Nuri Gastro AG

Tap a star to rate

Nuri Gastro AG is a Bern catering company run by its founder, Aline Born, and it caters private celebrations and company events in Bern and the surrounding area. Weddings appear on its catering page in the form that matters most: 2 of the 4 client quotes on that page come from wedding guests or hosts, one about a wedding apéro and one about a wedding dessert. The kitchen has a particular strength in meatless cooking, which the founder describes as her passion.

The catering page opens with the promise of "massgeschneiderte kulinarische Erlebnisse" (tailor-made culinary experiences) made with first-class, natural and regional ingredients, and says the team is glad to take vegetarian and vegan wishes and food intolerances into account, "denn damit kennen wir uns bestens aus" (because we know this field very well).

The wedding offer

Under private events, the page lists the formats Nuri cooks: a festive brunch, a stylish apéro, a rich Apéro Riche (a standing apéro substantial enough to replace a meal) or an individual multi-course menu. It says a couple can celebrate at home, in a rented location or outdoors, and that Nuri brings the food to them. That makes it a caterer for a couple who has already found a venue without its own kitchen, or a garden, or a hall, rather than a venue with a restaurant.

The page's FAQ spells out what can come with the food. On request, Nuri provides crockery, cutlery, glasses, tablecloths, standing tables and other equipment or decorations. For a wedding in a bare hall, that saves booking a separate rental company.

The wedding quotes on the page give an idea of the tone. Nicolas Bachmann writes about the apéro catering at his wedding: "Die Liebe zum Detail war ersichtlich und zu schmecken" (the attention to detail could be seen and tasted), and says the team responded to the couple's needs. Ursula B. writes that the dessert was the finishing touch at a wedding and that nothing was "0815", the Swiss German shorthand for ordinary.

How the price is built

Most caterers leave pricing entirely to the quote. Nuri's FAQ at least explains how a price is made up: the food, the drinks (usually charged by consumption), transport, the service and kitchen team on site, and any rental material such as crockery, glasses or furniture. There are no per-person figures on the page, but a couple knows from the start which lines will appear on the quote.

Children have their own rule, which is useful for a family wedding. Children up to 1 year eat free, children aged 2 to 4 pay 30 % of the price, children aged 5 to 11 pay 50 %, and from 12 the full price applies. Depending on the offer, the page says, there are also child-friendly menu options.

The final guest count is normally needed no later than 7 days before the event, and that figure is also the basis for the bill. Payment is by invoice after the event.

The kitchen and the founder

The about page describes Aline Born as a diplomierte Hôtelière-Restauratrice HF (a qualification from a Swiss hospitality college) and a trained cook. It says she refined her skills working with leading chefs, naming Andreas Caminada, Yotam Ottolenghi (GB), Tanja Grandits, Urs Messerli and Domingo S. Domingo, and that she was operations manager of the Mille Privé. Further training covers barista work with Blaser Kaffee in Bern, cheese affinage with Christoph Bruni, and raw vegan cooking with Plantlab by Matthew Kenney in the USA. She calls herself a "Flexitarierin", a flexitarian, and the page says her passion is creative meatless dishes.

The company history on the same page is short and dated: catering for events of up to 50 people in 2015, its own products developed, made and sold from 2016, vegan cooking classes in 2017, and the founding of Nuri Gastro AG in 2020. The business also sells its own products through an online shop and at several points of sale, and the team page invites people to meet them at the Bärner Märit, a Bern market.

The team page lists the core team: Aline Born as owner, Laurent Born for marketing and administration, Heidi Eichenberger, Luana Lyner, Gioia Silvy Colacicco and Angelina Graf in catering, Jana Wisler in catering and administration, Klara Bandi in production, Märit Hermann Schüpbach in logistics, and Karin Woodtli. The about page lists recipe and portrait features in the Insel Gruppe magazine and a catering review on the Bärner Meitschi blog. The catering page speaks of more than 150 satisfied customers.

Booking from abroad

The inquiry is a form on the catering page, and it leads to a non-binding offer. The page says the team usually replies within 24 hours, unless it is in the middle of a series of events, when it can take longer. The address is Kirchbühlweg 37, CH-3007 Bern, the phone number +41 31 533 11 48 and the email info@nurifood.ch.

What the site does not settle:

  • Language. The website is in German only and does not say whether the team works in English. Ask in the inquiry.
  • Prices. The FAQ explains the parts of a price but publishes no per-person figures.
  • Guest numbers. The history mentions events of up to 50 people in 2015; the site states no current maximum or minimum.
  • Area. The page names the city of Bern and its surroundings, without a radius or a list of towns. A couple marrying further out should ask whether Nuri travels there.
  • Drinks. Drinks are charged by consumption, but the page does not say which drinks Nuri supplies or whether a couple may bring their own wine.

Who it suits

Nuri suits couples in and around Bern who want food with a chef's hand behind it and who have vegetarian, vegan or intolerant guests to feed, since the page presents that as the kitchen's specialty rather than an extra. It also suits a wedding built around an apéro or an Apéro Riche instead of a seated dinner, and families with many children, who benefit from the published child rates.

The limits are clear from the site: no published prices, no English, and an undefined service area outside Bern. A couple who wants everything settled online before making contact will find the FAQ helpful but not sufficient, and the quote remains the real starting point.
