exclusives.

The approach

The wedding page opens with "Vogliamo emozionarci con te" (we want to be moved with you) and says that every couple has its own story, dreams and style. Convivium calls itself one of the most innovative companies in wedding catering in Lugano and Ticino, and says its aim goes beyond personalized menus: it wants to tell the couple's love story through its cooking.

Each menu is designed around the couple's wishes and needs, with options running from traditional to modern, and the page names vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free dishes. "Dal primo incontro fino al brindisi finale, i nostri chef si occuperanno di ogni dettaglio" (from the first meeting to the final toast, our chefs will take care of every detail).

On the homepage, Colanero's credo is that cooking is an expression of who they are. Every ingredient they choose speaks of genuineness, every technique is a homage to the traditions that formed them, and the vision is to push further, innovating without losing sight of what makes a dish authentic. The homepage also says the company brings years of experience in catering in Lugano and Ticino, and that elegant set-ups are standard whether the event is a small buffet or a large one.

Choosing a format

The wedding page carries a short advice piece for couples, which frames the choice well. It lists the first questions couples ask: which menu to choose, whether catering or banqueting is better, and whether to go for a standing buffet or table service. Its answer is that there is no single answer: it depends on the kind of reception you have in mind, classic and elegant, informal, or alternative, and the one rule is that the day should tell your own love story. The homepage adds that you can combine classic dishes with gourmet specialties, or build the event around one of the exclusive services.

The wedding formats

The wedding page lists what a reception can include.

Buffet di benvenuto con angoli tematici, a welcome buffet with themed corners. The examples are an isola dei crudi di pesce (raw fish), a corner del casaro (local and international cheeses), an isola di terra (fine cured meats), an isola vegana (creative vegan dishes), an angolo dei fritti (hot fried snacks), and a corner del pane e della pizza (bread and pizza made on the spot).

Live Cooking, with chefs cooking in front of the guests, which the page pitches as a touch of entertainment for the reception.

Finger Food, small, refined creations for a welcome aperitivo or a convivial moment.

Buvette, a corner for cocktails, fine wines and personalized drinks. This is useful to know, since it means the bar can come from the same supplier as the food.

Menù a portate, a menu served at the table, course by course.

Menù per intolleranze alimentari e proposte speciali, where the page says "Curiamo ogni dettaglio per soddisfare le esigenze di tutti i tuoi ospiti" (we take care of every detail to meet the needs of all your guests), naming gluten-free and lactose-free dishes and vegetarian and vegan proposals. As always, a guest with a serious allergy should be discussed with the kitchen directly.

The two exclusives

Convivium sells two services as its own exclusives, and recommends both for outdoor receptions with a welcome buffet and themed islands.

The Diamondfire BBQ is described as a design barbecue with a modern style and quality finishes, cooking on lava stone, suited to elegant gardens and panoramic terraces and to anything from intimate dinners to large outdoor events. The company offers personalized menus built around it.

#Unconventional pizza is a tasting menu of gourmet pizza from Lievito Madre, where the sourdough tradition meets gourmet creativity. The site footer describes the site as "A project powered by © Lievito Madre". The page lists weddings among the events it suits.

Other services

The site also covers company events, meetings and congresses, private parties, a chef-at-home service billed as the experience of a gourmet restaurant in your own home, and a delivery-only catering box with its own price list. For a couple with guests arriving over several days, the chef-at-home or private-party formats could cover a welcome dinner or a day-after gathering; the page does not package them together, so that is a question for the first meeting. The site has a gallery with videos and photos of past events.

Contact and booking

The address is Strada di Pregassona 54, 6963 Pregassona, Lugano. The phone is +41 763769263, and the email is preventivi@conviviumcatering.ch. The office is open Monday to Friday, 9.00 to 19.00, and the site invites you to book an appointment.

The inquiry form asks for the type of event, the date, the city or venue, an indicative number of guests, the time, and a message describing the service wanted and, if you know it, the budget. Filling it in fully is the fastest way to a useful first proposal.

What the site leaves open

The site publishes no prices for weddings, no minimum or maximum guest numbers and no lead time. It covers Lugano and Ticino, and does not say whether the team works outside the canton. It is written in Italian and does not mention English, so a couple writing in English should ask about language in their first message.

Who it suits

Convivium suits couples marrying around Lugano or elsewhere in Ticino who want a reception with movement and variety: food islands, live cooking, a bar and perhaps the barbecue on a terrace, rather than only a seated dinner. The inclusive range of dietary options helps with mixed international guest lists. Having the bar, the buffet and the seated menu from one supplier also makes the offer easier to compare, since drinks and food can arrive in the same quote. The caveats are the Italian-only site and the absence of published prices, so budgets become clear only after the form and a meeting.
