Mango Restaurant is an Indian restaurant at Viktoriastrasse 1 in 3780 Gstaad that also runs a catering service for weddings, company events, private dinners, outdoor events and even private jets. The catering page describes the offer in a row of short labels: "Extérieur ou intérieur", "Événements Premium", "Intime ou opulent", "Sur mesure" and "Mariages à l'échelle" (outdoor or indoor, premium events, intimate or opulent, made to measure, weddings to scale). The site can be read in French, English, German and Italian.

The catering offer

The catering page opens by asking whether the reader is looking for a caterer in a special place, a company event people will talk about, or simply the best of Indian cooking, and promises memorable moments "où et quand vous le souhaitez" (wherever and whenever you like). It says that thanks to many years of experience, the team can organize both large-scale and more intimate events.

The page then lists the event types it caters: company catering, private dining, outdoor catering, private-jet catering, weddings and parties. Each carries the same short text, which is written for weddings: "Grandiose ou exclusif, nous ferons en sorte que votre mariage soit unique" (grand or exclusive, we will make sure your wedding is unique), with high-quality Indian cooking.

The most useful paragraph for a couple is headed "Nous pouvons le faire" (we can do it). Whether for a comfortable dinner at home, a private meal or a larger group event, it says Mango is equipped to host up to 1,000 guests, and each time guests can enjoy "la même atmosphère et des mêmes saveurs que celles proposées par les chefs de Mango" (the same atmosphere and flavors as those offered by Mango's chefs). The team, it adds, will be happy to help organize the event. The page closes by saying the team looks forward "de vous emmener en voyage et de vous faire partager notre passion pour la cuisine indienne" (to take you on a journey and share our passion for Indian cooking), which sums up the pitch: a wedding meal as a trip through India's regional kitchens rather than a Swiss banquet menu.

References

A short references block names places where Mango has worked: the Hôtel Intercontinental Genève, catering in vineyards, and a third caption that reads "Galcier", without further explanation. A quote from Nicolas M. of the Fairmont Montreux Palace reads: "Quand j'ai vu ce que Mango a fait pour le mariage de ses clients dans notre hôtel, j'ai eu envie de me marier une deuxième fois !" (when I saw what Mango did for its clients' wedding in our hotel, I wanted to get married a second time). So the site records at least one wedding catered at the Fairmont Montreux Palace, away from the Gstaad restaurant.

The food

The menu page explains the approach: each dish represents one of the many regions of India and is lifted by the restaurant's own spice blends, prepared according to old customs and traditions from the north or the south. The page also points to a plant-based menu of vegetarian and vegan dishes. A full menu is available as a PDF.

The signature dishes shown give an idea of the style:

  • Methi Palak Paneer: paneer cooked with spinach, herbs, spices and dried fenugreek (vegetarian)
  • Dal Tadka: red lentils with dried red chili, cumin, curry leaves and fresh coriander (marked vegan and gluten-free)
  • Punjabi Chole: chickpeas cooked Indian-style with caraway, dried mango and spices (marked vegan and gluten-free)
  • Chicken butter masala: chicken tikka finished in a tomato, butter and cream sauce with dried fenugreek (marked gluten-free)
  • Kerala shrimp curry: giant prawns in a silky coconut milk sauce (marked gluten-free)
  • Lamb Rogan Josh: Kashmiri lamb curry with dried ginger and fennel (marked gluten-free)

Under the heading "Des allergies ?" the menu page says that on request the restaurant will provide information about the allergens in its dishes, and that the chef will gladly help create a vegan, gluten-free or lactose-free menu. For a wedding with guests on different diets, this is the part to raise early and in detail with the kitchen.

Contact and hours

The catering page has a contact form and an appointment button ("Prendre rendez-vous"), and invites couples to describe their idea straight away or get in touch to discuss details. The contact page gives the address and the phone number +41 33 748 37 14. The restaurant is open Monday to Thursday and Sunday 11:30 to 21:00, and Friday and Saturday 11:30 to 21:30; takeaway and delivery run 11:30 to 21:00. The site also sells gift vouchers.

What the site leaves open

There are no prices for catering, per person or otherwise, and no sample wedding menu beyond the restaurant dishes. The site does not say what comes with the catering beyond the food: whether service staff, tableware, tables and linen are supplied, or whether the couple has to hire them. It gives no minimum guest count, no lead time, no deposit or cancellation terms, and no travel charges for venues away from Gstaad. The four-language site is helpful, but it does not say in which languages the team plans and serves on the day, so a couple should confirm that in the first message.

The copy on the catering page is also thin and partly repetitive: every event type carries the same wedding text. Couples should not read the list of event types as a list of distinct packages.

Who it suits

Mango suits couples who want Indian food at their wedding, whether because of family roots or simple preference, and who are marrying in or around Gstaad or at a venue elsewhere in Switzerland that allows outside caterers. The stated capacity of up to 1,000 guests covers even a very large wedding, and the Montreux hotel reference shows it has catered a wedding away from its own restaurant.

The caveats are the absence of prices and of any detail on service staff and equipment, and the need to confirm the working language. Couples expecting a classic Swiss or French wedding menu should look at it as a specialist Indian caterer, not an all-round one.
