Malä Face
Tap a star to rate
Malä Face (the site also writes it Mal ä Face) is a children's face painting business based in Affeltrangen in the canton of Thurgau, run by Malä Beier with a small team of painters. The homepage names weddings first in its list of events: "Gerne schminken wir auf Hochzeiten, Firmenfeiern, Tage der offenen Tür und natürlich an Halloween und Fasching" (we are happy to paint at weddings, company parties, open days and of course at Halloween and carnival). For a couple with children on the guest list, that means a painter, or several, at a kids' corner while the adults get on with the reception.
Who Runs It
Malä Beier is the managing director. On the team page she introduces herself as a trained teacher who loves being creative and enjoys being with children, and says that face painting lets her do both. She has been self-employed with the business since 2020, lives with her family in Thurgau, and writes that she keeps up regular further training.
The team page names four more painters. Sarah lives in the Amriswil area and says skin painting fascinated her even as a child. Olivia enjoys working with color and glitter. Inga runs her own face painting business in Germany; she met Malä at a training course and supports her when there is a large booking. Irina describes a passion for graphic work and says face painting fulfills a big dream of hers. The practical point for a wedding is on the price page: for events the number of guests is open and several face painters can be booked ("mehrere Facepainterinnen buchbar").
The homepage opens with the business's own summary of why children like it: "Kinder lieben es, sich in Prinzessinnen, Superhelden oder Tiere zu verwandeln. Wir lieben das Strahlen in ihren Augen, wenn sie in den Spiegel schauen." (Children love turning into princesses, superheroes or animals. We love the glow in their eyes when they look in the mirror.)
Paints and Cleanup
The site says the team paints quickly and professionally ("schnell & professionell") and uses paints it describes as "hautverträgliche Farben auf Wasserbasis" (skin-friendly water-based paints). According to the site, a microfiber cloth and warm water are enough to take the paint off. For parents traveling to a wedding with children, that is a useful detail: the site presents removal as simple, with no special products mentioned. Parents with a child who has sensitive skin should raise it with Malä directly, since the site gives no further detail on ingredients.
The Five Offers and Their Prices
Unusually for a Swiss wedding supplier, Malä Face publishes prices for everything it does. All prices are in Swiss francs and every one of them carries travel expenses on top at CHF 1.50 per kilometer.
Firmen & Events (companies and events). This is the offer that covers a wedding. The site asks for a request for a non-binding quote through the contact form. The number of people is open, several painters can be booked, the booking duration is 3 to 7 hours, and the rate is CHF 130 to 150 per hour.
Kindergeburtstag (children's birthday). A maximum of 8 children, with larger groups on request, about 90 minutes, CHF 159. It is aimed at birthday and theme parties, but it gives a sense of the scale of a shorter booking.
Einzelmaske (single mask). Individual people or groups painted for carnival or Halloween, with a design developed together from the client's wish. A full face costs CHF 99 to 149 and a half face CHF 69 to 99.
Eyecatcher. Eye designs with glitter for adults, which the site pitches for company parties, Christmas dinners, a Polterabend (the party before a wedding) and festivals. Numbers are open, the minimum booking is 3 hours and the rate is CHF 150 per hour. This is the one offer here aimed at adult guests rather than children, and the site names a pre-wedding party in its description.
Glitzertattoos (glitter tattoos). Offered for when it is too hot for face painting or when guests want a keepsake that lasts longer, in the site's words "Ein Andenken, das länger hält" (a keepsake that lasts longer). Numbers are open, several artists can be booked, the minimum is 3 hours and the rate is CHF 130 to 150 per hour.
For a summer wedding in the afternoon heat, the glitter tattoo option is worth a look, since the site itself suggests it for hot days.
References and Press
The references page lists a press item, "Wiler Nachrichten / Interview", and three client statements. Judith Thurnherr of Abraxas Event writes that Malä went down very well with customers at a shopping center, responded to the children's different wishes, pleased young and old, is extremely creative and has a loving way with children. Chantal Lisci of Ärztehaus Schuppis in St. Gallen thanks the team for lovely work and says she is happy to recommend them. Peter Kimpel of Villa Optik Weinfelden describes an Advent Sunday in the shop where Malä Beier delighted children and parents alike, and says the event deserves a repeat. None of the three statements is from a wedding, so the references speak to public and corporate events rather than receptions.
Booking From Abroad
The contact page gives the business name, Malä Beier as the contact person, the address 9556 Affeltrangen TG and the email address malaeface@gmx.ch. No phone number is published. The event offer asks for a request through the contact form, and email works just as well from abroad.
Several things are not on the site. It does not say which languages the team works in, and every page is in German, so a couple whose child guests speak only English, French or another language should ask whether that matters for the painter at their event. It does not publish a lead time, a deposit or cancellation terms. It does not name a service area beyond the homepage title, which reads "Kinderschminken Thurgau u. Ostschweiz" (children's face painting Thurgau and eastern Switzerland). Because travel is charged per kilometer from Affeltrangen, a couple marrying far from Thurgau should ask for the travel charge to be quoted with the hourly rate, and should confirm whether a painter travels that far at all.
Who It Suits
Malä Face fits a wedding in eastern Switzerland with enough children to keep a painter busy for a few hours, and a couple who likes to know the cost before asking: the hourly rate is on the page, and the only variable is the distance. The adult Eyecatcher option also makes it a candidate for a Polterabend or an evening party where grown-up guests want glitter too.
The caveats are the ones above. The booking runs from 3 hours upward, so a very short slot during dinner is not what the event offer is built for. The site is German only and says nothing about English. And for a venue in western or southern Switzerland, the per-kilometer charge from Thurgau makes a local painter the more natural choice. For a reception in Thurgau or elsewhere in eastern Switzerland, with a group of children and a couple who wants a clear price, it is a straightforward booking.
