Schlosserei by Aaria

Tap a star to rate

Schlosserei by Aaria is a restaurant, bar and rooftop terrace at Schützenmattweg 14 in Olten, in a building that was a locksmith's workshop from 1947, and it offers weddings that move through the whole house in one evening. It suits couples who want an urban, restaurant-style wedding with a small outdoor ceremony, drinks on a roof and a late party in the bar.

A workshop turned into a "Genussfabrik"

The "Über uns" page tells the building's story briefly. From 1947 the former Schlosserei was a place of hammering, welding and tinkering. In 2012 it was reopened by Nicolas Castillo as a "Genussfabrik" (a factory of good things to eat and drink), and since May 2022 it has belonged to Peyer GmbH, which the page says runs four restaurants, a bar and Aaria-Catering. The house describes its location as in the heart of the town, in the Schützenmatte between the Badi (the public pool) and the Dünnern river. It calls the Schlosserei a place with history, one the team says it is now carrying on in a modern way, in the restaurant, at the bar and on the roof terrace. The site's menu also links to a page called Aaria Home, a news page and a seasonal "Winterzauber" (winter magic) page, so the house runs a program through the year rather than only in summer.

The page names the two people who run it day to day: Beni Nussbaumer, the host (Gastgeber), and Raluca Roth, the managing director (Geschäftsführerin). Their line on the page is "Wir machen die Schlosserei": they look after guests at the table and advise on events.

How a wedding day runs here

The wedding page presents the Schlosserei as "Ihre exklusive Hochzeitslocation" (your exclusive wedding location) and walks through the day in four steps.

The ceremony in the Gärtli. The day starts in the "charmanten Gärtli", a small garden that the page calls an idyllic spot where the ceremony takes place in a romantic, stylish atmosphere, a setting for sharing the moment with the couple's closest family and friends.

The apéro on the rooftop. After the ceremony, guests go up to the rooftop for an apéro with a view of the Oltner Stadtmauer, the old town wall of Olten, with a glass of sparkling wine or another drink chosen individually. The page frames it as a relaxed pause for the first congratulations.

Dinner in the restaurant. Then comes "ein köstliches, mehrgängiges Menü" (a delicious menu of several courses) in the restaurant. Whether the couple wants a festive or a more relaxed atmosphere, the kitchen designs the menu around their wishes and preferences.

The party in the bar. The evening ends with dancing to a live DJ in the bar, which the page describes as stylishly furnished, "bis weit in die frühen Morgenstunden" (until far into the early hours of the morning).

That sequence is the whole appeal of the place: guests stay in one building all day, but the setting changes three times, from garden to rooftop to dining room and bar.

Opening hours, and what they mean for a wedding

The site publishes the regular hours of the house. The bar and restaurant are open Tuesday and Wednesday from 11:30 to 23:30, Thursday from 11:30 to 00:00, Friday from 11:30 to 03:00 and Saturday from 16:00 to 03:00, and closed on Sunday and Monday. The kitchen serves hot food Tuesday to Friday from 11:30 to 14:00 and 18:00 to 21:30, and on Saturday from 18:00 to 21:30.

The rooftop, as a public bar, opens Thursday from 18:00 to 00:00 and Friday and Saturday from 18:00 to 00:30, "Nur bei schönem Wetter - von Mai - September" (only in good weather, from May to September). Those are the public hours, not wedding rules, but they suggest two questions: whether the rooftop apéro is only offered in the warmer months, and what happens to the apéro if it rains on the day. The late Friday and Saturday closing times do fit the page's promise of a party into the small hours.

The seminar room and catering

The events and catering page describes a seminar room of 75 m², seating up to 70 people in rows, 56 in seminar layout or 50 in a U-shape. It has a coffee machine, Wi-Fi and a balcony, is non-smoking, and public parking is listed with it. The wedding page does not mention the room, and it is the only room in the house with published capacities.

The same page offers catering for events in the Schlosserei or at a place of the couple's choice, and says the team will prepare a quote showing what is possible, or pass the request to the Aaria Catering team. For a couple who has found a different venue, that is a second way to work with the kitchen. The contact page also mentions a Smokers-Lounge.

What the site does not settle

The wedding page gives no prices, no guest numbers for the Gärtli, the rooftop or the restaurant, and no minimum spend. It does not say whether the restaurant closes to the public for a wedding, which matters for a house that is open to regular guests five days a week. It does not describe what kind of ceremony the Gärtli is for or who conducts it. There is no word on rooms for guests, and the only transport information is the address and the public parking listed with the seminar room.

The site is in German only and does not say whether the team works in English. Contact is by phone on 062 212 45 45, through the inquiry form or the table reservation on the contact page. Recent guest reviews are shown from Foratable.

Who it suits

Schlosserei by Aaria suits couples who want a relaxed city wedding in Olten with a small outdoor ceremony, a rooftop apéro with a view of the old town wall, a proper restaurant dinner and a DJ party late into the night, all in one place. It suits less well a couple who needs a large banquet hall, a countryside or castle setting, or an English-speaking planner confirmed in advance. The practical next step is a first email with the date and guest numbers, asking which spaces are private and what happens if the weather turns.
