A family butcher that became a caterer

Maison Jemmely is a butcher, caterer and events business in Nyon, in the La Côte region, whose presentation page carries the motto "Artisans du goût depuis 1954" (craftsmen of taste since 1954). The butcher's shop at Rue du Collège 11 in Nyon was founded that year by Gilbert and Verena Jemmely, and the catering and events side began in 1977 at the Moulin-du-Creux, the reception hall the company still runs. Since 2022 the business has traded as "Maison Jemmely, boucherie-traiteur-évènements" (butcher, caterer, events).

The presentation page tells the family story year by year. In 1967, on Thursday 5 October, the family opened a new butcher's shop after two years of renovation, with installations the page calls avant-garde for Switzerland at the time. Their son Jean-Jacques joined in 1981 after an apprenticeship as a butcher and charcutier, and took over in 1995. Catherine Jemmely joined in 2000 at the head of the catering service. Their sons followed: Julien joined the butcher's shop in 2010, and Greg joined in 2012 to run the catering kitchen, after a cook's apprenticeship and experience in kitchens in Switzerland and abroad. In 2018 the two brothers took over the business as Jemmely Frères SA. The Moulin-du-Creux was renovated in 2019 with new spaces, so that it would stay, in the page's words, "incontournable dans le monde de l'évènementiel dans la région de La Côte" (a must in the events world of the La Côte region). An online shop with home delivery and more than 400 products followed in 2021.

The team

The team page names Catherine Jemmely as events manager, Julien Jemmely as head of the butchery and Greg Jemmely as head of events and kitchen. The kitchen includes sous-chef Cédric Neuffer and cook Marion Odelet, and the butchery team lists a sales assistant and three butchers by name. For catering, the contact is Greg Jemmely, at greg@maison-jemmely.ch or on 079 580 94 74.

The catering offer

The catering page is headed "Votre service traiteur sur mesure pour des moments inoubliables" and says the service produces each event to measure, "adapté à vos goûts et vos envies" (adapted to your tastes and wishes). Its range runs "de l'apéritif entre collègues au menu de votre mariage" (from an apéritif among colleagues to your wedding menu), and "du charme de notre salle du Moulin-du-Creux à une salle villageoise" (from the charm of our Moulin-du-Creux hall to a village hall). So the company caters both in its own hall and at other venues. The same paragraph promises that the team will be glad to give the day "l'éclat qu'elle mérite, celui d'un jour d'exception" (the brilliance it deserves, that of an exceptional day).

Two lines deal with money and reliability: the company says its experience lets it "budgétiser votre événement sans surprise" (budget your event without surprises) and guarantees a professional service "à la hauteur de vos exigences" (up to your standards). The page invites couples to look at its menu card, "la carte des mets", which can be downloaded from the page, and then to meet to define expectations according to their wishes and budget.

Staff, tableware and decoration

Three service areas are described.

Service staff. The company says its staff are chosen to represent its values of professionalism, friendliness and energy, and that they manage the whole event so the hosts can enjoy the meal.

Tableware and linen. The page warns that tableware is easy to forget, because "peu de salles sont entièrement équipées de matériel adéquat et non désuet" (few halls are fully equipped with suitable, up-to-date equipment). It offers everything from quality porcelain to ecological single-use tableware, and can call on partners for advice.

Decoration and furniture. From a simple floral decoration to a complete concept built around a theme, the company says it has the resources to advise and to bring in partners so the look of the event matches the couple's wishes. The decoration is arranged with partners, not made in-house, as the page describes it.

Takeaway

Everything on the menu card, including menus, buffets, cocktails and grills, can also be collected from the Nyon shop. For a smaller celebration at home, or a welcome evening before the wedding, that is a simpler option than full service.

Shops and hours

The company has two butcher's shops. Nyon, Rue du Collège 11, 1260 Nyon, phone 022 361 17 57, is open Tuesday to Friday 07:00 to 12:30 and 13:30 to 18:30 and Saturday 07:00 to 14:00, closed Sunday and Monday. Begnins, Grand-Rue 18, 1268 Begnins, phone 022 366 13 14, is open Tuesday to Friday 07:15 to 12:15 and 13:30 to 18:30 and Saturday 07:00 to 15:00. The navigation also lists a mobile butcher service, a specialties page, an events section for the Moulin-du-Creux and a page of other venues.

What the site leaves open

The catering and presentation pages do not give the capacity of the Moulin-du-Creux or the number of guests the company can cater for elsewhere. Prices are not written on the pages themselves; the downloadable menu card is the document to check, and a couple should look at it before the first meeting. There are no deposit or cancellation terms, no lead time, and nothing about vegetarian or allergy-friendly menus or corkage. The site is in French and does not say whether the team works in English. The menu also links to an "Autres lieux" (other venues) page without further detail, so couples looking for a venue should ask which halls the company works in.

Who it suits

Maison Jemmely suits couples marrying on La Côte who want a long-established local caterer that can also provide the hall, the staff, the tableware and the decoration partners. A family business with a butcher's shop behind it will appeal to couples who care about where the meat comes from, and the downloadable menu card makes it possible to start budgeting before the first meeting.

The caveats are the missing capacities, the French-only site and the lack of detail on dietary options. Couples from abroad should confirm the language and the guest numbers early, especially if they want the Moulin-du-Creux on a busy weekend.
