Traiteur de Châtelaine

Tap a star to rate

Traiteur de Châtelaine is a Geneva catering company, trading as Traiteur de Châtelaine SÀRL, that has been cooking for events in the canton since 1982. It caters corporate lunches, private parties and weddings, runs a small group of restaurants of its own, and rents out equipment and event locations, so a couple can talk to one team about food, service and some of the hardware around it.

What it does for a wedding

Weddings sit in the company's private events line. The homepage describes that side of the business with a run of examples: a brunch out in nature, a wedding in a château, a live cooking station, a birthday by the lake, a dinner in your own living room. The page's own summary of it is «Tout est réalisable !», everything can be done. That tells you the caterer is used to working away from its own premises, at venues the client chooses, rather than only in a banquet room it controls.

The menu of services at the top of the site lists professional events, private events, equipment rental (location de matériel), rental of venues (location de lieux) and meal trays for offices. Under "Catalogues 2026" there are three separate catalogs: one for professional events, one for private events and one specifically for weddings. The wedding catalog is a download or linked document rather than text on the homepage, so its contents (menus, formats, prices) are not reproduced on the page itself. A couple should ask for it early; it is the most direct way to see what the company proposes for a wedding.

The homepage names the formats the kitchen works in: cocktails, full menus and plated meal trays, with live cooking mentioned as an option in the private events description. Service is part of the offer too. In the section describing its complete package the company lists staff, logistics and coordination alongside the food.

The turnkey offer and who it is written for

One block on the homepage describes a "clé en main" (turnkey) solution: a venue through the company's event partners, food in the form of cocktails, full menus or meal trays, and service covering personnel, logistics and coordination. It is presented under the heading of corporate events and is followed by a list of office formats (year-end parties, client cocktails, afterworks, team dinners). The company also lists venue rental as a service of its own, but the homepage does not spell out a wedding version of this package, and the partner venues are not named. That is worth raising directly: which venues the company works with, and whether it handles the booking or simply introduces you.

The company says it works from 10 people upward and tailors the event to the client's wishes and budget. For a small wedding, that minimum is low enough to be useful.

Kitchen, team and sourcing

In the section headed "Les plus du Traiteur" the company calls itself an institution at the heart of Geneva life and credits its multicultural team, its attention to detail and its agility. It says it works throughout the canton and beyond, in its own words «dans tout le Canton de Genève et ailleurs selon l'actualité» (throughout the canton of Geneva and elsewhere, depending on circumstances). It also stresses its links with local producers: «nous connaissons le circuit de nos produits» (we know where our products come from and how they reach us), which it ties to the quality of what it serves.

The restaurants are the most concrete evidence of the kitchen behind the catering. The site says the company created them to extend its culinary know-how, with a friendly service for lunches from Monday to Friday. Four are listed:

  • Restaurant des Evaux, in the Parc des Evaux at Onex, described as the more refined address, with a menu built on local produce in an authentic, convivial setting.
  • La Table du Traiteur, which the site describes as a place that values quality products, seasonal cooking and regional specialties.
  • La Cafétéria 117, a relaxed lunch spot in Carouge serving balanced, home-made meals prepared in front of the guest.
  • Le Resto du Traiteur, a simple lunch service with varied dishes drawn from the caterer's own repertoire.

None of these is presented as a wedding venue, and a couple should not assume they are available for private hire. They do show that the company runs daily kitchens and service teams, not just occasional events.

The current promotion

The homepage carries an "Early Bird" offer. For any year-end event (company meal, cocktail, annual party) signed before 25 September 2026, the client receives a credit of 5 percent of the quote, up to CHF 2,000, to be used on a professional event in 2027. It is aimed at companies, not at weddings, and it has a fixed deadline. It is useful mainly as a sign of how the company structures its quotes: per event, by quote, with conditions set out in separate general terms.

What the site does not settle

The site publishes no prices, no per-person rates and no sample wedding menus on the homepage. Every route leads to a quote request ("Demander un devis"), so a couple planning from abroad cannot budget from the website alone and should expect a back-and-forth by email.

The site is published in French only. There is no English version, and the homepage does not say which languages the team works in. The phone number (+41 22 796 01 24) and the email address (info@traiteurdechatelaine.ch) are in the page header, and email is the easier channel if your French is limited. Whether a planning meeting can happen in English is something to ask in the first message.

The homepage does not say how far outside Geneva the company will travel, beyond "ailleurs selon l'actualité". Couples marrying in the Vaud vineyards or further into the mountains should ask about travel and whether a remote venue changes the quote. It also does not describe what the equipment rental covers, so ask whether tables, linen, glassware and tents are part of it or come from a separate supplier. The FAQ and blog are linked from the footer but their contents are not on the homepage.

Who it suits

Traiteur de Châtelaine suits couples marrying in or around Geneva who want a long-established local caterer with its own kitchens and staff, and who are happy to work from a quote rather than a fixed price list. The low minimum makes it an option for small, intimate receptions as well as larger ones, and the mix of cocktails, full menus and live cooking covers most reception styles. Couples who want a single contact for food, service and some equipment will find that offer here.

The caveats are practical. Everything is in French, the wedding catalog has to be requested rather than read on the page, and the turnkey package on the homepage is written for corporate clients. A couple outside Switzerland should plan for an exchange of emails, ask for the wedding catalog, and confirm language, travel and what the rental service includes before booking.
