Vintage vehicles as a wedding kitchen and bar

L'Aperitivo Events is a mobile catering business based in Bioggio, in canton Ticino, run by the company Vespa Scout Sagl. Instead of a kitchen hidden behind the scenes, it brings its cooking and its bar to the venue in restored vintage vehicles: a Piaggio Ape three-wheeler with a wood-fired pizza oven, a cocktail bar built on a vintage bicycle, and a Vespa with a sidecar and a professional beer tap. The Lugano wedding page sums up the idea: the Ape Car pizzeria and the Cocktail Bike bring Italian cooking "direttamente nella vostra venue preferita" (straight to your chosen venue).

The French page says the business was born in Ticino with the aim of turning each event into a lasting memory through traveling catering, and that its vehicles "ne sont pas de simples food trucks" (are not simple food trucks) but mobile sets. It describes the specialty as outdoor wedding catering, corporate events and private parties across Switzerland and northern Italy, with live show cooking by professional chefs.

The fleet and its capacities

The site gives each vehicle a guest limit:

  • ApeCar Pizza, up to 80 guests: a Piaggio Ape fitted with a wood-fired oven for Pizza Napoletana and Pinsa Romana. The Italian page calls it the real star of the event, with the dough flying and a pizza ready within minutes.
  • Cocktail Bike, up to 90 guests: a vintage bicycle turned into a mobile cocktail bar, which the French page recommends for welcome drinks, apéritifs and signature cocktails. The Italian page mentions Spritz, gin and tonic and chilled sparkling wine.
  • Vespa Sidecar, up to 90 guests: a vintage Vespa with a sidecar and a professional draft system for craft beer on tap, cocktails and toasts at sunset.
  • BBQ & Grill Station, up to 80 guests (on the French page): a professional barbecue station for Chianina beef, signature burgers and spit-roasted meats.

The Lugano page adds two more units without stating a capacity: an ApeCar Pasta & Mozzarella for live show cooking of fresh pasta and buffalo mozzarella, and a Vespa Calessino Friggitoria for fried finger food.

The limits apply per vehicle. The site does not say whether several vehicles can be combined for a larger wedding, which is a question for the quote.

The menu

The French page sets out the menu as a series of stations. The pizza experience offers gourmet pizza and long-fermented pinsa romana. The Italian grill includes glazed ribs, arrosticini from Abruzzo and Ticino luganighetta sausage. The mozzarella bar serves buffalo mozzarella from Campania, which the page says is delivered fresh every day. The pasta station makes hand-stretched pasta in front of the guests. There is fried finger food for the apéritif, gourmet burgers (from a lobster burger to a "Gold Bun" with gold leaf), the cocktail bar, and a welcome-drink service with prosecco, Franciacorta, champagne and personalized welcome drinks.

The Lugano page says every menu is personalized with "ingredienti km zero selezionati tra i migliori produttori ticinesi e italiani" (zero-kilometer ingredients chosen from the best producers in Ticino and Italy). The show-cooking section lists live preparation, local ingredients, professional chefs and interaction with the guests, and promises that the guests "ne resteront pas spectateurs" (will not stay spectators).

Weddings around Lugano

The Lugano page calls Lugano "la nostra casa" (our home) and says that, being based in Bioggio, the team knows every location, every supplier and every corner where the light is perfect. It names the venues where it works most often in Lugano and Ticino:

  • Villa Castagnola, Lugano, a historic Liberty villa on the lakefront with a century-old botanical garden
  • Hotel Splendide Royal, Lugano, with a panoramic lake terrace facing Monte Brè
  • Parco Ciani, Lugano, which the page calls the most beautiful garden in Lugano, for outdoor weddings
  • Villa Principe Leopoldo, Lugano, a 5-star hotel with a pool and panoramic terrace
  • LAC, Lugano Arte e Cultura, the contemporary cultural center on the lakefront
  • Villa Negroni, Viganello, a historic villa with a private park

These are venues run by others; L'Aperitivo Events brings its vehicles to them. The page states that the fleet reaches every location in Lugano and canton Ticino "con allestimento completo incluso" (with full setup included), and that the team handles every detail "dal primo sopralluogo alla festa" (from the first site visit to the party).

Beyond Ticino, the French page names Lake Como villas (Villa Balbianello, Villa d'Este, Villa Carlotta) and Lake Maggiore, and lists Geneva, Lausanne, Montreux, Vevey, Neuchâtel and Sion as places it serves across Switzerland.

Three couples are quoted on the Lugano page. Stefano & Monica, married at Villa Castagnola, say the Ape Car Pizza at the villa entrance amazed everyone. Andrea & Silvia write that the team handled everything flawlessly "dalla degustazione all'allestimento" (from the tasting to the setup), and that their 90 guests on the lake will not forget the evening. Massimo & Laura, married at Villa Principe Leopoldo, say the fresh pasta made in front of the guests was the most appreciated moment.

Booking and languages

The site is published in Italian, English, German and French, which helps a couple planning from abroad. Contact is by email to laperitivoevents@gmail.com or by phone on +41 76 844 18 47, and quote requests go through a form. The Lugano page promises a free, personalized quote and a reply within 24 hours. The site does not say which languages the team speaks on the day itself.

What the site leaves open

No prices are published, for single vehicles or combinations. The site states no minimum guest count, no lead time and no deposit terms; general terms are linked in the footer. It says nothing about vegetarian, vegan or allergy-friendly menus; couples with such guests should ask. It gives no plan for rain, and since the vehicles are pitched as outdoor catering, couples should ask how the setup works under cover. Travel costs for venues outside Ticino are not mentioned.

Who it suits

L'Aperitivo Events suits couples who want an Italian, informal and visible style of catering for a garden, park or lakeside reception around Lugano, or for the apéro and late-night part of a wedding elsewhere. The named Lugano venues, the multilingual site and the stated 24-hour reply make it easy to approach from abroad.

The caveats: the capacities per vehicle top out at 80 or 90 guests, prices are only available on request, and a couple planning a formal served dinner will need to ask how the stations fit around, or replace, a seated meal.
